Stage 6 is way harder than 7 and 8, once I got past it I made straight to the level 8 boss on one life (didn't beat him though).

lol first time i played this game.
Won some kind of competition at a Swedish retro game convention.
Played on a JK-cab with terrible buttons and stick. Had my right wrist in a 20° upward angle that started to feel after some mashing.
Got this after 7 or 8 credits 10 min before deadline. :)

Nicely done! The Ninja stage's terrain tends to trip a lot of new players up from what I've seen, but it's also pretty much the peak of the game's difficulty. Once you get a grasp of using the angle shots to outmaneuver and kill enemies before they can overrun or blindside you, it's pretty much endurance and nerve from there on in (and the game gives tons of extends and stacks your powerups, so you get plenty of practice when reaching later rounds).

NES version

Image

Perikles - 696,710 - ALL - Yes - AV Famicom

This port ends after three loops for some reason. Once you start fighting the final bosses for the last time there's unfortunately no way to see your score ever again since it just halts in an ending screen without any way to exit it. Thus I took the liberty to at least add the 30,000 points for defeating the bosses. I also didn't do any milking whatsoever, immediately snagged the wanted posters and fought against the bosses as efficiently as possible.

Am I wrong in assuming you can play this game forever and counterstop if you never get the wanted posters?

Finally got myself a cab to put this into! \o/
And it turns out I still got it even after 30 years. :)

Thought I'd go for the TG world record, but their rules are stupid and the current scores most likely violate those rules as well (leeching, milking).
Going to go for it anyway, but do it unofficially.

Way past cool.

Yeah, TG makes everything more annoying than it needs to be. Can't stand how they handle Tempest, for example.

No worries. I don't really get bothered about the format, though it is nice to have. I'm more concerned about the information.

I'm not sure if the US version is acceptable, it's pretty convenient to fight Wolf Chief early.. I have a similar score on Saturn, it's a bit lower and I died on stage 8 but I can post that instead if the US version is frowned upon. I'm working on the clear, it's a loooong process though. It's a dream of mine hah

Oh right, the US version is different. Normally I'd be alright with it, but I don't feel like researching all this right now. If more people play the US version, or if I ever get around to it, I'll add a board. Don't delete your score!

The only difference is that stage 3 and 6 are switched around. So you're fighting Wolf Chief earlier. Makes restarts a lot more bearable xD

I think I'll check out the US version, might be cool to create more competition.

Improvement on my score but lost my last men at the same spot (9th boss), unfortunate. This Arcade Cabinet port is legit 100%..

Great score! I'm still struggling with the stupid ninja on stage 3. Even with save state practice I can't get a consistent groove going, yet. :)

Thanks!

I used to struggle with that guy when I first started but I developed a strat for him. Maybe it can work for you as well, if I can explain it correctly. I obviously take down every enemy in the lower part of the stage before the ninja shows up. When he spawns, I hang in the very bottom right corner (could probably work on the left side too if it's more comfy for you). I focus on regular enemies while I wait for the ninja to throw his shurikens. The idea is to mislead his shurikens, as soon as he throws them I move towards the middle and make a move on him. You can try to get a hit on him right as he lands but you'll rarely be able to nail him that way, make sure you anticipate his next jump and fire as soon as he lands that one. Move back to the corner, rinse repeat.. he can still kill me every now and then but I'm successful 90% of the time using this strategy, with or without the horse.

edit: I find that hitting him at an angle is quite effective.

Don't give up.. he gets easier the more you play. Wolf Chief and Wingate Family though, sheesh... still struggling hard on those guys. Game is tough xD

Flopped hard on Wingate Family.. I lost something like 4 of my remaining lives on the run-up to the boss. Although, that probably wouldn't have changed anything. That final boss fight is absolutely ridiculous. I've included the video this time..
