They attended the Tokyo Anime Fair (or whatever it's called), went on anime shopping sprees, visited some animation studios, etc. Some even dressed up cosplay when they went to Akihabara. They were the biggest pack of weeaboo dingbats I've ever seen. They even did some anime karaoke. One dude could actually sing the songs, and he was the only one who seemed to pay attention to the classic shows. But, with everything else on Japanese TV, it was totally contrived and artificial. Later, the people in the video complained that the show made them appear stupid. Well, if some Japanese TV show asked to follow me around with a camera and asked me to do stupid stuff, I would have no part of it.
Mmm, from what I see japanese TV just follows the same trends of the global agenda. You have one dancing/singing/shit contests shows, they exported that damn moving wall show everywhere in the world, talk shows and all that crap. Each fucking country seems to be running the same, consensual media brainwash program...

Anyway, speaking of weeaboos and all, our japanese professor (a 65 year old guy) always asks at some point WHY are we studying nihongo (he kind of never says "japanese", lol). And he wanted the honest answer. We have our fair share of goth girls (with those pin bags you all hate), the anime freak, the manga freak. Then we have the normal people... to some extent. I'm studying it because I already did a translation but using rudimentary knowledge and the english script. That doesn't cut it at all. I'm also working at a publicity agency only to find out half the entrepreneurship people are japanese. So, yeah, what the hell, I might as well learn the language and build the contacts. Classes are proving to be hilariously ridiculous at time.

So, he asks these goth high school kids and they tell him: "Because I love anime of course!"

You can't imagine that moment. It was comedy gold. He took out his glasses, facepalmed, grabbed his head with both hands, almost as if saying "I quit teaching". Then he uttered: "Manga, yes, yes. Anime, no. NO. Anime, NO. J-POP, NO. Anime talks like theatrical works, it's not like real japanese. J-Pop is horrible. Once or twice is fine, but not all the time. Now, have at you!" Then he starts playing old '80s songs and Konnichiwa Akachan. And tango. And he actually sings pretty damn well.

If there is something Japan seems to love from us, that is tango. Guess its inherent melancholy and ultra-frontal style of singing gets to them.

So that's that. Anime is definitely hitting a low point. Well, it's been in pretty bad shape for a while. Manga seems to be doing fine though.

edit: I shouldn't be allowed to write sleep deprived. My apologies.
I'd pick to learn Japanese because it is syllable-intensive, just like Spanish. It is probably easier to speak than, say, English or French. I think the only problem with speaking Japanese would be the speed of the speech pattern is fast. The major problem would be memorising so much kanji in order to be okay at reading it since you can't s-p-e-l-l in Japanese. It must be a nightmare to write it.

hehehe, indeed, we've been told as spanish speakers we have it far easier when it comes to talk in japanese. a, i, u, e o sound exactly the same in both languages. Well, the "u" is a bit lower. But that's why I usually never have trouble with japanese names or titles unless they are god awfully long.

Speaking of writing it being a nightmare, I agree... It's something the weeaboos don't take into account I guess but I've been told some rudimentary, basic kanji is helpful with katakana and hiragana being the absolute must if you need to write down some shit for someone.

This was an attempt to practice some of the very basic kanji. I'm pretty sure I'm not gonna get any better unless I take shodo (which I won't), so I'll be happy to just pass and get a "fine, basic kanji writing is ok" and call it a day.

Guess it's a matter of practice. Doesn't help me to be left handed (or does it?).

edit: and back to why anime sucks nowadays...

... it sucks when all you read in fucking blogs is nuts bloody blabbering about who is the cutest character or when will be the beach episode/maid day/etc. Or, god forbids this damn new trend, when the stupid male leads will end up crossdressing. Bakatest might have most of the fault but, it's gonna get worse than just the "it's a trap!". Gone are the days of writing a decent story I guess?

I think being left-handed is helpful when it comes to writing script from right to left (i.e., Arabic, Persian, Hebrew). It depends with Japanese kanji, some of it is written from left to right, but a lot of it is written from top to bottom and progresses from right to left! Crazy, but cool. Besides, aren't artistic people usually left-handed? (As in, their right brain is on overdrive?)

I'd love to take a calligraphy class (Eastern or Western writing) and just learn how to draw. It's very relaxing and I'm one of those crazies who loves to look at other people's writing styles; this becomes more obvious because I was also into graf writing (graffiti and tagging) when I was a kid - it also explains why I began collecting comic books (subsequently, manga and anime).

On topic:

Speaking of modern anime that blows, I saw Kimikiss priced at $15, which is pretty cheap, but, then, I saw its opening on YouTube and I immediately backed away. Holy f***ing s**t. Even though the designs are different, this looked more like a sequel or a remake of Clannad, Air, Kanon, or any of that visual-novel-game-turned-animu-series garbage. FTS!

For a few dollars more, I ended up getting two seasons of Yu Yu Hakusho and the first box set of Ghost Sweeper Mikami 8)

One of the characters for Totally Spies looked like she was cloned from Mikami 8)

I just read that in traditional Japanese arts, be it kenjutsu or caligraphy, there are no specific techniques for lef-handed adepts being taught. They have to adapt themselves.
