Made it down for a bit tonight - hzt and I were discussing where Mushi might go. So what's the latest? Personally (given that red Earth is a no go) I wouldn't mind seeing it in the large Futari cab - as it's the only one with decent buttons and doesn't break your back to play it.

Opinions? Hope I'm not out of line offering mine (as I contribute a big fat zero to the PCB's in Casino...)

Dan76, I wouldn't mind if Mushi replaced Futari in the big vert cab: I feel done with Futari for the moment, and want to put some time into Mushi. Being able to do that on a cab that's actually comfortable to use would be great!

And Illyrian, I hope you have a good time at Casino tonight!

This is what we were saying last night. It's been great having Futari in that cab but everyone's played it to death - especially considering most people have the port - and apart from CHI we've all reached our goals on it (don't know about Aliquantic or people not down so regularly, sorry you guys). If we did this you and spadgy would have to talk about what happens with the DOJ cab and who gets their game back though, and obviously you two get to make any decisions in the end.

Our other idea last night involved buying new sticks/buttons for the other cabs, installing them when no one's looking, and hoping The Engineer doesn't notice...

May as well post this in here, this is where all the action is. Just a quick one re: the PCB rq's for the meet:
The PCB playlist is kinda slim at the mo:

Muchi Muchi Pork (JDE)
DDP 2 Bee Storm (hzt)
Ibara (hzt)
Pink Sweets (Simon demo - hzt)
Batrider (Spadgy)
DDO DOJ BL (Spadgy)
Anyone else got any PCB RQ's? (They don't have to be shmups - there will be a Supergun set up independently.)

I like this idea! Seriously though, it wouldn't actually cost that much to get some good sticks and buttons for a few of the other cabs... maybe the regulars should team up and buy some? I certainly wouldn't mind chipping in.

Mushi replace Futari... and Futari can replace RFJ
i'm not done with Futari yet... everywhere i go it's either Black Label or Mushi 1.5

honestly... nowadays the fighting crowd is alot less then before (due to most of the games are on port), but still pretty busy where the SSFIV cabinets are... but also the Casino shmup scene is slowly growing, we need to talk to the engineer about that Red Earth cabinet,

we pump money in Casino  we donate PCBs to Casino so we pump more money in Casino  now you guys are thinking buying new sticks for Casino  next thing you know we'll be searching for new monitors for Casino...LMAO :!:

I was also thinking of hiring a new engineer if I can find a decent one, the one they've got installed at the moment is pretty cool but not really in the best condition - can be quite hard to deal with sometimes.

It's 1.5 that's in Casino... surely you can find one and beat your target, I'm pretty sure there's a +10% endgame bonus if you clear it on Japanese soil.

Greetings gents.

I thought I'd drop in to give my thoughts on how my first evening at casino was (last friday).

It was a mixed bag of awesomeness and disappointment.

So I got there at about 15.50. First thing I see is a rather muscular guy playing strikers 1945 while sitting on an ashtray. We'll come back to him later.

So I have a look around. The Mushihimesama Futari machine has a MASSIVE screen I note. I sit down to play and seriously, the top of the screen is in a different postcode to the bottom. As much as I tried I couldn't get into it with the massive screen and kept crashing out on the 3rd level.

So, briefly stopping to admire two of the street fighter players getting angry with each other, I sat down to play some progear. Played for a while, all the while noticing the man at strikers 1945 seeming to get angrier and angrier over time. By the time I stopped playing progear there was blue language and general rage!

So I saw a 3rd strike cab and challenged the guy playing to some games. To make it brief, I beat him 3 times, then he grabbed his bag and left the whole casino. I think he was angry. About this time someone else with a hilarious cricketing hat thing came in, and after briefly admiring the ever angrier strikers 1945 player sat down at mushi.

I noticed the DOJ cab and was like "BUSINESS IS AFOOT!" (I just thought it, didn't actually say it out loud). Unfortunately the DOJ was very uncomfortable to use, the bat top stick and wierd angled screen meant that I had to stop playing after a few credits as I was actually in pain.

