XBOX 360 Platinum Forecast
XBOX 360 Platinum Forecast
So I'm pleased to finally have a chance to play newer Cave titles with the affordable Platinum Collection releases of Deathsmiles and Mushihimesama Futari. The Platinum releases of these two titles have me wondering what the chances are of future Platinum releases of others like Ketsui, DDP DOJ BL, Espgaluda II BL, DDP DFK, etc. I thought that these releases stemmed from high sales in the US, not sure what the exact determining factor is in Japan and whether or not these titles in question are likely to receive the Platinum treatment. Any ideas or thoughts?
Re: XBOX 360 Platinum Forecast
DOJBLEX is NOT going to get a platinum release, the stolen code prevents that. Ketsui has a chance, DFK is almost guaranteed, and ESPGaluda II is unlikely.

Re: XBOX 360 Platinum Forecast
Why is DFK more likely than Espgaluda II? If they go by sales, I'm pretty sure Espgaluda II sold more copies in the first week.
If you're after DOJBLEX or Ketsui, I'd advise moving fast if you're not a gambling man, as Amazon.co.jp no longer stocks any copies of either themselves - they're down to third party sellers only, meaning it's possible they've both gone out of print.

I would love Espgaluda II to go Platinum. The cheapest copy I can find is $64.99 (which isnt too harsh, but twice what I paid for Mushi Futari)
Re: XBOX 360 Platinum Forecast
So I guess this listing is from a third-party seller: http://www.amazon.co.jp/dp/B001C3MKTI/. What do you think of the possibility of discontinuing the original-packaged product for a Platinum release, or is it too early for that? I can understand the supply shortage of DOJ BL Ex, but why would Ketsui get axed so quickly? Did it have very poor sales? I can see how ESPII could sell best considering it's region-free status for the regular edition, but Deathsmiles made it platinum with JP exclusivity right?StarCreator wrote:Why is DFK more likely than Espgaluda II? Thanks for the comments everyone.

Everything I heard about Ketsui seemed to imply that it sold quite badly in Japan, so I doubt it'd go Platinum.

Yes, at the time of this writing, it "Ships from and sold by 買取王国ダンシングベア 【年末年始12/31~1/3休業日】. " It would either say Amazon or nothing if Amazon had any copies themselves.NOAH wrote:So I guess this listing is from a third-party seller: http://www.amazon.co.jp/dp/B001C3MKTI/. Deathsmiles sold something like 3-4 times more copies than Espgaluda II, if I recall correctly, so no, the region free releases didn't sell best. Not even close.
Re: XBOX 360 Platinum Forecast
Ketsui sold like shit. I bought my LE for less than 3400 JPY on Amazon and the following week they lowered the price further. BLEX could be re-released if Arika agreed, but that ship seems to have sailed. Neither Galuda or DFK sold well.Estebang wrote:Everything I heard about Ketsui seemed to imply that it sold quite badly in Japan, so I doubt it'd go Platinum.

That's a damn shame. You think Cave will try to get good sales by making more Loli shooters? I wouldn't blame them if they did.. gotta make money as a company you know.
Espgaluda III needs to happen.

Is that really the case? Ive heard ppl here mention that only demestic Japanese sales are listed, exports and DLC isntDeathsmiles sold something like 3-4 times more copies than Espgaluda II, if I recall correctly, so no, the region free releases didn't sell best. Not even close.

Re: XBOX 360 Platinum Forecast
Why wouldn't exports be included? A sale is a sale, and they'd have no reason to push the numbers downwards.
Re: XBOX 360 Platinum Forecast
Does anyone anticipate DFK Black Label going platinum? There was no DLC on this one right?
Re: XBOX 360 Platinum Forecast
^^^I really think they'll just include BL on the DFK platinum collection whenever it comes about.
Re: XBOX 360 Platinum Forecast
The next possible title to hit Platinum is most probably DFK 1.5. I remember checking the prerequisites for going Platinum, and apparently they're none: Microsoft decides for themselves which games go beyond and which don't. Which is probably a good thing, because had it been strictly quantity-based, no retail shmup would ever make it.
DeathSmiles was the first to go Platinum, and it's Cave's single most successful port. It was a no-brainer.
Futari is one of the most (if not the most) popular Cave games beside DeathSmiles, the release itself is stellar with 9+3 play modes on disc and 3 more via DLC, it's high-resolution, and the game is region-free. The next most obvious choice.
Galuda II was somewhat of a surprise, but then again it's also a popular game with a very good port (by the standards of Cave's in-house porting), 6+1 play modes on the disc, also high-resolution, and also region-free. Sales were moderately successful, so I guess it was warranted after all.
DFK 1.5 is a very popular game of Cave's flagship series that received a reasonably high quality port with 4 modes on disc and 2 more via DLC, high-resolution visuals, and is the most popular non-region-free game in Cave's catalog. While I don't think a Platinum release will include any of the DLCs, I do think that, if it occurs, it will be this game.

Damn. I blew 64 bucks on Espgaluda II right before the release of the platinum version
