I wish you had entered our contest a few months ago. We held an Ikaruga contest on Press Pause Radio when we recorded an Ikaruga Games Club episode earlier this year. The rules were, play the first stage on Easy, get the highest score you could, and if you beat the PPR crew, you won some MS points. Unfortunately no one even tried when I set my score. I'll have to sit out next time

Anyways, bare in mind that scoring high on Easy is actually more difficult because of less bullets to eat from return fire. It really makes a big difference. Here's my A rank Easy run of stage 1.

Ikaruga on Easy mode is awesome. Here's a replay of mine from years ago. It shows how to get the maximum chain on chapter 1 (130c). The score is 3,945,620. Note that it's one chain more than is shown in the official superplay DVD.

3,989,890 with a 130 chain on stage 1 with the second nearly 100k below at 128 chains, and the best full run on Easy is at 30.3m (Normal seems to be a lot more popular though with 21 people breaking 30m on a full run and a best of 34.5m).

Do you know how accurate the XBLA version is by the way? I've heard that some waves are wrong and that the missile mechanics may behave weirdly at times, but I'm obviously not an Ikaruga expert so

Haven't played the XBLA version, but from what I've read the worst problem is that the options spin the other way around during the stage 3 midboss fight.

Honestly things don't pick up till stage 3 or so in this game so stage 1 and 2 are only there for the sake of having the full run on YT.

EDIT: I got the 1-ALL and an inp file to go along with it. Look out for it in the morning when I will make a new post for the vid and the inp file. When I wake up and do annotations after it is uploaded, I will explain in the video what drove me to insane lengths to get the 1-ALL for this game in the first place.

Yeah, that Zetsu video is great. It's too bad that it seems like nobody is actually playing the game though. I watched the top 2 replays last night (1.5b, 1.2b) and those are pretty much the only videos I'd consider "high level". I feel like a 600-700m clear would be an average score for a player who knows what they're doing, but there aren't many on the leaderboards. It's a shame, because the game is superb.

I'm looking forward to seeing the ludicrous scores on the superplay DVD.

edit: Well, it looks like chrono's Zetsu score on the DVD is going to be over 2 billion. Godlike.