I also noticed an original Dodonpachi cab but that was far too close to the street fighter players for me to really get a game in.

From that point (by this time the angry strikers player had left) I mostly just played progear (badly), then messed around a bit on the 3rd strike cab. I left at about 7pm in the end.

Overall it was quite good fun, it was a shame more people weren't there but it was said in the thread that friday wasn't a busy night. It's also a shame that DOJ was in the cab it was or I would have definately stuck around longer to put money into that.

I'll certainly be heading back sometime soon, and personally I'd love to see DOJ in another cab. In general it's a shame that Dodonpachi and DOJ seem to be well away from the other shmup cabs, it would be awesome if they were all in one area.

That would have John the Mr Do! guy, he is a pretty great Mr Do! (and Space Invaders and Pacman and so forth) player but he does spend a lot of time calling the enemies dinosaur sluts. I don't think he's especially muscular though?

If you mean an supercool hat worn at an awesome and not at all obnoxious angle that was probably me, I was also carrying bicycle handlebars and possibly eating a sandwich. I didn't notice anyone playing any shmups but I wasn't very awake so that doesn't mean much. If you did mean a cricketing hat it wasn't me because I don't know what that is.

I'd bet they were handlebars for a fixie. I can see you rocking one of those. I'm to ridiculous and attracted to riding down steps and through mud on a bike for a fixie, even though I'd secretly quite like one.

Anyway, tomorrow, Thursday, I WILL be in Casino.

Lol, Casino IS shit, y'know. :)
The sticks are fucked, the screens are fucked and the clientele are very strange - but that's why we love it I guess. We're British and therefore acceptant that it's the best we're going to get.

I too struggle playing on the Futari screen. It's not that it's ridiculously large, but it's very awkward to play when upright because it sits totally vertical and therefore right in your face. The same size screen leans away on candy cabs, making it much easier to view/play properly.

I've never had a problem with that monitor, I'll accept that it's shit but despite everyone else complaining about it it's never bothered me. The DOJ one bothers me more as I've never learnt to get the last bee on stage 1 consistently because I can hardly make out anything on the left edge of the screen

You can easily ride stairs and mud on something like this, you just don't want another nail in your trendy East London coffin. (I am not commenting regarding my bike's gears or lack of)

I'll be down and hitting up Srikers 1945 Plus sometime between 5 and 6 tomorrow - spadgy, are you bringing Mushi down or is that not happening for now?

That's possible, and the hat was awesome :P

All I remember about the mushi player was he was playing futari on maniac difficulty.

If there's an original mushi cab down there I'm going to have to clock some serious time in, as the PS2 port is super fuzzy >.<

I'll be dropping by this evening as well, at about the same time. Spadgy, shall we have a go at getting Mushi installed tonight? If only for dan76's mental health. :P

Had a great time in Casino with HZT and Spadgy yesterday evening, and the original Mushihime-sama has been installed successfully as well!

It's in the big vert cab where Futari used to be, and Futari is back home with me now.

Yeah - last night was great fun! Great to be back at Casino.

I'm so glad to have a new game in most of us haven't given too much time to previously. I might even have to practice at home on the port.

So - DOJ and DDP stay where they are for now.

I came so close to clearing Original today, on my 6th credit I'd played on it... if I'd survived for one second longer or not wasted a couple of bombs due to nervousness I would have had it. It took several minutes for my heartbeat to get back to normal.

Yeah, Mushi original is an easier clear than Futari, so you're well trained to beat it now. Then you can get onto Maniac which is loads of fun.

I never learned to score on Mushi though, just can't get my head around it.

I should definitely drop by some time, the only arcade action I ever get shmupwise is the Strikers 1945 at the London Trocadero, and I only go there once every few months.

CHI - Is the parking beyond Waterstones (opposite) still free from 1.30pm on Saturdays?
