For what it's worth, I'd love an english transcription of the ending(s) to ketsui as well seeing as the stuff is written in a stylistic kanji that flies by quickly which makes it hard to read even if you are remotely familiar with the langauge. That and it's probably my favorite shmup.

On a more related note, how widespread are fan translations for ROMs? I found out about the Gleylancer one, which made the cutscenes worthwhile, but do similar things go down for Japanese only arcade ROMs for MAME?

Ok so a dear friend of mine knows japanese rather well, and has helped me to translate both endings of Ketsui (Thank you kindly theWertle!). This is probably my favorite shmup, but I am going to put this info and any other things I can get my hands on into a new wiki project I'll be hopefully starting soon (Hint Hint, Nudge Nudge: http://shmups.system11.org/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=35796 . Please support this idea if you want more of this kind of stuff!)
There is ALOT of info in the ending that isn't explicitly stated anywhere else (save for the cave bio website and possibly the xbox 360 manual and insanity doom dvds). I have access to all of this info and as part of the shmup wiki project for ketsui will be translating/scanning all of these resources so that any english speaker will have access to anything ketsui (this includes strats, walkthroughs, achievements, you name it). Hopefully with time other shmups will be given the same care and attention as well.
There are two unique endings and as far as I know no extra ending except for the credits that scroll after you beat the game defeating the True Last Boss Evacannia Doom. Ending A focuses on Evansman for a bit, and then talks about the relationship between Yume and Alice (they are apparently half-siblings with different dads). Ending B focuses on Steele and then the second part of the ending is the same as the first. So, without further ado, the translated endings to Ketsui.
Ship A:

Evansmann was thinking about the person he loves.

At the completion of their mission, win or lose, they were ordered to suicide themselves. The endings reflect the final thoughts of the pilots involved before their deaths. Obviously there is much more involved in the story than just simply this, but this is a synopsis.

Thanks for posting that xybur, gotta admit the ending for Type-A caught me off guard :V It did get me thinking though, I wonder whatever happened to Bond and Dyne after Ibara? My knowledge of the story doesn't go much further than the translation on world-of-arcades.

Wow, Lloyd is a dick. Steele is obviously the more noble man. I don't know if it's because I'm tired, but I don't understand the whole story with Alice and Yume, I think mainly because I'm tired and the wording. Also, how would Type-B be the same if it was Yume that died and not Alice. Does Yume realize the reasons of Alice's actions before he dies? What is Alice's take?
But anyways, I'm probably asking too much. Thank you so much for the translation as it brings a fulfilling closure to the story for me.

I've only recently started getting into Ibara (Pink Sweets at that) so I'm not terribly familiar with the back story. I know the girls were bosses in the first game, and then in PS you get to play as them. It will get covered eventually though seeing as I'm personally going to focus on gathering data for CAVE games first and filling things out accordingly. I hope people who are more familiar with the other games will fill the holes out. And I'll do what I can to translate what hasn't been looked at.

If and when I get done with Ketsui, I'm going to next focus on both Mushi games. I spent considerably more time on Futari and I've done some preliminary translation work on it already. Thankfully the endings are very simple, and they're a continuation of the events of the first game. (First game had you fight and kill your older brother, second game is the jealous queen. And then the ghost of your dead older brother comes back and lets you know everything okay). Yeah, Ketsui is mostly a story about the relationship between the two co-pilots than it is about the main pilots, surprisingly. Alice, 23, is the older brother, Yume, 18, is the younger. They share a mom but different dads. In the story, BOTH ships with both sets of pilots were sent on the mission to Evac Industry. You get to see either Evansman's or Steele's ending depending on which main pilot you pick, but for the purposes of the overarching storyline, the ending spends the most time on the relationship between Yume and Alice.
Alice knew that in order to keep his brother alive, he had to leave his hometown secretly to enlist. The implication seems to be that Yume looked up to Alice, and if Yume knew that Alice was going to leave, Yume also would have wanted to follow his brother. Alice left without saying anything, but his plan backfired because as soon as Yume found out, he enlisted anyway.
Alice's character is that he mostly stays quiet and follows orders to the letter. Mostly because he doesn't want to explain to people about his brother. Yume misinterpreted why his brother left, and on top of that heard stories that Alice was a spy for the army (which can be construed to imply that spying and deceit is generally frowned upon, could be a Japanese thing?). So, Yume enlisted to get back at his brother and prove he could be better than him. That was his motivation, to become the best pilot ever and get revenge. Once Yume got in and realized the real purpose of Alice's enlisting, he understood what his brother was actually trying to do which was to stop EI, save the world, and keep Yume safe. Alice stole EI's new ship technology (which is why in stage 5 you fight the clone ships). The technology that Alice stole while spying created the ships you fly in the game.
Obviously, Yume realizes that a bit too late. While Alice is dying he tells Yume that it's okay if he himself dies, Alice just didn't want Yume to die. Yume thanks his brother, but as stated earlier the mission orders were specifically that every pilot has to suicide at the end, regardless of victory or defeat. Maybe the ending is written in such a way that makes you think "Maybe Yume is okay, since Alice's wish was for him to be safe" but the last slide clearly states that when EI was stopped, news spread and the army attributed it to an accident at the EI manufacturing plant. So that means the mission was a relative success because no one except the parties involved knew what actually happened.
Like the original Donpachi and Dodonpachi, the actual story is pretty depressing. CAVE has a penchant for writing pretty somber and depressing storylines, haha.
Also I need to FINISH playing a full run of Ketsupachi before I can write about it. Trust me though, it's on the backburner. I bought the game so I'll be perusing through my instruction manual for any additional data on it.

