Hi,
Important to an enjoyable shmup experience is the weaponry available.
Otherwise meticulously designed games fail to entertain me for a considerable amount of time for this reason - Thunderforce IV, i'm looking at you. (Or to tick off the anal - 'Lightening Force' (sic), heh heh)
Axelay's weapons system is flawed too - a second loop with everything available from the start would have remedied it's linearity (although the Wind Laser that you get before the last level probably hasn't been programmed for the vertical levels)
And why use anything else than the Macro Missiles and the Round Vulcan anyway.
It's also why I keep coming back to Seibu stuff - nobody does missiles better than Seibu.

Coincidentally I was just thinking yesterday about how surprisingly good the missile system feels in Last Resort, when you get 6 simultaneous fast-firing homing missiles enabled on your ship. They really kick ass...PooshhMao wrote:nobody does missiles better than Seibu.
