The wind! I hate the wind! Whenever I want to go for a nice walk or bike ride it always seems to be windy. Like today, it was fun riding with the wind behind me, sure, but it wasn't fun riding back into a 25mph+ headwind. (All right it was kind of fun in a masochistic "my mouth tastes like blood and I kind of wish I was dead but not only am I going to make it all the way I'm going to overtake everyone else I see" way, but I just wanted to go for a chilled out ride...) And when you just want to walk down to the shops and listen to some music but all you can hear is the wind and all your clothing and hair is like flapflapflaplookathowannoyingicanbeifItryflapflapflap and fuuuuuuuuuck.

What is the point of the wind? It is clearly not necessary. Our technology must be advanced enough to build a giant windbreak around the country or something. I don't understand why this hasn't been done. I really hate the wind.

I just finished uncharted 2 and at times the camera would be in a position where I couldn't see the floor. So I press circle and instead of covering myself behind the nearest obstacle, I dropped down off a ledge hanging so everyone could shoot me.

I find it frustrating that sometimes you get stuck in an area the size of a football field looking for a couple of coloured ledges to climb. Although Prince of Persia suffers from that too.

Glad its over really.

My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic.

This thing apparently has a rather expressive adult furry fanbase. Pony avatars have been popping up everywhere, and I've been adblocking them. This shit is seriously creepy.

I actually watched an episode just to see what the big deal was. Yes, I watched an episode; and even asked a few people why they liked it. Their excuse revolves almost entirely around "the director is known for <good plot> in Powerpuff Girls". Which would make sense, if Powerpuff Girls wasn't atrocious, disgusting sewage.

It also comes with some hilariously obvious flavours of stereotypes: southern hick pony, try-hard black pony, high-school cheerleader pony, rape victim pony, princess pony, dyke pony, and many, many more.

Edit: whyyyyyyyy

Really -_-? I think that's a really superficial way to look at the characters. Sure, they are easily-identifiable archetypes, and it would be easy to write them off just like that. However, one of the major themes of the show is that superficial impressions shouldn't dominate one's estimation of another person's worth. You call Rainbow Dash a "dyke", but I see her as a proud and loyal character with a great deal of personal strength and ambition. Admirable qualities that are rarely encouraged as acceptable qualities for a young girl to have. Yes, I did just assert that most cartoon shows aimed at girls imply that they shouldn't have any ambition.

One of the things I love about this show is that the characters are actually complete - they have real flaws that are actually plot relevant. In Rainbow Dash's case, her pride frequently hinders her judgment. It's very refreshing to see this in a children's TV show, where characters are usually divided into perfect, unrelatable heroines and comically evil villains.

The best qualities of this show are the excellent animation, superb voice acting, and hilarious sense of humor. A lot of the gags are genuinely funny. Actually, the main reason I like the show is because it pleasantly reminds me of the old Looney Tunes/Warner Bros. cartoons. It's got goofy slapstick and silly characters so a child would find it funny, but the writing is occasionally smart enough so as not to leave adults disinterested.

I'd give it a fair shake, at least.

Fully agreed. I never even watched Powerpuff Girls or Foster's Home, so I don't have any reason to use those as an excuse for my enjoyment of the show. It's just a well-written, fun show. It doesn't try to appeal to adults in the way that, say, Rocko's Modern Life or something did with underhanded "adult" references, it just respects it's target audience enough in a way that makes the show watchable and enjoyable for people outside the target demographic.

Also Elixir, I think it's a bit far to accuse the entire fanbase of being furries. While I'm sure they exist, I'm also quite confident that I myself am no furry, and neither are a majority of the people who enjoy the show. Obviously the show has been Rule 34'd on the internet like just about everything else, but I don't think a majority of the fanbase is out there for it. I also wonder why exactly you find pony avatars so egregiously offensive as to adblock them (I suppose this means you have mine blocked, lol). I guess my point is is that you seem to be out looking for the worst of the fanbase and judging all of them based on that.

Obviously the show isn't going to be to everyone's taste, but that's fine. I'm not going to demand you to watch more, but I do feel that you are being a bit cynical in your judgments of the show itself after one episode.

Eh, I probably ranted more than I should have, but whatever.

you guys have sold me on it. Recommend me a first episode to watch, because I don't want to start out on the worst one which is no doubt what would happen if I did this on my own.

