STGT '11 Week 3 - 1944 Discussion

Is this soundtrack Cruis'n'Usa cheesy or what? Looks like it could be a decent game. Enjoy, folks, as STGT 2011 continues!

This game sucks. I can't flip my TV like I do for every single hori

jokes aside, seems decent and it has a banging soundtrack for long hairs

definitely the best one so far

How do you beat the second boss without it timing out? I have to bomb to do so, but obviously bombing in stage 2 is bad.

Just blow through it with a charge shot. A well-placed shot can get him in one usage.

That was here: http://shmups.system11.org/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=37812

The griping and moaning may be the best part of STGT, but it's the scores that are the main event

I wish we were playing 19XX instead, since I actually have it. But this seems fun too and I actually have time this week, so I think it should be fun. Let's all become Loop Masters.
Why is it called the Vic Viper/Warp Rattler? Because the Options trail behind it in a serpent-like fashion, and the iconic front fins are designed to invoke the image of a snake's fangs.

Oh man, this is badass so far. :D Pity I won't have much time to play this week, this seems like a lot of fun. I especially like the dramatic stage entrances like IRON BEAST WARCRY.

Games getting worse and worse.
Waiting for next week. :f

edit:
on a side note: I find it ridiculous that autofire is allowed on games that don't support it, but that's just me I guess.

This is probably the game I am most tepid about so far this tournament, but that's only because Gokuyjou Parodius and Daioh are such awesome games. I'm enjoying the hour or so I've shoved into 1944 so far, and once I get more comfortable with the bosses, I'm sure I'll like it even more.

Seriously, I know moaning is a big part of STGT, but I'm starting to think a lot of people who post here don't actually like shooting games...

Some people only like to talk about them, not actually play them. ;)

I finally dig my old CRT monitor out so I can play tate and the game turns out to be a vertizontal

Anyway im really enjoying this game, normally I totally suck at the 1941 series but this seems a tad easier although ive no idea how hard the later stages are as the stage 5 boss seems to be a jump up in difficulty.

The short stages give it a Raiden Fighters vibe, I missed week 1 and could only play Daiho for a couple of hours at the weekend (If ild put in a full week i might have been able to 1Loop it) Im certanly gonna try to play this game every day and see how far it get.

I think too many ppl are spoiled by Cave / Touhou and dont like stepping out of their comfort zone and seriously try out something new. Sure many of these old games can have game mechanics like snipers and checkpoints which are frowned upon by many gamers but despite their quirks there is fun to be had once we stop comparing them to our favorites and just see them for their own merits.

I don't like shooting games I'm just hoping some girl with oversized glasses and an ironic haircut will find out I play them one day and think I'm cool(er).

I really hope we get something with a deeper scoring system in the next two weeks, that way I can delude myself into thinking I can come up with some clever scoring trick and place a bit higher, instead of knowing from the outset that my score will suck because I simply can't get far enough.

I'm seriously getting tired of when the downloads doesn't contain all the files. Daioh had me go on a quest to find a file too and now I'm in need of nffux.03 which apparently not even Google can help me find. Only a shitty torrent that doesn't work properly.

(Mod edit - No ROM requests. CPS2 XORs are still considered part of the ROMset.)

why didn't they make the ship shoot bullets that actually destroy enemies instead of just gently tickling them?
