RQ: Darius silver ball bonuses

Finished this game yesterday and for some reason, I got lucky on obtaining 51,200 once. Any idea how the following bonuses are obtained:

50, 100, 200, 400, 1,600, 3,200, 6,400, 12,800, 25,600, and 51,200?

Pretty sure all the silver point items crap in Darius games is random; the original is probably worse about it than Darius Gaiden.

Darius Burst has deterministic methods to getting maximum points. Something to do with moving backwards into the ball. You might not be able to get max points 100% of the time, but it was from a Japanese publication, and I certainly noticed a difference when I tried it.
