STGT'11 planning thread
Re: STGT'11 planning thread
STGT is run on this forum and registration happens here, but the thread isn't up yet
Live to fly, fly to live, it's all very orthodox
Re: STGT'11 planning thread
As with previous STGTs, you will have an option to sign up without a specified team, and will then be assigned to a separate, 'free agent' team.Psikyo_Ball wrote:I want join in the next STGT, but i havent team.
The tournament will start on July 25th. Such a starting date will make the tourney end several days before a standard school year starts (28th August). I wanted it to start on 18th, but personal reasons would make running the first week really difficult.RNGmaster wrote:So, any hard ideas on when STGT actually starts? I'm kind of scheduling my entire summer around this, so it'd be good to know how much time I have to practice before it starts.
The registrations happen through a forum thread.borislaw wrote:Is STGT '11 formally connected to/associated with the Shmups forum--or is it something that is part of some other host site/web group. I ask because it sounds like good fun and I would definitely like to participate, an basically just wanted to be sure that registration occurs here and not on some other site where it might easily elude me.
Speaking of which, expect the registration thread to go up within 30 minutes or so, after I write the OP. The most important tidbits of information will be in said opening post of the thread.

Damn. Igloo and myself might miss out on the first week.
I'll have my laptop, but I may or may not have access to wifi/roms.

Re: STGT'11 planning thread
Seems very early this year and smack bang in the middle of the summer holiday season which is going to make it difficult for me.

Re: STGT'11 planning thread
Surely it's better to have the tournament during a holiday? Otherwise, you'd be at work and stuff.Tigershark wrote:Seems very early this year and smack bang in the middle of the summer holiday season which is going to make it difficult for me.
Anyway, does anyone know when the sign up thread stops taking submissions? Presumably the day before the tournament starts? Have read through a few times and can't find anything

Re: STGT'11 planning thread
Do I still need to do the weekly scoreboards? I don't mind, but it seemed kind of redundant last year...
Re: STGT'11 planning thread
One question: Don't we get a little hint of what the next game is going to be before it starts? For example, when we did Cyvern, you guys announced that it was "Item Collection Week". Is there going to be something like that this year?

Re: STGT'11 planning thread
dex already posts the scores in the score submission thread, so it's largely a duplication of effort. There usually aren't many comments in my results threads, so I wasn't sure if people were getting any value out of them. Although I guess there usually isn't much to say even if you find it informative... "yup, I'm in 31st place now".
Having said that, if anybody would like to see some additional stats or something, I'll try to fit it in. I was thinking about adding some stupid awards last year (best score that didn't count towards the team, biggest jump in rank, etc.), but I never got around to it.

Hey, anything that makes STGT seem as stupid and statistic-oriented as baseball!Davey wrote: Having said that, if anybody would like to see some additional stats or something, I'll try to fit it in. Go for it.
Re: STGT'11 planning thread
Might be interesting to have an award for "Lowest scoring clear." Pacifism challenge, or whatnot.

Best score from a first-time participant? Best combined score? Biggest gap between first and second overall/on team?Davey wrote: Having said that, if anybody would like to see some additional stats or something, I'll try to fit it in. Re: STGT'11 planning thread
Never played the arcade version, but this one should be shorter than the SNES version.
Re: STGT'11 planning thread
This game looks like Bubsy ate Gradius with a side of Taito. What a week this will be.
