Messed up stage 6 a little, but everything else went well. (also I'm not sure if this formatting is correct)

Managed to get the sword and the rocket to 2 dan, and I even S-ranked stage 6. It might be possible to get a third weapon to 2 dan, perhaps if I grabbed a bomb on stage 4 instead of keeping the laser and kept it for the rest of the game.

I might upload the replay to youtube later tonight.

Anyway, I'm done with normal for now. I'd like to move on to hard, but not having your scores uploaded is kind of discouraging. Maybe I'll just go for a quick clear.

Does Hard have any score bonuses besides the last boss?

First 1cc of this game and a crappy survival run where I got hit by so much stupid stuff. Oh well, now I can focus on trying to learn how level all the weapons properly since that's out of the way.

Here's the video of my 15 million run. Messed up the 2nd boss and killed him too quick, and one silly hit on stage 4. It went about as good as I could hope otherwise.

I failed to 1-dan Bomb and Direction but I'm pretty happy with this score.

So, do you guys think the scores for this game are already maxed out at around 15 mils?
Nice game overall but it's a bit disappointing that the scoresystem doesn't provide much motivation in the long term.

Indirectly, I think the enemy mechs give out a little more "experience" to weapons? If so that could allow for a couple more dans (and the tlb will 1dan your sword anyway)

Dunno, it can still be rewarding even though the scoring isn't exponential or anything. one more dan on normal should be possible and milking stage 6 boss could be improved at least.

Awesome replay, going to have to completely rethink my weapon usage after that, haha. BTW, why didn't you use bomb on the large mechs in stage 6? Maybe you could have 1-dan it before the last boss.

In my run I dropped 100,000 by getting 2 A ranks, another 100,000-150,000 by not getting 2x on all the bosses. Some bosses could be finished off quicker, and there are more points to be had in the levels with the overdrive. I'm certain I could get at least one more weapon to 2-dan, so there's anothe 100,000.

I'm guessing the scores will max out around 15.5 million, maybe 15.6 if you can 2-dan 4 weapons. Maybe someone will surprise us and discover something we aren't aware of yet, like perhaps there's a no-miss bonus.

Can you hit them with the bomb when you're between their arms? I've never tried that. You can easily get the bomb to 1-dan before the final boss if you pick it up in stage 4 and use it on the boss, then keep it for the rest of the game. I'm not sure if the final boss would be enough to get it to 2-dan though.

Yeah, you can let them push you around a bit anyway (you can even cause good damage with it on the last boss first form). And I pick up bomb at the start of st5, have it 1dan at the start of st6 (bombing the mechs). It's probably close to 2dan if you hit both the st4 boss clones and the last boss (+laser drones) after that?

You could use it on that last enemy before the final boss too, actually (if you kill those two lines of robots fast enough). It has a base value of 20,000 points.

I did some tests regarding stage ranks on stage one because I couldn't figure out why I didn't get an S rank on stage 5. When I only pick up 3 weapons it seems like I can only get an A rank, but if I pick up 4 I get an S rank (I only picked up 3 weapons in stage 5 on that run). I'm guessing it's a mix of percent of enemies destroyed, weapon pickups and hits.

I made a few pics of the weapon upgrade popups so everyone who isn't fluent in reading Katakana knows what they mean.
Weapons count down from 10-kyo to 1-kyo. After 1-kyo you will get 1-dan, then it will count up to 10-dan.

Is this game pretty fun? I've been itching to download it all this week but I don't want to snag it unless its worth the investment.
I have so many other STGs I need to get through.

I think it's the best STG of the year right after Muchi Pink Double Pack. Not even interested in Bullet Soul or Eschatos myself.

Argh, I was testing a new route and managed to no miss the game, but my weapon levels were all over the place. Now I've found a way to get 4 weapons to 2 dan yet I can't seem to beat the game without getting hit at least once on each of the last 3 stages.

So I've been playing Strania for a bit the last few days in between Ketsui runs on my cab and I was wondering if someone can clue me in on the scoring. I'm really digging the game so far but I've only been playing it in the most simplistic manner (albeit with lots of double swordage!!)

You want to use all the weapons evenly. Weapons level up the more points you get with them, and you get points for leveling them up. Every weapon you hit an enemy with will get points when that enemy is destroyed.

The points are shared between the weapons, so a boss worth 150,000 that was hit with 3 weapons will give each weapon 50,000 points. I'm not 100% certain that's how it works, but it's the only way it makes sense from my experience.

Great run, two dumb hits on the stage 5 boss cost me 70,000 though. Will those Japanese players let me have the record for more than 12 hours for once?

EDIT

You know what? After some tests I've decided I have no clue how the experience system works. Destroying 57 robots for 57,000 points with just a laser during the stage 2 boss will get the laser to 1 dan. Just destroying the boss for 100,000 points will only get the laser to 4 kyu. Must be some hidden experience value or something.

I can't even access leaderboards anymore. My xbox now freezes. Didn't happen prior to 2 weeks ago. I just had a 14.2m and left 400k on the table. Dont think I care enough to go into 15s. But at the same time i wasn't happy with that run. I too don't really understand the ranking system.

You would think going into o/d would increase xp but it doesn't seem to. Not only that I have noticed weapons leveling up quicker on certain enemies and at times when sharing xp the weapon doesnt level as like it should. Oh well.

Yeah, I don't get how it works. I was hoping it was just points and I could do some quick math to help me figure out how to get more weapons to 2 dan.

nice job monkey. maybe you can sleep easy tonight and wake up to have your score still at 1...until you look again.

Yeah i was trying to compute all these "formula's" on what best weapons to use on each boss (ultimately getting s-ranks, as well) and all that jazz to have it unravel when rankings didn't work as i'd hoped/

There's the video of my current record. I doubt I'll beat that anytime soon, and I don't think I'll try unless I can come up with a way to get more weapons to 2 dan. I no missed and 2x all but one boss. The only other points I could get are from boss times and better use of the overdrive on the stages.
