Gunbird 2

Difficulty 5, extend at 600K (note if you've changed it). Secret character Aine is allowed, bonus character Morrigan is allowed (Dreamcast only). For the moment, scores are capped at 300,000/1-4 with 20 places per category. Ugh, no idea what to do about port differences, I don't think Mushi and Ketsui had anything quite like this.

AINE (MAME/PCB): Go into test mode. Select "Maintenance Code". Enter 51024, after which the message "Sit an AINE Flag2" should appear. Return to normal gameplay (take note that during the bootup process, the line "AINE OK!" is seen). On the player select screen, hold down while on the random select box and Aine's portrait should appear, press a button to select him.

Please post scores in this format:

Code: Select all

DETAILS is for which console or emulator, which region release, etc; again, there's only one board, but there is that region option.

Sweet, some character specific rankings. But don't you want to include an overall ranking, too? Characters seem quite balanced here, not like in Strikers 1999 where X-36 rules the boards anyway.

My best Alucard score is this one though:
Battletoad - 718,300 - 1-6 - Alucard - DC

I don't know why so few people play him. Apparently almost nobody. He has weaknesses, but I think the best charge shot / melee attack combination of all.

I've thought about that a million times but every time I come to the conclusion that it's completely unnecessary. I mean, if a guy really wants to sit down and compare, he can go right ahead and do it, you know? Just seems like a waste of space/duplication/etc.

Yeah, I like Alucard, and if I ever play this again I'd try to use him/Marion/Tavia. Anyway, could you tell me about Aine and the Dreamcast/PS2 versions of this game (i.e. is he even in it at all)?

It is probably enough this way yeah. I'd include an overall ranking, but it's not totally necessary.

Aine is available in the Dreamcast version, PS2 I don't know. His multiplayer endings are censored in the PAL DC version.

Coin Chain
20 - Battletoad

Yeah just played a bit for fun and got this. Somehow I can only chain with the fast characters (Tavia, Morrigan) and even then only sometimes when I manage to get into the rhythm.

Yeah, I suck. Good scores will probably take me a bit. Might switch to Alucard, but then again Tavia's shot is god tier.

2-6 gives me the runs.

I'm not doing the STGT this year, so figures it'll probably finally get chosen. Ah well...

btw, I'm the J.A player already listed, so please remove that one.

Thanks.

This particular run ended at the last boss, but I'm not sure if the ALL will ever come, to be honest. The random nature of the suicide bullets can really ruin a good run, plus recovering from a death in the loop can be impossible in certain areas due to the shot power and charge meter getting screwed up. My "path" through the loop is real exact, if I get thrown off I'm fucked. I've no-missed to the 2-6 mid-boss and still haven't beaten it.

Also would help if I could chain worth a damn. :/

NTSC-J: why don't you try to improve your path? In my experience, it is way too hard to 1-CC a game if you rely on flawlessly performing a very tight route. Especially when dealing with very difficult titles, the 1-CC should come when, even if you perform at 90% of the predicted best, this will still suffice. I know that it's easier said than done but, say, if you can add some "death recovery" routes, it would be helpful, I think.

Well, my path does leave some room for error (1 or 2 deaths is ok), its just that with the loop, one small error quickly snowballs and its all over. If I miss-use a charge shot, I wont have enough at the next section so I`ll have to bomb, then I`ll be missing a bomb for another thing and I`ll die, etc.

1:44-1:55 of this video is how I feel when I play this game.

NTSC-J - 2,044,000 - ALL - Tavia - MAME

Sweet victory.

A screenshot and replay will come shortly. Kind of a messy run, with poor coin chaining and a twitchy bomb finger. The last boss fight with no bombs or lives to spare was a tense moment, but I somehow survived.

Fuck yea!

Well done, now you can really brag with sweet abandon whenever you talk about 1-CCs. On top of that, with Tavia. That's really one hell of a feat! :D

Thanks, guys.

The replay is kind of embarassing (considering stuff like the GODHAND Aine video), but I`ll still share.

Unfortunately, it`ll have to wait a few days. I`m currently on my summer break and staying with my girlfriend and she doesnt have the internet, but she`ll be getting it on Tuesday so hopefully I can post it then.

This game was one of the first shooters I ever played, so I felt like I had to beat it no matter what. The other was DoDonPachi, so maybe I`ll work on that next.

Congrats for your amazing achievement :) Mandatory feeble score posting to add some content:

Aliquantic - 707,600 - 1-6 - Tavia - MAME

Playing this game on a big TV that renders properly helps a LOT, both my laptop screens are "choppy" with fast bullets like that :(

Good score, Aliquantic, and thanks for the congrats again, all of you.

Now, finally:

Image

I've uploaded the replay via mediafire here. I used MAME32 Plus! 0.103. Please let me know if it doesn't work.

Some notes on my replay:

- First death on 2-5 in a spot where I often bite it. Died with 4 bombs in stock, got one back upon respawning, but then had to use it in order to gather my power-ups.
- 2-3 was a fuck up at the end, accidentally triggered two bombs in a row then flubbed up the boss but recovered. Very sloppy, but every other boss fight went real well, especially 2-4 through 2-7, which is cool.
- Max coin chain of 8. Holler.
