Yes, as the illustrious "mjclark" says, there's no surer way to end up behind the counter at McDonald's than to approach life without a false sense of entitlement.mjclark wrote:If that's your attitude to life then good luck and can I have large fries with that?Sumez wrote:Exactly my feelingsAconcit wrote:I don't care if people pirate, I pirate a few games for now. mjclark: If you enjoy playing a game, and a condition of playing that game is paying for it, you should pay for it. Before or after, whenever you can or whenever it's comfortable. 'Wouldn't have bought it anyway' is a comically stupid argument - the point is that you should buy it.

Thanks-I neve realised how capitalism works before and will bear this in mind when Demul 0.5.7 is released.Drum wrote:mjclark: If you enjoy playing a game, and a condition of playing that game is paying for it, you should pay for it. It's nice to know that at least some people on this forum have some kind of moral sensibility and cheers for pointing me in the right direction when I was going so badly astray

EDIT: Went back and read all of your post: Just buy the game and play the ROM. It's not legal, but who gives a shit.

Let's just hope that others benefit from all the moral wisdom in this thread too and are saved from a life of sordid criminality.
Now the case against piracy has been presented so convincingly, I'm sure sales of PCBs and J360s will rocket.
Maybe the Demul devs will read this too and be persuaded to stop all that naughty ROM dumping and then we can all sleep soundly in our beds once more

Oh well. that's probably better than projecting shallow and self-righteous moral bullshit onto people who don't really care in a thread that's supposed to be about emulation .BIL wrote:Three in one thread? mj, I think you're projecting your CV (current occupation?) onto the rest of us.

Re: Too close for comfort? the revival?
Looks like you're still projecting, mj. I didn't say a word about morality while I was poking fun at your retarded post up there. With that kind of reading comprehension, it's no wonder you're planning to apply for work at Burger King (if I'm understanding your latest post correctly).

From the start - in the title - this thread was about the issues surrounding games getting emulated while they're still available to buy, you dumb fucking ape.mjclark wrote:Oh well. that's probably better than projecting shallow and self-righteous moral bullshit onto people who don't really care in a thread that's supposed to be about emulation .BIL wrote:Three in one thread? mj, I think you're projecting your CV (current occupation?) onto the rest of us.

Will we have a discussion about the copyright issues regarding the sprites in Xeno Fighters when you feel a bit better? Let's hope not

You're starting to sound a bit upset and vaguely abusive too, and also like you think that there's something derogatory about having an honest job.BIL wrote:Looks like you're still projecting, mj. Maybe we should all go and play some MAME til we've grown up

Re: Too close for comfort? the revival?
Nope, I just thought your post was dumb enough to warrant a comment - honest. It read like a fortune cookie written by a junkie and baked by a homeless bum (posting on a message board)! The subsequent projections on morality, opinions on work and being upset for some reason, that's all you.
I've been playing MAME all week nailing Metal Slug 3 1CCs and going for a 1LC, no need to point me in that direction.
edit: Oh SNAP, I own the PS2 port of MS3! I guess I am moralising here after all.

I prefer the PS2 port, actually. No slowdown + training mode (good for when surviving 95% of the game becomes a formality and you're only dying at the end of Mission 5). Talking about the 2003 standalone here, not that shitty compilation with loading times and input lag.
edit: AND none of the Xbox port's restart mission on continue bullshit.

Re: Too close for comfort? the revival?
I didn't realise there was a difference between those two.
I have the compilation, because 6 Metal Slug games for $15 sounded stupid to pass up on, but I never actually played it, I only played the "standalone version", and I remember it as having those farked up blurry graphics you still see on way too many arcade ports.

Re: Too close for comfort? the revival?
Yep, it is interlaced - I forgot, honestly. As with the PS2 port of Dragon Blaze, as long as it plays arcade perfect (pardon the lack of slowdown) I don't mind, but it's definitely a blight on an otherwise stellar port.
The emulated PS2 MS compilation has input lag and inter-scene load times not found in the standalone ports of MS3, MS4, MS5 and MS6. The US Wii one lacks hitflashes and has neither Gamecube d-pad nor Classic Controller support. The Japanese Wii collection ("Metal Slug Complete") is actually really good, at least for MS1 and MSX (only ones I play on it - I either already own or don't care for the others). No input lag or slowdown, brief load times, hitfllashes restored, Classic Controller support, and arcade-accurate difficulty. Definitely the best option outside of MVS carts for 1 and X.
...besides MAME (customisable slowdown, savestate practice, no interlace or loading, variable autofire and 4 FREE

Oh wait, you guys are already out of snappy comebacks, so let's stop because personal attacks is not cool. Still, it's cooler than being a pirate of course.

I certainly wouldn't trust a junkie or a bum as impaired as you've come across in your last few posts to hand out careers advice, let's put it that way.

Bless-you're getting cross again. Well done! Now let's get back to some emulation

Re: Too close for comfort? the revival?
You're projecting yet again. This exchange has nothing to do with the intelligence, morality or politics of either of us. It's just about your dumb post, which you're defending to the death for some reason. But keep trying to get the last word in, I'm sure your post will appear less stupid eventually.
And I already told you, I emulate stuff 4 FREE all the time. There's a full length strategy guide in my sig I wrote entirely using MAME. I don't give a toss what people do or think about emulation.

But that's what this thread is about...and you still sound a little bit cross.BIL wrote: I don't give a toss what people do or think about emulation.
It's firmly established that you disagree with the premise of one of my earlier posts but you also seem to be making personal attacks regarding my intelligence, which seems a bit inappropriate (and contravenes forum rules too). There's a lot of things to get angry about in this world but ROMs sure ain't one of them

Clearly something's pushing your buttons here but hopefully this hasn't spoiled your day too much and we can all carry on discussing the shmups that we love without becoming offensive.
Just hope Demul 0.5.7 is released soon and we can carry the debate on to the next level...
...Has anyone noticed that Illvelo is in the new MAME ROMset now (but marked as "not working")?

Re: Too close for comfort? the revival?
You made a silly comment implying that acknowledging nobody owes you free videogames is some kind of character flaw. I and at least one other guy disagreed. There's little to discuss, really.
And seriously - I don't care about the morality or ethics or what have you of emulation itself. It's just not that important a subject to me. A boring ice-cold ethical potato as opposed to the scalding-hot one some consider it, you know? I do like to watch those people chuck said hot potato back and forth occasionally, though.

...And not to go on about it too much but one of the best things about Demul 0.5.7 could be the ability to play Illvelo

Wonder if all these new MAME ROMS (Ibara, Deathsmiles etc) will actually be playable in Demul or whether it's different dumps?
