Batsugun (Normal and Special) [Toaplan, 1993/1996]

Post by moozooh »

Mod edit. Thread locked. New thread can be found here. spadgy

Batsugun was the last shooting game released by Toaplan, and also one of the greatest shmups of its time. A lot of its elements found new life in DonPachi series by Cave, a company partly consisting of Toaplan's former staff. The scoring system is rather simple and is largely based on picking up medals in no particular fashion while not dying. Watch out for secrets, though!

Strategy threads:
- ST: BATSUGUN!;
- RQ: Batsugun Level 2 Boss.

Rules:
- single credit, no continues;
- autofire is allowed.

Tables truncated at 50 entries. You don't have to specify whether you are playing PCB, MAME, or Saturn port, but you may if you want.

Score submission format:

Code: Select all

version - name - score - stage - ship
Example:

Code: Select all

Special - John Doe - 3,623,230 - 5 - B (Beltiana)

I think Aquas is in the wrong place.

Regarding the diffrent versions I think it would be intresting if people mentioned which one they play. The saturn version is slightly harder than the arcade/mame because of the lack of slowdown. Not that it makes any major diffrence gameplay-wise though.

Good call. Corrected this and 3 or 4 more misplacements.

Do any of you think I should make separate boards for different types? Then again the potential score difference is marginal (it's just that type B is the most convenient), so I guess it's not warranted.

Welcome to the board! I added your name to the table as "andsuchisdeath" since you didn't specify otherwise.

Special - BIL - 14,105,050 - 7 - Type B (Beltiana)

Just a tentative score. First run after getting the Jupiter trick down, somewhat. Died clumsily setting it up with seven bombs in stock :[. Will hopefully add an easy five million onto this, and proceed from there! Second loop seemed pretty manageable, once I realised point-blanking enemies seals suicide bullets.

Thanks. :) Managed to hit Jupiter with eight bombs this time, and five or so in Loop 2, for a fairly substantial boost.

Special - BIL - 25,015,220 - 9 - Type B (Beltiana)

I feel like I could crack Loop 2 for sure... doubt Loop 3 will go down so easily, to say nothing of 4 (even if it's only two stages). Will wait until I make another significant gain before posting again. This'll be my shooter of choice for now, the balance of scoring tricks and foot-through-the-floor blasting is absolutely superb.

Finally!!! I almost got to Ground of the Galaxy without dying, but I relaxed for a second because I thought the last enemy had passed, haha. Then only died once against him. I love this game!

I have a decent Special Version score but I'd like to improve it before posting.

Wow, that's a really high score right there. INP's on you! It doesn't have to be 74 million, but at least beat Icarus's score with it.
