Garukilla (New game from Yotsubane)

A horizontal shooter which, to be honest, doesn't look like a horizontal shooter at all.

Demo will be released at Comiket 80.

I am so, so glad that Yotsubane is still alive. I had honestly assumed that he was dead, as he had dropped off the face of the internet around the time the tsunami hit Japan. This game's announcement is welcome news that proves he is alive and well. Praise the Lord.

Screenshots look a little wonky, but you can't really tell how a game looks anyway until you see it in motion. I've got faith in the guy =D.

I just shot coffee all over my keyboard, and I wasn't even drinking coffee.

That said, Yotsu making a twin-stick shmup? Odd.

Lol, the Clover is killing giant Garudas. Garudae? Garudi?

Whatever, it looks great. I'll wait for the demo to come out. Shooting game will never die. 8)

Weird. Hope for the best. I loved CC. I wish he programmed the patterns and gameplay for DDP DFK. Yeah, I said it.

I can't tell much from the blog, but with the maker of CC I think it's a give that it will kick ass.

Well well this looks interesting. Judging by the second screenshot, and the fact that it's twin stick, it looks to be multi-directional as opposed to strictly isometric.

I loved CC but I'm afraid I think my computer will need upgrading before it will ever run this..

If it's multi-direction I wonder if there'll be some Thunder Force II influences in this. That could actually work very well if the weapon system was a bit more functional and less strict like it was originally.

Thats what I was originally thinking, Thunder Force II. Now looking at it again maybe I'm not so sure about the multi directional thing. It could just be forced directional changes at certain points in-level.

I dunno dude. It's weird that it's twin stick....

Its good to know he wasnt just some one hit wonder, If ild of seen pics like that from any other devoloper ild of dismissed it as probable rubbish, but coming from Yotsubane im looking forward to seeing how it'll turn out.

EDIT: looking at those two pics it seems like it'll be similar to Ether Vapor not a multi directional. Look at the player ship, in the first pic its facing out of the screen, while in the 2nd the ship is shooting into the screen

@stryc9 Gah you just bet me :)

OK so most of us are probably a bit funny about twinsticks, but consider this: coming from Yotsubane it will probably be the best twin stick game ever made so there is that.

He calls it a side-scrolling shooting game in the diary post so it's probably going to be more like your standard horizontal shmup rather than something like Thunderforce II. Also, with this being a doujin shmup, it would really surprise me if it did not fit standard doujin keyboard controls, so I think twin-sticks is very unlikely (I also can't see where in the diary it says that it will be twin-stick). The second screenshot shows enemies coming from both the right and left sides of the screen, giving me the impression that the game will be more like Deathsmiles, except that you will be able to angle your ship and fire in eight directions.

If we get lucky maybe Yotsuba will make the prototype available for download, or the C80 version will leak its way online.

My guess is it will be multidirectional in same way as Exception. And not 3D unless you consider prerendered sprites 3D.

Those bats(?) are making me wonder what type of enemies this game will be incorporated into it.

Bumping this topic because I found gameplay videos:

Doesn't look like it's isometric like those two early screenshots seemed to illustrate but it does look pretty cool. It uses a lifebar, but it seems like a good idea once you see three big dragons on screen at once.

The way the ship is angled looks more like Metal Black's bonus mode, but the positioning and shooting of the enemies are quite obviously the two-way hori.

Looks very much like an engine test of sorts in terms of enemy placement and such, hopefully it'll improve by a long shot as development on it progresses.

Looks okay so far. Hopefully a lot more work goes into enemy and level design.

I dunno what's up with this forum and twin-stick shooters. Robotron 2084, Geometry Wars, and Score Rush are all very fun games.

Odds are, he was affected by it and was piecing his life back together.

This obviously isn't going to be a full-fledged Cave-level shmup like Crimzon Clover, but it still seems very enjoyable. The aiming clearly isn't twin-stick; it's like that of Forgotten Worlds. Looking forward to the full version, which I hope has a somewhat greater variety of enemies and environments.

I played CC:World Ignition recently (I know, I'm late!) & I love it so much..

The music is great, the controls are tight, the mechanics are very enjoyable, the graphics is good..
Everything I want in a bullet hell!

& I found out about this Garukilla, but can't find any updates for it since 2011.. What's up with that?

Maybe he was busy working on the Steam version, that still gets updated? It's a possibility.

I wish this had made it to the 360.

I imagine he got sidetracked by CC for Nessica. I've been wondering if Garu will resurface now that WI is behind him.
