No longer maintaining this board. Somebody else can take a crack at it, I don't have the time.

Re: Magmax
I do use to have this game before on my Famicom in the form of a multicart. I sold it unfortunately, but better late than never!

tinotormed - 425,700 - 6 - NES

The game looks endless whenever you play. The odd-numbered areas start with the grasslands and caverns while the even-numbered areas start with the water surface and ends with a robotic base. The boss is always the two-headed robo-dragon.

Re: Magmax
It is, and it is highly recommended for those who don't own an NES or Famicom. To say something about this game, completely underrated because most people dislike how the game is played. But I decided to go for score anyway.Samurai Fox wrote:...using Nestopia? That NTSC composite filter is amazing, isn't it?
Updating the first post to give a useful tip for the NES version.
BTW, the scoring goes by the following:
1) Destroying the mine deployer (the guy carrying 6 circles on land) and the cave stalagmites (y'know, the ceiling spike), and when ran over by an enemy, they give you 1k.
2) Picking up an electric taser allows you to destroy the blocks along the way on land. However, the consequence is that your speed goes slower when you pick it up.
I might upload to YT my best scoring runs later on.

tinotormed - 713,300 - 10 (Meigetsu) - NES
http://twitpic.com/566q1l
I am using Nestopia v1.39. I record the runs with Fraps and convert them to a wmv format. I only convert them to any specific format if someone requests it. BTW, area 7 and beyond seems to begin like a living hell, because there are a mix of enemies + some enemies that remain idle during area 1 and 2 now have something up their sleeve.
Oh, and any idea what Meigetsu means? Because when I reached area 7, I seem to see this in my score.
YT vids to be taken care of, because I only took my best stages I scored into, including the worst.
EDIT: YT vids are done.

Sorry, not gonna happen, as the recording feature sometimes hate me upon finishing the run because it desyncs.Samurai Fox wrote:I just realized that Nestopia has a recording feature similar to .inp recording in MAME. Maybe you can upload one sometime?

Re: Magmax
It's ok, because I don't have this problem on the other shmups I play. Oh well, until then, I'll be back when someone attempts to go after my score.
Re: Magmax
I don't know what that is. You mean a recording? I can post a screenshot - I am not gonna make a video of me playing Magmax. It probably won't be long before somebody beats it anyway, I wasn't tryong very hard.Samurai Fox wrote:Drum, still waiting on an .INP from you.

Magmax score thread should be stickied. This is essential shmupping action.
Is there an Equites score thread? Maybe I should make one.

This is because of the game play being weird. There are many other reasons why:Samurai Fox wrote:Magmax really isn't loved. ;_;

Re: Magmax
The game has two areas a loop actually (as noted by the enemy appearances).Samurai Fox wrote: ...the game loops after every four stages.
Because the first one has grassland and desert, then the enemies pause their appearance for 5 seconds, then comes the second one, with an ocean and base. So therefore, two areas. I might upload a longplay of it later on to show how they appear.

Re: Magmax
You can say that again. MARP (Mame Action Replay Page) has noticed a player scoring 876,400. I'll be checking in once I am done with the NES version.Drum wrote: ...It probably won't be long before somebody beats it anyway, I wasn't trying very hard.

Re: Magmax
HHHHHUUUUUUGGGEEEE improvement, yeah!
tinotormed - 1,522,500 - Area 21 (Meigetsu) - NES
http://twitpic.com/5e86wp
NO savestates, NO scoring tricks, NO emulation crap, NO nada. I use my human skills to get through this obscurity for 2 hours.
A short clip of Area 21 (where I died) is here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MBbNydT_Vg8
I can't make the rest of this video for now because it's too long. I kept pausing becuase I kept thinking if I could still do it or not.
Since no one would be able to play this game because of this underrated obscurity, I decided to make the record!
The 21-area longplay is to be encoded now. It will be put on YT later on.
EDIT: The 3-part longplay is right here:

Wanted to give this game a try after 24 years.
Also had this on a multicard back then.

cocoron - 1.855.000 - 20th loop (NES )
After I got the hang of this game, it seems like I can play it forever. I killed myself after around 3,5 hours...
The only dangerous part for me is the undergound section of the Sea-Area.
Also found out, if you destroy the surface buildings with regular shots instead of the "Energy Sword" when fully upgraded, you'll get a Nichibutsu icon, which is worth another 1000 points.
