Looking for an old late 80ies top down run and gun shmup!

Post by jgt4242 »

I used to play an old arcade shmup when I was young sometime circa 87-88-89.
I don't remember a lot of thing and I don't remember the name and that's why I can't
find it easily. Here's what I still remember :

- You were on foot and it was a top down shooter.
- You character had a bazooka/ big cannon/ big gun.
- It didn't had a military style like commando. It was more a fantasy or sci-fy style.
- If you waited too much or took too much time to defeat ennemies ghost/spirit like things would
pass by the screen and they were really hard to kill (invincible?).
- The first booss was a a really big monster with a ball and chain.

I've been looking for this game for like...15 years maybe now it's crazy lol.
Someone can tell me what it could be?
Thank you.

It's not Time Soldiers, BUT it's a lot like it...almost downright
to the characteré It is so much alike that I starting to wonder
if there was illegal mod of the game ou there lol.

The thing I must really emphasize on is that the screen was not
automatically scrolling and if you took too much you time a wave
of really nifty ghost-like monsters would fly by the screen I remember
hating that a lot when I was young.

But yeah I almost had an attack when I saw the minotaur with
the ball and chain in Time Soldiers lol. Also in th egame I search
I'm pretty sure there was no human enemies...

Sorry for the double post but after reading more information
and seeing more vid of Time Soldiers I thing it could actually be
the game I was looking for.

It's strange because I remember a darker toned game but then
again it's been so long that my memory may be messing things up.

One thing I'm sure of is the wave of monsters passing by when you
take too long I mentioned in my earlier post. Can someone confirm
those to me?

Or maybe is there really a game that is a big lot like Time Soldiers lol?

hanks for all the help I REALLY apreciate it!

I believe I know what you're talking about. You're talking about Devil World / Majuu No Oukoku / Dark Adventure, aren't you?

...yes, the game had THREE titles.
".... that would be rubbish."

it has to be either Ikari 2 or 3. I will say it's more like Ikari2, which came out around 1988 and 1989. The first one had a military theme, whereas the sequel was completey revamped and had a sci fi feel to the gameplay and settings.
