Can you even emulate any of the Grev stuff?

I know Strania's a no because that's 360 only, but I don't think the others are on MAME either.

Probably not, I honestly don't use MAME, those were just the games that I thought best represented each company.

It's too bad. I'd definitely buy a 360 port of Border Down if they made one. Their other games I'm not too interested in.

Ain't a doujin, bro. At least, it did end up being officially published for Saturn after it started as a PC doujin.

I agree that Border Down is grevs best, I'm not really into the others. Never tried Under Defeat.

Steam Hearts came out on both the Saturn and PC Engine super cd.

The Saturn port plays better, but has no nips.

Only that nobody can play it :/

The currently "leaked" version is slow as hell, without sound and only supports Ibara, Mushihimesama and ~tama.
Unless you know something I don't.

No.
I think he isn't trolling. It's his serious opinion. At least this time.

Okay then, let's ban you since you're a relatively new poster here and you came from MotK and you also like to troll people.

Awesome, not only does the OP get some good shmup suggestions, he gets a little taste of the drama that happens to open up in 50% of the threads started here

Go onto shmups forum expecting anything useful and you're bound to end up in a totally unrelated flamewar.

This is fun, thanks OP.

Makaron will emulate Border Down, Under Defeat and Senko No Ronde as well as giving up the Milestone goodness of Radirgy, Karous and Radirgy Noa :D

Buying a Dreamcast (less than £20 last time I looked) could also be a good gateway into quality shmuppage....

I don't think Treasurance counts as I only remember him ever trolling and doing nothing productive on it.

I can tell you haven't been on Worst Thread Ever in a while - derailment is a grand forum tradition here.

I personally like to honestly contribute unless I can tell a thread is going to be boring or predictable from the start, in which case I like to liven it up. Trez and Banana, on the other hand, just derail everything they come across.

The difference is threads used to derail into other discussions. "[name] is a faggot and should stop posting" is not really a discussion. The only times this happened before you guys was when Elixir posted, but the big difference there is that Elixir is actually a helpful/informative poster, people just hate his attitude or something. Not something I can say for Bananamatic or Treasurance. It's not like I make a profound dissertation on shmupping every time I post but at least I don't go out of my way to be a gigantic tool.

RNG pretty much says what I was thinking.

By productive, I wanted to say helpful, but there's lots of stuff that can be done without breaking the rules even without being helpful. I guess I should have just said posting normally, not trolling, helping as needed, etc.

If you have Steam, you could certainly do worse than Jamestown. There's not much competition, but it's an awfully good title.

Different people have different tastes, you should try everything available to you and figure out which games you enjoy. Play every Cave, Raizin, Takumi, and Psikyo game on MAME and decide for yourself which to get serious about.

If you can't be bothered to do that, play Dodonpachi. That's the safest recommendation you can give anyone just getting into shooters, it's very straightforward and an incredibly solid stepping stone to give you an idea of what you like and don't like. I personally can't stand the game anymore but I've spent a ton of time playing it and don't regret any of it.

If you have access to it I would definitely suggest giving Mushihimesama Futari (preferably Black Label) a shot. Without factoring in opinions or personal tastes at all I would say that game may be the best modern shooter all around. Very distinct game modes with different focuses, good difficulty curve across the spectrum, just a very solid game all around. It has a ton to offer without any glaring flaws or polarizing game design decisions (unless you really really hate bullet cancelling).

 It wasn't on purpose, but I just realized that I totally left Takumi out of my list.

Definitely give em a try though, might be your cup of tea.
