I doubt Kojima would include Twin Snakes even if he could. That game would not sit well with fans of the original. Have you seen the Matrix-style effects? I recall one scene where Snake hops on top of a rocket and flips it around or something. The game update was nice, but I still prefer the PS1 version.

True. Still, Nintendo does have the rights, which wrap themselves around MGS1 and any future it has. I just can't understand why they would release MGS2 as an entry point for 360 users. It isn't going to make any sense.

As ridiculous as that shit is, there are other more severe problems that plague that turd of a game. Sticking in MGS2 capabilites in original MGS1 levels just didn't work; you can literally snipe all soldiers in a room from the stage's entrance, in most cases. Defeats the whole purpose of the original game.

I had MGS1 on PS1 and Twin Snakes on the Gamecube. MGS1 was one of my favourite PS1 games, so I would of liked to of seen what they could of done with an upgraded version for seventh generation consoles. Also I wonder if MGS2 and MGS3 will include the "Substance" and "Subsistence'" content?

EDIT:

The version of MGS3 that's included in the collection is the Subsistence version.

ZOE HD Collection will include the content of Anubis Special Edition.

Hopefully these newer HD collections will play in a correct, non-stretched aspect ratio. I learned my lesson from the God of War 1-2 HD collection, and will carefully research any future HD makeovers before I purchase.
God of War 1 and 2 were made with the 16x9 format in mind from the get go on the PS2 (and not stretched at all). When making a game in 16x9 they are left with the choice of what to do to the 4x3 users.

They could either:

A: Crop the the left and right and give 4x3 users a smaller play field to run around in
B: Letterbox it
C: Keep the 16x9 playfield and just open up the borders (black bars) to the background

They went with C, kept the gamefield open for 4x3 users and then opted to ditch the black bars and extend the view field. If you look online and research the developers are clear on the 16x9 is proper.

Street Fighter 4 dose the same thing. On a 4x3 it retains the 16x9 playfield but just opened the matting so there are no black bars. But it most certainly is designed to be played and viewed in 16x9 and forces 4x3 users to play it in 16x9 (it just removes the black bars and opens the view further up and down).

God of War 1 and 2 BOTH had the same proper view in 16x9 as the PS2 versions and the PS3 version does as well.

It's the same thing with Pan and Scan version of movies versus letter boxed movies. A lot of pan and scan versions of movies actually do show MORE picture to the top and bottom then their letter boxed version. A lot of films are matted and they "lift" the mat for the pan and scan. Independence Day is one example... the pan and scan version (4x3) shows more on the top and bottom than the letter boxed version. But it is most assured not the correct or intended viewing field.

Opening up the mat is just doing 4x3 owners a favor and not forcing black bars on their set. But 16x9 users are getting the picture the correct way. There are other next gen games that do the same thing in 4x3... they don't force the black bars on you in 4x3 they just open the matting. There are alot that force the black bars in 4x3 sets also though.
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

Oh is that what the issue was?

Every time I booted up the game, I saw the stretchy button icons and menus, boxy Kratos face on the GoW1 title screen, and wide-ish enemys on the first boat stage. Perhaps it's just the way the character designs are made, but it certainly does a good job of giving the illusion that it's stretched. Next I'd spend a half hour searching the menus and internet for a way to fix it, only to get bogged down in unrelated topics and misleading fanboy posts and never finding a concrete answer. Finally I'd give up and shelf it.

If it's just the UI thats wrong, they really should have taken whatever effort would have been necessary to fix the UI instead of pushing it out the door. It would have prevented a lot of misinformation on the web, not to mention saved me a lot of time.

MGS2 doesn't make sense regardless. I'd rather skin my knuckles with a cheese grater than have to play through that drivel again.

The fact there's no MGS1 makes this a failed collection.

Looks like the the "Metal Gear Solid" collection is going to cost $49.99 in North America. It also has a current release date of the 29th of November according to Gamestop.

UPDATE

As Metal gear Solid 3: Subsistence is included in the collection both Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2 (MSX versions) will be available. So the Western release of the collection will include MG1, MG2, MGS2, MGS3 and MG:PW.

The Japanese version will include a download code for the PSN version of Metal Gear Solid. Also the Japanese version of Metal gear Solid 2 will have Japanese voice acting. Peace Walker is not included in the collection of the Japanese release.

Well, what do you guys think of this? I got mine in today, and I am quite pleased with it.

The graphics for 2 and 3 look about as good as they can. Very smooth.

Peace Walker's graphics have some rough textures, here and there. It definitely doesn't look as good as the GOW PSP Collection. But it does look nice, and the new control scheme is....well, it's welcome. I'm also very curious what some PS3 owners think of PW, since most folks don't own a PSP.

Anyone else got their hands on this?

I've never played Peace Walker before and I'm finding it quite nice so far. I think the many control options are helpful. I might watch the MGS2 intro sequence in HD but that's as far as I'm willing to go, but 3 might tempt me back if the control scheme options are the same (haven't tried it yet.)

I thought you might like it. It's not my favorite one, because it's missing some cool story moments, that the others ones have....however, if you've been driven crazy by aforementioned story moments, this game will help you fall for MGS again. Just pure gameplay.

Part 3 is my favorite, and you should give it a shot...but really keep in mind, that the game is story brickwalled for the first hour or so. I had heard that the game was less on story than part 2, so I rented it. I remember sitting there for about and hour, and remembering playing about 10 minutes. So, I didn't care, and didn't think about it for a long time.
Now, it really does tone down on the the story. The codec calls are WAY less frequent, and are FAR shorter, than part 2. It probably has less codec calls than MGS. But you have to get through the first hour or so. Once you get to the James Bond style opener, you have a bit more of that, but then it really opens up. It's kind of surprising.

I've played 3 before, and yeah, the first hour is a complete pain in the ass. But they haven't edited anything out of the HD version have they? (Wishful thinking: MGS gets an edit!)

Peace Walker is good. It's not without story, but it's not so overbearing and works well on the PS3. I think I might hold out playing through it any further as I need a new portable game to get into and it helps my PSP out of retirement.

Apparently, that hack and slash dream sequence you'd play if loading a game in jail was removed, as well as Snake vs. Monkey and Duel Mode.

Playing it on the PSP is....uh....a bit odd. I did, but I can't go back now.

Not that you stated otherwise, but I just thought it's worth mentioning that although Silicon Knights developed Twin Snakes, the cutscenes were all done by Konami.

Also, I read recently that Kojima was dissatisfied with the translation of MGS on PS1 since it wasn't close enough to the original text, so much so that a new team was hired to do a fresh translation for TS. Based on that, I would imagine TS would have been chosen to be included in this collection if it was possible.

Zone of the Enders patch is out, on PS3. ZOE2 plays great now. Really happy with the collection now.

Yeah, the patch worked some amazing wonders on ZOE2. Although ZOE1 is untouched. But no one really cares about that one anyway.
