Doujin Giga Wing clones?

I'm curious if Giga Wing has gotten the kind of love from the Doujin community that Ketsui and DDP have. There are many games out there that sorta copy the concept with a bullet cancelling shield, but RefleX is about the closest I know of to a game to actually copying GW's "bounce bullets back at enemies, direct hits result in a score multiplier."

Beat Hazard included a "Reflect Barrier" that does what it says: reflects projectiles and stuff. Pretty awesome.

Also, don't forget RefleX by Siter Skain, entirely based on the reflection mechanic.

rrootage GW mode, sorta pale compared to other more whole games, but it doesn't get closer than that as to cloning the system

If I think about it, there really isnt any doujin Takumi clones except those already listed. Off the top of my head Jamestown is really the only real Takumi homage out there (IIRC The devs are fans and love MM).

I know Takumi is well liked by western gamers, do they have the same following in Japan?

Another more Mars Matrix one: Death By Cube (xbla)

It's an arena shooter though. You need to use bullet throwing and a dash mechanic to survive. Oddly enough the multiplayer was fun and the mechanic worked great there there, you could also ram into things while dragging bullets around.

There was this awesome demo, Cebo or +Cebo from Aliceproject (unfortunatly dont look like they are around anymore)
It was like marsmatrix or gigawings but on dru... I mean Rez. If anyone as some info on this project or what it became, please do tell.

IS rally raid confirmed freeware? I love shmups but I've got a job where I don't want to run stupid risks by having games on my PC of questionable legality (hence no emulation, only indies and doujins)

Yes, Rally Raid is considered freeware, hence it's hosted on fellow shmupper rancor's cool free doujin shmups section of his retail site. It used to be that it was possible to d/l the Rally Raid demo and buy the full game on CD-Rom disc but it's not possible nowdays.
