A: Very interesting question. A person born deaf can learn a language regardless (it doesn't have to be spoken for them to think in it), although their condition will severely impede the development of cognitive skills. On the other hand, deafness itself, depending on its cause, can be partly mitigated by functional organ substitution: other organs, such as skin, can be used to "hear" sounds if they are broken down into simplier, easier to differentiate (think low bit depth and sampling frequency) vibrations or other kind of signals, and transmitted by means of an external device to a sensitive organ with adequately functioning corresponding part of the brain core. After some time (several weeks to several months of training) the brain will expand the mapping of the organ used as a substitute and will assign a new function to it, thereby letting a person "hear", albeit poorly, with a patch of skin, or tongue, or eyes — what have you. Experiments have been conducted that made genuinely blind people see and recognize faces of people they had never seen.

Neuroplasticity is an awesome subject btw, I suggest reading up on it.

Because you can also have a single glass, for a single eye. It's called a monocle, and it's merely 100% out of fashion, not unserviceable like an half bra.

A: Depends on the reason said furry likes it. A Furry might like the show itself but not as part of said fetish. or they might like it because of the fetish. or it might be a mix of both. This is just outside analysis since i'm no furry though.
I admire the tacit dismissal of the argument that ducks might have feathers and not fur. Now I wonder (out of turn) if a furry can be into largemouth bass or other fish. Maybe that would be one step too far. :)

I can't say I've intentionally done so, but the closest I've come is having to wear a medical eyepatch for a week or two to allow damage to my eye to heal. I still had a working eye, but it wasn't fun at all - and probably would have been pretty debilitating if I had been old enough at the time to do things like drive or operate machinery. Those are always fun things to try when temporarily and suddenly without depth perception.

that part depends on if you want to think of "furry" as a blanket term for people who like anthropomorphic animals in drawn/suit form or if it's restricted to things with fur (i've known people who use one or the other definition). which is something that i did not think about when typing the reply. a stupid oversight yes but an oversight.

jonny 5's question shall remain unanswered, while the next person has two questions to answer.

Q. What do you think would happen if 20 narcissists were brought into the same room? More specifically, would they get along, or would they be in disgust with one another? It's paradoxical, because no one is more compatible than like-minded people. But at the same time, each one of them thinks that they're the best thing to grace this earth, and everyone else is of little importance to them. This is an open-ended question with no correct answer, but I'd like to see some thought put into it, instead of a simple "they would get along."

I often go swimming to a lake here in Vienna where it is common to be naked. The area is also known in the gay scene as a sex meeting point at night. But during the day lots of families go there, it's a very nice place.
One day I stumbled accross two gay men who where blowing each others dick there. The gross thing was that it was 2pm in the afternoon.
I don't have any prejudices and I'm not homophobic at all but to do something like this during the day at a place where young kids could see you is just totally unacceptable. I was happy I didn't have my son with me this day.

The question from Siren still stands.

A:
I think this could vary. I find that like-minded people at times don't always get along so that being considered 20 narcissits would probably take one look at eachother and either
A) sit there and wait for another person to speak, then speak their mind on whatever it was they said because it's tactically safe while still stating yourself as the best thing to grace this earth
or
B) walk the fuck back out of the room again, because their time would be "better spent" doing other things than sitting around with other people who aren't really the best thing to grace this earth (naturally this position would be taken by themselves)

Just my experience, but one of my worst enemies at one point had a very similar way of thinking to me....and then when she went into a different social group that manifested into one of the most evil and arrogant minds I've ever come across.

Q: Speaking of evil bitches, had any worst enemies during your school years? Surely there must be a good story behind this so do elaborate if possible (though naturally calling names and revealing stuff too personal is not my intention and a stupid idea disclaimer blahblahyaddayaddaetc).

A: I was nerd enough to have moderate problems, but the "worst enemies" were public enemies who typically directed their aggression against teachers or caused general trouble. Maybe being big and irritable helped...

A: Probably not really the answer you're looking for, but near the end of high school (11 years ago, apocinhyh;awef) I got myself involved in the digital fansubbing of anime while it was still in its infancy. I had this naive idea that if I got involved early, I could spread the idea that anime wasn't supposed to be free entertainment and people had to actually put money into the industry or it would eventually collapse on itself. You can kind of see where that went...

A: A fork.

Q: I really liked Ruldra's question at the top of this page, but here's a similar one: If dogs don't understand English (aside from "stand", "sit", etc.), and thinking runs on language for fuel, than do you think they assign certain murmurs and barks with specific meanings and concepts? Perhaps, their own "language" is precisely what we as humans can only understand in a vague sense? ("Oh, he's barking because he's probably hungry," etc.)

Some dogs are intelligent enough to distinguish between several spoken words/commands if trained properly.

