Cave is in the business of making money, not worrying with people who spent hundreds or thousands of dollars worth of old shit on YAJ. There is no need for this list. Simply assume that anything not cross licensed to hell will get reprinted.Skykid wrote:It's a humorous stab at Cave's ethics, not a repro hate campaign. Seriously, if you own some uber rare Cave poster that doesn't somehow involve a licensing dispute then you can simply go ahead and assume it will be reprinted. It's already worth less than otherwise, if that's the issue.

Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

Re: Cave Reprint List
That's right, and yet it still fetches quite a bit reprinted as it was only reprinted once (max twice) that I can remember. I had a user pull the trigger on a set for 8,000 yen. Basically, the prices/scarcity thing doesn't really matter. I've found that most masturi items (not just art & posters) get reprinted to a level that may not guarantee they're available on the used market all that often, but enough people bought them to where they gain very little value -- probably lose value. They don't include anything else. For instance, Ketsui has 2 additional instruction sheets in blue and yellow which aren't included with a reprint set.

He's right.Skykid wrote:Help.
The only use for this list is collectors hoarding non-reprinted art.
Just another way to fuck up the hobby for the average guy who wants a poster.
lol, art.
Re: Cave Reprint List
Also, this stuff was meant to be displayed in an arcade to promote a game. To make money.
Them reprinting the artwork is so people like us, some who don't even own a cab, can get whatever artwork they want. Also, to make money.

I really think a buyer has to approach it like everythiing will be reprinted. Now, if someone wants the original, fine. But honestly i dont see the difference. Nobody.
The fact is, nobody should care.
Its pathetic that people will pay over $400 for a poster that was supposed to be taped to a window to let people know the game was there.
Sure, its their money, blah blah... but this isn't original artwork.

On CAVE-STG there's a complete list of kits and what they contain , box versions included .
I like to have original instructions or the kit if possible but don't care if it's reprinted or not and if the kit is missing flyers , suction cups , stickers or whatever that's all fine .
Posters I want I print myself but I like the irony of an original Poster now being more expensive that the game it promotes

Re: Cave Reprint List
I always wonder where the official CAVE Toresetsu stands in this , why do they even make these ?
Is it for Arcade operators to use them as a Marquee replacement but why not reprint the complete art set .
I am glad they make them though especially now they recently made ones for DonPachi , DoDonpachi and Dangun Feveron , from these original art is hard to come by and very expensive , collectors seem to ignore them ( for the moment anyway
) .

Aren't you the self-appointed Cave PCB valuation barometer doing a daily routine of push-ups and sparring in the Trading Station gymnasium (73%/916 posts worth?)
Yet you're all over a simple reference thread because, what? It contains information that would indicate the likelihood of finding an Espgaluda artset over a Donpachi one, or a Ketsui poster over a DFK 1.5?
I don't get it hombre. There's no ulterior motive here, someone new to kit building wanted to know what was what, and I too was curious to get it all straight. I abandoned any hints at valuation because it's too broad, so now it's just a regular list - how is that going to have a negative impact at all?

What difference does it make if it's a reprint? It's the same shit from the same company. Why would the first print be worth more if they are identical?

Re: Cave Reprint List
Ask the comic collectors. I don't think the issue here is whether which print is more valuable... it's whether the demand for the original has dropped b/c there is a reprint. Think of buying a PCB days before the console port is announced.yosai wrote:What difference does it make if it's a reprint? It's the same shit from the same company. Re: Cave Reprint List
Loads of us find this thread really useful, so it absolutely has a purpose and a use.
If you think art collecting and interest in the way reprints effect pricesis a load of rubbish, fair enough. I love collecting art and getting boxes for my PCBs, but I appreciate it's slightly ridiculous.
Still, it seems slightly daft to clutter a well-intended thread (that many of us will be able to use again and again as a resource) with antagonistic berating of those that the thread was conceived for.
If you feel there's a worthy discussion about whether art collecting has a detrimental effect on those who just want to play games, that's interesting enough for a very good thread, but I'm not sure this is the place. And if here is the place, I'd love to see a little less aggression. We can all argue and keep it friendly, funny and informed.
EDIT: Great work on the boxes stuff Skykid. I started a Cave boxes thread that I admit I let loose steam; in case there's anything of use to be gleaned from it, it is here.

Re: Cave Reprint List
DDP and Esprade boxes are identical. Donpachi is unconfirmed.
Mushihimesama had the first type box.
DFK 1.5 was second type. Also had 3 signed versions.
MFBL AV was an Annex.

As for Mushi, I belive it's a new style box, not an old - at least that's what I've been led to believe over the years. Even Cave-STG's kit list has it as a newie.
I'll update with the other info.

Should't " SH3 Old Style (compact Cave logo lettering) " read " PGM Old style " ?
Re: Cave Reprint List
It also woldn't have been colored with your supposedly humorous stab at whether or not the reprints are "ethical". You make it clear that you think this is a poke in the rear from Cave, yet somehow discussion regarding this aspect of your post is off limits. Honestly that is the only part i found interesting, so that's what I replied about.Skykid wrote:If someone had posted this list at Cave-STG no-one would have batted an eyelid.
I'm not sure how Spadgy can't see this either. If you wanted the information to be treated as a sterile reference then you should have presented it that way from the beginning. Now the can of worms is open.
Anyways I just view it as a butthurt thread for people who thought arcade gear was a solid investment.