And.. err.. I hate foreigners who shit on their adoptive countries. I had to listen to this twat today over lunch complain about how much he hates Japan, how predictable it is, how the people are all the same, the food is all terrible and expensive, theres nothing fun to do, etc... just go home, man. I mean yeah, there are things that get on my nerves too but it's still a great place to live and bring up a family. You could be in Mogadishu..

Even though they're not the best episodes and they have quite a different tone than the rest of the series (it almost makes the series look like it's gonna be power rangers with cute animated ponies  ), the first two episodes (it's a two-parter) are good to watch just so you get character introductions out of the way and know a bit about the character's personalities, which certainly helps later gags.

Episode 1: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JeJ6-gN0eB4
Episode 2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Kz80Uc_XTA

After that, I'd recommend any of these:

Episode 7, Dragonshy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PZ-3w295GMc
Episode 9, Bridle Gossip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GmS55Npp_fA
Episode 11, Winter Wrap Up: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z6GFajh3aWI (LOVE the song in this one, actually all the music in this show is spectacular)
Episode 16, Sonic Rainboom: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9DTGcuWRCpQ

And of course the rest of the series as well, but those ones are my personal standouts.

I tried to watch the first episode of My Little Pony Friendship is Magic some time ago and found the animation rash inducing (I mean the way stuff moves in there, not the Flash looks). That's just me, though; I'm allergic like that. At least the voice acting doesn't suck which seems to be a big step forward for the American cartoon industry. Reversely, in TMNT 2003 the animation (made in South Korea) was okay, but the voice acting made me wince. Let me know when they do both things right in one show.

When people say "I could care less"

stop and think about what you're saying. That does not make sense for the point you are trying to make. The correct thing to say would be, " I COULDN'T care less".

Ok - I watched the first two eps. while doing some other stuff. Not really my thing, but I can see the appeal. The show definitely doesn't pander to the lowest common denominator of kids and it is well animated and acted - But just not for me. I wouldn't begrudge anyone that does like it, though. It definitely harkens back to the more innocent cartoons of the 80s in that there's no fart or poop jokes, so I can respect that. Its wholesome and all, but nonetheless still a well written 20 minute commercial for toys.

... Also, its good to see that Sven isn't afraid letting people know he's a fan.

On a random whim I just decided to watch the first episode and i'm terrified to say, it wasn't half bad. I'm shocked I can identify with one of the characters as being a bit of a cynical bitch. Looks like they're finally making decent cartoons for kids again.

I thought the first episode is actually a poor representation of the series in a way. While I do recommend watching it to get a feel for the characters (like drunkninja24 mentioned) and to get the setup done, the whole "elements of harmony" and Nightmare Moon -business is completely forgotten about afterwards. The rest of the episodes are pretty good (with few stinkers) and some are downright hilarious and made me remember how awesome cartoons were back when I was a kid. It was a rather curious experience to find myself laughing with a stupid grin at this stuff.

I definitely think the pilot is great and I think not starting with it is bad, but it's definitely not representative of the show as a whole.

That's why I usually tell people to watch the first five episodes as a trial run - if you don't like it after Applebuck Season and Griffon the Brush-Off, you probably never will.

Eh, to be honest, I don't really see stuff like that pic as much different than people who cosplay and gather at anime conventions and such. I would never do it, personally, but I don't really hold any disdain for people coming together around a shared interest, even if it is a TV show.

What?

How about just enjoying the show instead of going Super Intellectual and trying to justify why a 20-something is watching it, or pretending they're buying Happy Meals for "their daughter" in order to get My Little Pony toys?

People have their hobbies, it doesn't necessarily indicate that they should be plastered everywhere to let others know. I buy figures; it doesn't mean I'll use avatars of them on every forum. I don't constantly talk about games or shmups or bomberman or cats or music or any of the other stuff I like.

By the way, you're more likely to find a furry if they have some sort of animal reference or "fursona" in their name. Like, "Sammy Fox" for instance. They tend to have half-human half-animal avatars which sub-humans use. Keep an eye out.

Sometimes when the moon and Earth are in some kind of significant cosmic alignment you and I are in absolute agreement. This is one of those times.

At a glance I can see that yes, it's well animated, and yes, not badly written. It's still a show about magical ponies, however, and even 'big kid' adults (like everyone on this forum) should know better than to spend valuable time on a pilgrimage to a show for little girls. As one of the youtube commenters noted:
I feel incredibly gay when I watch this
That should be a good enough reason to get on and do something more productive.
