STGT'11 Week 1: Gokujyou Parodius
Re: STGT'11 Week 1: Gokujyou Parodius
SAS - 567,700 - 4 - Little blue dudes on paperplane (semi-automatic) - MAME
Infinite Flamingoes GOOO!
By the way, do we need to state automatic/semi-automatic/manual styles? Because it seems that on automatic when ship is hit it bursts into 4 bells. No checkpoints whatsoever.

We aren't allowed to use savestates, right?Aliquantic wrote: Savestates also seem to be very problematic.

We can use savestates to practice, just not in the submitted runs.

Let's get rid of a decade long misspelling and instead of Gokujyou, we say Gokujou from now on.
It's that awesome.

Re: STGT'11 Week 1: Gokujyou Parodius
Is it only spelled like that in MAME, or did the error come from a port or something?Plasmo wrote:Let's get rid of a decade long misspelling and instead of Gokujyou, we say Gokujou from now on.

Thanks a lot, Icarus.
I am not accepting Fantastic Journey scores. It can be a chore to find the roms for gokuparo, but there seem to be profound difference. Saturn is acceptable.
And yes, no team name in the submission. Which also lets free agents submit scores before I get a chance to assign them to teams, which should be later today.

Re: STGT'11 Week 1: Gokujyou Parodius
Gokujou used to be the parent. There's this widespread habit of adding Y's where they don't seem to belong; see also "akumajyo" etc (related: "oh" versus "ou").
I don't see where all the emulation issues are coming from; this is a very simple game to run now. Use 0.99 and keep in mind that this is on konamigx. Don't use Fantastic Journey.
Someone should explain the modes. As it is, I'm just going to use Manual.

It's a romanisation thing. It's not like jyo is wrong, but the y is superfluous and looks stupid.captpain wrote:Is it only spelled like that in MAME, or did the error come from a port or something?Plasmo wrote:Let's get rid of a decade long misspelling and instead of Gokujyou, we say Gokujou from now on.

And like Despatche said, the letter h for an extended syllable, which also looks stupid and can even be confusing at times.

for anyone who is having emulation issues, the game works fine for me using mameplus 106 even on my 1.2Ghz laptop, so give that one a shot

This should be mostly correct; let me know if something's off.Despatche wrote:Someone should explain the modes. As it is, I'm just going to use Manual.
Auto uses one button (shot + missile). You automatically power up and can't activate the currently highlighted power if the game doesn't think it's a good choice (e.g., you can't get five speed ups or use Koitsu's K-Laser). After dying, you revive on the spot and get a few bells. No roulette items.
Semiauto adds a power up button. While you power up automatically, you also have the option of activating the currently highlighted power. Checkpoints yes, roulette items no.
Manual has three buttons (shot, missile, powerup). This is the only mode with a dedicated missile button. Since missile activates a blue or red bell power, you have to pick Manual if you want to save these indefinitely. You have full command over upgrade selection and order but there's a danger of accidentally scrolling from ? to Speed Up. Checkpoints and roulette items.
I know that Auto has gentler rank in Sexy Parodius, but I'm not sure if this is true in Goku.
Most players should probably go with Auto. Manual is worth looking into if you plan to beat several stages without dying (stored red bells can help you survive problematic areas at max rank) or checkpoint milk the Special Stage

The only thing I can say is terrible about the game is that chaining system. Outside of that, what's even wrong with it? But I'm not familiar with the stages past stage 4 yet. I'm going to train during the first part of the week then submit scores closer to the end though. At least stage 3 is easy, that's a surprise for a Moai stage.
Re: STGT'11 Week 1: Gokujyou Parodius
This bell chaining is pretty straightforward. Just grab them.Chaos Phoenixma wrote:Bananamatic wrote:

I'm assuming we're allowed to use different zoom options on PSP? I hope?
