Twinkle Star Sprites won't work on MAME?
Well, according to the emulated list on MAME, it says that Twinkle Star Sprites is supposed to work. But it doesn't even show the title when I loaded the directory.... is there anything wrong?
And how's the game? I heard there's a PS2 version coming up... that's a sequel for it, right?

I've found myself a neogeo.zip that's 262KB in size, placed it in the roms folder, as told by you and this site: http://www.mame.net/mamefaq.html#s09 , but still, TSP won't show up on the load menu... o_O
Did I got myself a fake bios?

Well, I don't know. I used to play TSS on MAME til I found my DC's copy, TSS should work on MAME. You probaby needs to found another ROM through.
The PS2 TSS LPP is the sequel to the NeoGeo one. But it also got the NeoGeo one to unlock.
So you basically can play both the new version and the old by owning the PS2 TSS LPP. So the PS2 version is the one to get.

*Meow* I am as serious as a cat could possible be. *Meow*

Oh god, come on. Get off your high horse. The guy wants to play a shmup, the least we can do is help him out a bit.PsikyoPshumpPshooterP wrote:honestly we need to cut the crap on mame shmup topics..people shouldnt be bitching about free roms..
It's because of MAME that a vast majority of people are able to play shmups to begin with. The least we can do is try to help them get their shit straight so that they can play the stuff. Yea, most of the time it comes down to, "hey assclown, you're using an outdated dump ment for NeoRageX; fix it" or "Update your MAME build, retard", but that doesn't mean we have to be elitest assholes against people just because they're unwilling to spend retardedly high amounts of money for a shmup. a fucking shmup. Come on now.
I thought this place was about sharing our love for shmups, not about being a bunch of asshole cockmonkeys that look down on people just because they don't spend as much money as some other people. When I'm in the mood to hang around that crowd, I go to digital press (which is quite a fun and unique site!). Seriously, some of you guys really take this shit too far. Some of you are blatantly anti-MAME and others are anti-anything that's not an arcade board. That's just fucking stupid. Way to fragment a community.
So yea, not to sound like a broken record or anything, but come the fuck on. Let's help people when they need help and maximize the amount of time we spend talking about shmups. You know, blowing shit up. The universal joy.
Yes, you have to scroll down and find the game manually, even if you do have the right rom set. I hope MEGA enterprises makes an official PC version of Twinkle Star Sprites like they did with Metal Slug.dessgeega wrote:neo geo roms won't show up on my "available" list even though i can play them fine. i have twinkle star sprites on my "custom" list.infested_ysy wrote:I've found myself a neogeo.zip that's 262KB in size, placed it in the roms folder, as told by you and this site: http://www.mame.net/mamefaq.html#s09 , but still, TSP won't show up on the load menu... o_O
This is because you don't have _all_ of the bios'. MAME32 uses the MAME audit routines to determine whether games show as green. However, they won't pass validation unless all of the roms are present.dessgeega wrote: neo geo roms won't show up on my "available" list even though i can play them fine. i have twinkle star sprites on my "custom" list.
You can switch bios' from the options. The alternatives would Mmake MAME a lot more complex (seperate management of bios roms along the lines of carts/tapes in MESS)
ROFL, are you kidding?!?BrianC wrote: Yes, you have to scroll down and find the game manually, even if you do have the right rom set. I hope MEGA enterprises makes an official PC version of Twinkle Star Sprites like they did with Metal Slug.
That was just MAME, hacked up with a crappy frontend. If they try that again now we'd probably set the lawyers on them!
An officially lincensed "crappy frontend", thank you very much. I'm not making fun of you for downloading roms, so I fail to see the humor in me wanting to get official collections over downloading roms.PsikyoFan wrote:ROFL, are you kidding?!?BrianC wrote: Yes, you have to scroll down and find the game manually, even if you do have the right rom set. Also, for the record, I do certainly plan to get either the DC or Saturn Twinkle Star Sprites and maybe even get some modding or a JPS2 so I can import the new one, if it doesn't come to the US like suggested at EB Games's site. When I do download ROMs, I do so to try the game out and delete the rom after trying a couple of levels. However, I do like playing games on PC with my gamepad and I like getting well done console ports for PC.
Of course I prefer real ports too, but the funny bit is that although the games are properly licensed (well, actually I doubt Playmore would have allowed the situation if they'd known the truth about Megagames), MAME isn't.BrianC wrote: An officially lincensed "crappy frontend", thank you very much. Therefore it's actually worse than downloading roms as money is exchanging hands for copyright-infringing material.
good point. It's not like MAME costs anything, so there is no good reason why they couldn't have gotten the rights to use it. Other collections that use roms like the Activision Anthology use permission for the emulators, so there is no reason why MEGA Enterprises couldn't have done the same. Still, they do own the rights to the games themselves and part of the money does go towards the games, which they do own.PsikyoFan wrote:Of course I prefer real ports too, but the funny bit is that although the games are properly licensed (well, actually I doubt Playmore would have allowed the situation if they'd known the truth about Megagames), MAME isn't.BrianC wrote: An officially lincensed "crappy frontend", thank you very much. Anyway, I didn't even think of the copyright issues with MAME when mentioning that there should be a PC port of TSS, but I don't see how a disc with copyrighted ROMs and uncopyrighted MAME is worse than buying bootlegs where nothing is lincensed and the money goes to someone possibly far worse than Mega Enterprises (which I really try to avoid and get rid of when I find out they are bootlegs). Also, when I got the PC collection, I didn't know that the MAME wasn't copyrighted.
Also, when I get PC collections, I do try to make sure they are legit, though many of the fake ones of ebay are extremely easy to spot and very laughable. OT, but when I searched the roms in the official Atari PC collection, I noticed that the Atari 2600 Tempest prototype is actually included with them. I was shocked and surprised to find this out. I really need to get some of those doujin PC games. Now that's console style gameplay with style.

*shrugs* I don't know what to tell 'ya, it worked fine for me-but I always use MAME32, for the GUI, so maybe it works better on that. It should work, and it's a GREAT way to try this title out-I was told it was only worth buying if you have someone to play it with, but the Story mode alone makes it worth buying, IMO.
Oh yea man, right on. I picked up a Sega Sonic Mega Pack thing for PC that came with like 20+ games or something. It was only $7.50, which imo is a damn good price for everything it came with. Always nice to see when an emulator author gets picked up for professional work (and Sega seems to be pretty big on picking up talent from the internet).BrianC wrote:Also, when I get PC collections, I do try to make sure they are legit, though many of the fake ones of ebay are extremely easy to spot and very laughable.
The roms are stored in KVQ format, though... don't know very well how to convert them, but you can go ahead and grab SMD/BIN dumps guilt-free at that point, and playing in Fusion on an HTPC is just so superior to using an actual genesis. Any controller you want to use...you can. You can make the image look at clean or as dirty as you want (you like noisy RF? you can simulate that easily!). You never have to worry about batteries dying out or forgetting passwords. Mmmmmm
Man, just talking about it makes me want to fire up Vectorman

I have the most recent version of Mame32 and it recognizes my Neo Geo roms just fine. Do you really think it's normal to not have your Neo roms show up in the "available" folder? You guys either have an outdated build of Mame, or outdated dumps of Neo roms that are not "fully" compatible with your version of Mame. As has been mentioned, all the roms were changed a couple of years ago, at which point I had the same problem. Eventually I found newer dumps of all my Neo roms...ah, broadband. And btw, if it was a matter of not having the right bios, the games would not run at all. Mame is awesome, but you have to put some work in with updates and tweaking and so on.
