I would recommend you buy the 360 Cave shmups if you can, As the newer games are more accessible to noobs then whats currently on mame. If you dont have a 360, then try either DDP / Esp Galuda on mame or Crimson Clover's simple mode, Blue Wish Resurrection or even that new Jamestown STG on steam. Jamestown is geared to be very noob friendly and encourages perfecting your playstyle but in little small chunks so tha noobs can have fun with it from the get go. Im sure you will find it more pleasurable than sinking months into a rock hard Cave STG as your first 1CC attempt and give you the drive to go on and tackle harder games

As for me I can 1CC games if I work hard at it, but my problem is that I like scoring too much. And cant bring myself to play for survival without taking risks for score. It doesnt help that im an aggressive player and have been playing a lot of proximity based shmups. Still im having fun, although I am playing the games more casually these days, as im trying out some other genres, By that I mean im spending less time playing the games but when I do im still serious in my playstyle.

I'm sticking with DDP. I switched from the C-S ship to the A-L ship. Waaaay better. I'm starting to get through the 4th Stage without wasting and entire credit.

Thanks for the Xbox recs. I actually have a 360 so I'll be looking out for some of these titles once I get a little better at DDP.

...I think I'm addicted.

Good luck with stages 5 & 6 when shit is coming at you from everywhere and all you can do is shoot in a straight line.

I lose interest. But I just play a whole bunch of them and one day I'll go back to a particular game and get close to 1CC'n it, but soon as I try again I die heaps and it puts me off again. I've gotten to the last stage in ES Ra.De a lot and always get fucked over by the train bit, the rest is fine for me up to the boss. It's that scrolling background that messes with my head.

I think the only shmup Ive 1cced was Shienryu on psx. Its not a very good port though due to slowdown issues.

I've been playing a lot of raiden fighters on xbox lately though. Judge spear all the way

I can honestly say I've never tried to 1CC a game. I generally play shmups pretty casually, and am quite fine with it.

It's just easier to destroy bosses and heavier tanks and things with the beam on that A-L.

I've only 1CC'd a few games, most of them being older Genesis titles(MUSHA, TFIII, Forgotten Worlds[it's a shmup, somehow]) and then games people seem to hate like Super R-Type on the SNES. I must've had some mad patience when I was younger because I remember beating that game on the hardest difficulty without dying while using a crippled SNES controller. Total memorization.

As for the danmaku/bullet hell genre I've barely 1CC'd any of them. I tend to get to the last level and then I lose somewhere. I did 1CC Progear and Futari Arrange though.

Here's a good question: Do NES games count?

One time I wanted to see if it kept getting harder. It doesn't get any harder after the second loop. I finally ran out of lives in the fourth loop when I got bored.

I managed to 1CC Fast Striker on Original a week ago.

You should specify the number of loops for your 1CC. I guess if you cleared one loop on one credit that's a 1CC.

Actually, that makes me wonder... Does a 1CC have to count the second loops found in a lot of STGs??
Hey, if it wasn't for 1-ALLs I wouldn't have any 1cc's to my name. Go ahead and count them; even a 1-ALL is a display of significant skill (or strategic bombing in the case of DDP).

I've 1CC'd 59 arcade shmups on their default settings as well as about a dozen console shooters. I feel like such a man.

But as Wilt Chamerblain said, I'd rather beat one shmup 100 times than beat 100 shmups one time. At least I think he was talking about shmups.

I'm back on the C-S and clearing stages 1, 2 and 3 pretty consistently with No Miss. Still got a ways to go. Also, I just saw a YouTube video of the final boss at the end of the 2nd loop. Please kill me.