If you can get decent, clear pictures of the screens, then sure. Ketsui was kind of an issue because the stylized font, the lack of time on screen, and the amount of detail (or lack thereof) of the kanji. But my friend, crafty as he is, found a website that had a bunch of transposed text to endings which made the translation a breeze. Since the ending to ketsupachi hasn't been added on there yet, some clear screen shots would definitely help.

Oh you're gonna get a kick out of the ending for Ketsuipachi. It has plenty to do with the pronunciation of things.
Granted, the overall story arc and motivations are relatively vague, I'm working out some translation kinks with my friend to ensure we're getting the right implication, but I don't think you'll be disappointed.

Ok, well, I'm happy with what we have here but it's still admittedly a little vague. I guess the lack of info setting up the reason for the mission in the first place is what I'm missing. I'm going to have to run through the manual later with my friend and see if there is any info in there that helps explain it but it seems like the book basically just tells you how to play.

Also, if you didn't get it: most people were probably pronouncing the name of the boss like "HAI-VAC" (like the vac in vacuum), Based on how pronunciation works in japanese though, C is typically pronounced like the character Shii in japanese. I've seen some an example of that on a music game called beatmania IIDX (i.e. the sound producer "yoshitaka" has written his name before as 4ctaka -> 4-(yo)-C(shii)-taka).
See what's going on here? The implication is if you take HIVAC (which is definitely a reference to EVAC/Evacannia Doom since they specifically mentioned EI in the ending of this game), and pronounce it differently, using japanese conventions you get: HEE VAH SHII, which is an obvious reference to Hibachi.
So speculation:
The thing I'm not sure about exactly is whether or not what just happened is actually "real" or if it was a simulation for these particular pilots (I think they're like women versions of the ketsui pilots honestly, haha). If you look closely, it looks like they're holding VR helmets in their hands. In ketsui, there were no helmets that the pilots wore. The operator mentions a simulation (which, if you want to get technical can be taken as a reference to the earliest of the Dodopachi games where at the end you discover you were actually sent on a mission killing your comrades for the sake of training yourself to be the best pilot) but it seems like maybe the operator was referring to what happened "historically" in Ketsui, the events of which became the basis of this "simulation" as well.
The pilots speak as if they were surprised to have found and fought HIVAC at the end, which is why I question whether or not this was "real" or a VR simulation that happened to have a piece of hidden code that manifested itself at the end. And they said the info on the ship was "lost" so it adds to the mystery of the situation.
We'll need some more background info on the actual premise of Ketsupachi to correctly get the implication of what was said in this ending, but I think this is enough to tide you guys over for now.

After their mission is a success, the founders of EVAC find the advanced technology of CAVE Weapons Co. in the rubble of the war (possibly many years later). They use this to their advantage and create their own weapons and switch the name around to EVAC, similar to what CyberDYNE does in the Terminator series.
Could this simulation have been the real thing? In Ender's Game, the main character believes that the aliens he's killing is all a simulation until the end where he learns it was real all along. Could it be the same here?
I'm probably putting too much thought into this, but I just find video game stories interesting. I mean, if you play a game a lot and love it, you kind of want to know everything about it. Thanks again for the translation.

Here is a revised translation given some context. I had my friend re read some of the phrases with different context and it helped clear some things up. Apparently this is in fact a virtual simulation ("and it was all just a dream...")
If you want to believe Ketsui was in the same continuity as Dodonpachi, this game is set in some DDP related (alternate?) reality, and the events of Ketsui happened years previous to this, which was the basis of this simulation that the pilots play through. The pilots might be "female counterparts" of Lloyd and Alice, since they don't look like themselves, and obviously they wouldn't be 1) Alive since they died at the end of Ketsui and 2) wouldn't be so far into the future talking about how this happened in the past.

So maybe the origin of Evaccania DOOM was that it was based off the prototype of Hibachi. Maybe EVAC Industry built DOOM from Hibachi a few years after, since the star date given you stated was a few years before the events of Ketsui? 2008 is when DFK happened (and ultimately when the original DDP happened as well). I don't think a difference of less than 50 years is "long, long ago in the past" but...
Not sure, the basis of DFK was that time travel was going on, so maybe temporal rifts are the explanation for all of this.

When you say the basis of the simulation, do you mean the Ketsui mission or the Daifukkatsu mission? The game is basically Daifukkatsu with Ketsui mechanics.
Also, I think you are right that they are female counterparts. Lloyd looks really feminine, they're both wearing V-necks (usually only women wear those), I can sort of see some breasts, and everything else in the game is girly. At least Alice's name actually works here. I always hoped that it was just a misspelling of Alec or Alex, unless Alice is a manly name in Japan.
