Holy Hell FINAL RELEASE

Post by genecyst »

Hi,
i think it's time to get out my game from the development forum where it's been during the past 2 years.
It still be a WIP, but i think it's quite playable by now.

Holy Hell is a shmups-puzzle hybrid game for Game boy advance.
It's inspired by games such mr driller, ikaruga, twinkle star sprite and magical drop. Mix it up all together and shake.
here's the result:
http://www.otouv.org/hlyhll/hlyhll.zip

Holy hell blog:
holyhellgba.blogspot.com

it works on real hardware and emulators.

some screens:

there are more then 40 levels, unlockable characters and hidden worlds so...
ENJOY, it's free.

EDIT:

just updated the game at the "locked" version. hope you like it!

ps. if it recognize the older savefile you can erase the memory in the option panel by pressing together L + R +SELECT buttons.

Nice job reading. This isn't a movie review... you actually need to familiarize yourself w/ the thread before adding to it.

Sorry to the OP, I only had a brief scan of the thread and missed that.

Well it was like the 2nd line!

I need to find my flash shit and load this up on my GBA for my next trip. I miss that era. DC/PS2/GBA... before games sucked. Looks nice. Worst case scenario I'll bust this out on an emulator.

thanks guys, i hope you like it. here you can find a simple explanation of the scoring system used in the game.

shooting one block gives you 1pt
shooting 100 blocks of the same color continuously makes you reach color COMBO.
combo add to your score 10000pt.
any combo loop you realize without dying, multiply the value of a block x10. the max value of a block is 1000pt.
any combo loop you realize without dying makes you gain 1000pt x tot combo at the end of a level.
destroying any block in a level makes you gain 30000pt.
NEVER shooting and only eating blocks of your colour makes you gain 5000pt any level you pass.
using bomb and destroying more than 10 blocks at a time makes you gain 100pt
using bomb and destroying more than 50 blocks at a time makes you gain 500pt
eating more than 8 blocks without shooting bomb rise the value of a block to 10pt
eating more than 50 blocks without shooting bomb rise the value of a block to 100pt
eating more than 100 blocks without shooting bomb rise the value of a block to 1000pt and actives "block eater" mode.
when "block eater" mode is active you can use your bomb freely and the blocks still give you 1000pt each.

here's a little trailer with no sound... as the game by now... i'm working on it.

Here-here. That's some class right there.

As for the game itself I'll have to give it a try tonight. Almost looks like a reverse Mr. Driller.

I am dying over and over and over and over again on the first section. I sort of understand what's going on, but that's a hell of a bottleneck to throw out right away. I think you might want a smoother entry point. I love the look of the game in the trailer and I want to play *that* - but I'm not sure I have the patience to get to it.

EDIT: Ok, for some reason it starts you off with the final area? Against God? I'm guessing the menu and stuff will be made clearer in the final release. Played tree guy and, yeah, this makes sense. Reminds me of Dan Da Dan only actually fully fleshed out. If you knew how much I loved Dan Da Dan, you would understand how happy this makes me.
IGMO - Poorly emulated, never beaten.

Dude in the Original Fucking Post was a correct definition for me...
i explain why... when you start the game automatically it should point out to the last level completed... but i've made available for download the version that's completely unlocked...
fuck myself... :D

i'll change this after my shift so you can enjoy the possibility of unlocking characters and worlds...

thanks a lot Drum, i'm really glad you liked it!!

Great to hear that it's finally getting a proper bona-fide release as a real GBA cart. I'm sure playing Holy Hell on a GBA SP or even the ultra-slim Gameboy Micro setup is the way to go. ^_~

Any plans to release HH with a full color GBA factory box + full color instruction manual (for that professional look)?

Holy Hell FINAL RELEASE

Post by genecyst »

Hi guys, the game is done.
you can download it here for free.

I'm not able to provide cartridge at the moment. sorry.

Let me know what you think. it works well emulated.

ps. it should be necessary to do a memory reset to be able to record your progress.
to do it go to option screen and press SELECT + LEFT + RIGHT.

Great to hear that GBA Holy Hell is done. I'd be interested in a real GBA cart of HH please.

I've read that if you have a GCN console with a GB Player accessory, you can play your favorite GBA games in progressive scan mode (if using either a GCN Component Video cable or a JPN GCN D-Terminal cable setup). How cool is that?

I bet you'd be tickled pink to see HH up & running on a proper candy cab, right genecyst? That'd be one for the ages, indeed.