If a dog's hungry enough, it'll try to eat dirt to ease the hunger pangs if no food source is around. The first queensland heeler that I owned loved to eat crickets and grasshoppers as snacks. He'd run after them and chomp on them with a quick snap of his jaws. Of course, insects do provide a good source of protein if you're out there in the wilds & don't have anything on you to eat for survival purposes.

If you ever encounter a bear in the wilds and it comes charging after you, what should you do? If you can try to punch it directly in the nose, it'll run off mighty quick as a bear's nose is quite sensitive indeed. (I've read some true survival stories of some folks whom have gotten attacked by a bear somehow hit/punch the bear's nose and it ran off for good despite getting a really good mauling. It's the type of situation you don't want to find yourself in.)

Here's another interesting question regarding travelling at the speed of light or even faster than it: If the Millennium Falcon can go point 5 past the speed of light, how fast is it really going?

That'd be quite a modified hyperdrive fitted inside the ol' Falcon to achieve those speeds. Not to mention it being prone to failing at the worst inopportune times when it's most needed to get the helluva out of there. Now, where's that spanner at?

A: I'd imagine eating some type of dish that requires the usage of a spork would be most beneficial (i.e. some type bean dish with meat in it). I've seen your cheap basic 'n' no-frills sporks and some of the more elaborate sporks with a handy serrated knife edge on the opposite end of the handle for cutting purposes) on the market. Saw a one-panel comic strip once parodying the spork with the new "fnive" (a combination of fork & knife both on the same end) that didn't fare too well on the market. What will they think of next to compliment the spork eating utensil?

Q: How old are the Senator Palpatine/Emperor Palpatine & Padme characters in Episode 1, Episode 2, Episode 3 (and in Episode 6, what's the Emperor's age) of the Star Wars films?

Again, George Lucas really doesn't mention the age of them both in the SW films. I understand that Darth Vader/Anakin Skywalker was 46 years old in the events that take in ROTJ Episode 6 and his twin children, Luke & Leia, were the same age of 23. Anakin was 23 when his kids were born & during the process of becoming the Vader entity during the RFTS Episode 3 flick. Anakin was age 9 in TPM Episode 1 when he meets his future wife.

Actually, he asks about two characters, then rambles on the ages of three others.
PC Engine Fan X! wrote:Q: How old are the Senator Palpatine/Emperor Palpatine & Padme characters in Episode 1, Episode 2, Episode 3 (and in Episode 6, what's the Emperor's age) of the Star Wars films?
Random Googling tells me Padme was 14 as of Episode 1 (5 years older than Anakin) and Palpatine was 50. You should be able to extrapolate the ages from there - episode 2 takes place 10 years after episode 1, episode 3 takes place 3 years after episode 2, and episode 4 is some 20 years after episode 3.

Now I can go back to pretending those movies never existed... (insert self-hypnotic suggestion here)

A: I'd have to say that it'd be the Genesis Lightning Force release. Of course, it still has the incorrect spelling of "Lightening" lingering around...gives it a bit of character. I like it since it gives the fourth installment more of an arcade PCB experience type of gameplay (despite a bit of slowdown during certain stages but it doesn't detract from the overall cool game experience that is TF 4).

Would've been ace of Techno Soft if they had released a TF-4 "Arcade Version" PCB variant running at a consistant arcade-spec 60fps framerate + simultaneous 2-player option from the get-go + some new mid-stage/end-stage bosses to take down + some other cool upgrades to spice things up.

Thanks, StarCreator, for the answers regarding the age of both those SW characters. It's good to know.

Mega Turrican, it has the greatest soundtrack of any Mega Drive game, the gameplay is super-fluid, the levels are very straightforward if you want to rush through them but also have a lot of secrets to discover, the graphics are very good and it's the best Turrican!

In 20 years from now which retro games will you play more often: SNES / Mega Drive era or PS3 / XBox 360 era?

edit:
new question while I was typing, it's hard to choose one but I'd say Dracula X because it's the best of the classic Castlevania games.

A: SNES/MD. Why? B/c it's more of what I play now (although I usually play arcade games), has more nostalgia, and in general, I think the games are just better. You came blame lack of innovation for this gen, but I think there are lots of factors. Games aren't as "new" as they used to be, are more mainstream, I'm older, etc. etc.

Q: What's your favorite arcade game that you played mainly (at least originally) in the arcade? Not a port or super gun. Extra credit if you can give an accurate monetary figure of how much money you poured into it.

mvc3 casuals at the local barcade. apparently this dude is the best or some shit, i caught 2 of his characters at the same time, took them both out and then taunted with haggar as lv3 x-factor sentinal was entering. i did this to intentionally give him haggar for free, which he took. my chunli came in and i hit him with my taunt a couple of times before murdering him. i stood up before the match was over since i knew the super would kill him. shook his hand sarcastically and said "gg bro, you're really good." never seen someone so pissed over a game in person. i thought he was gonna slit my throat in the parking lot. he stared at me for hours and tried to start shit.

hilarious
