I suspect that the achievements/trophies are generally tough enough that most people aren't going to bother with them anyway e.g. on trueachievements.com, 9 of the achievements have been earned by less than 15% of people who have the game (on that site at least). The achievement/trophy whores will probably be giving this game a wide berth...

I made it to Stage 5 in Rising, Stage 2 in Arcade.
I'm getting better, and I'm confident with practice and a really good partner, I could WRECK this game.
Fantastic music. Also, I love that screen in the opening of the enemy commander leading the huge army against four people.
Epic stuff.

Arc System's penchant for using cool FMV anime intros is legendary...sure fits quite well with this new-fangled HC: U game indeed.
Hmmm, if Arc System were to handcraft a modern-day high-res formatted shmup title, would they use a cool FMV anime intro as well?
PC Engine Fan X! ^_~

The final boss is such nonsense.
Beyond that, I disagree; I feel this game is NOT as hard as Hard Corps.
It has some ridiculous WTF moments, but only the first time. Hard Corps never got much easier, even a decade+ later.
Very solid game, of course. I rank them as such:
Contra 4 > Uprising > Hard Corps > Alien Wars > Shattered Soldier > NES games

Well now that Uprising is up on european PSN (my region). I'm thinking of giving it a shot in may when I will have cash for the PSN card. So far my contra like list went that way:cj iwakura wrote:The final boss is such nonsense.

It may sound like a heresy to downrank contra 4. However I never ever can get used to the dual screen gameplay

Got the 1CC with Bahamut, also the 20 life achievement
Don't know if I'll go for the 1LC. I can make it to stage 7.5 no miss but the last 1.5 stages are really tough.

Re: Hard Corps: Uprising(successor to Contra HC)- XBLA
I really was not impressed by Shattered Soldier. Hardly a bad game, but it felt too grim dark, even for Contra.
Great music and design, gameplay was just too full of cheap deaths, and I hated the percentage unlock requirements for new stages.
Contra 4 rewards skill. Uprising does as well, but there's still quite a few 'you'll never predict it' gimmicks on a first try.
Also, Contra 4's final stage is pure craziness. I loved it. I'm sure I'll get the same feeling out of Uprising if I go for an Arcade clear.
Okay, maybe I'm being a little cruel to the NES games, but they haven't held up too well, I don't think. (I played them again via Contra 4's museum.)

Stick at it. You're downplaying. No reason you can't do it.antares wrote:Got the 1CC with Bahamut, also the 20 life achievement

haha skykid. I did like contra 4. I used to own it on the DS but now maybe i'll just use that zoom program and nogba so i can play it on a screen size bigger than my penis. Wait.
Re: Hard Corps: Uprising(successor to Contra HC)- XBLA
Kommander of Game Kommander can beat the game in under 24 minutes, so forget about all that too slow/long business.
The NES games hold up better than their arcade counterparts. The only thing that sucks about the first game is that the last stage is the easiet.NES games, but they haven't held up too well

Probably only took 1000 hours to get it down to half of one, too.JoshF wrote:Kommander of Game Kommander can beat the game in under 24 minutes, so forget about all that too slow/long business.
Re: Hard Corps: Uprising(successor to Contra HC)- XBLA
If you dedicate a little more time you too can be a time dominator. I caught a little of his stream of stage 2 and he used dodge moves on nearly everything.

TIF's times for stages 4 and 6, the game's two autoscrolling stages, are 6:48 and 5:46 respectively. The only way those stages can be done faster are with better boss tactics. Even assuming this Kommander person has better tactics for them, that still gives him only about 14 minutes to go through the rest of the game's six stages. And some of those have short autoscrolling sections and mini-cutscenes, maybe amounting to a minute or so altogether. 24 minutes just doesn't seem possible.

Seems impossible even if he uses Sayuri.
Stages 3 and 8 have autoscrolling sections which both take 2 minutes + 11 minutes for stages 4 and 6 = 15 minutes. That gives him 9 minutes for the rest of the game which also has cutscenes all over the place like Ghegs mentioned. Not possible imo.

Actually he beat it in an hour, 24 minutes before the tweet I guess.

Re: Hard Corps: Uprising(successor to Contra HC)- XBLA
Yeah. Even though this seems to be debunked. Sayuri will only finish levels seconds faster and is slower on level 6 due to the 2nd to last boss encounter she can only use charge shots vs a level 3 laser or machine gun. Same with the first train boss. She can only use charge shots. I mean, i guess she could swipe but its risky.
Had i not died my time would have been just shy of 45.5x minutes. I dont think a time of 44 is out of the question with sayuri but i also do not think one could do better than 44 minutes. Maybe with leviathan but i havent seen him.
To add to antares she can finish level 1 anywhere from 3:35-3:40. So another 3.5 minutes added and its impossible, unless he found the secret warp zone in 1-1.

Anyone been playing with Leviathan? I bought him when he came out, but I can't be arsed at the moment. He seems to be a more expert-oriented character, having an odd bunch of unique moves and no extra health. I'll get around to trying him out properly at some point...

How many stages are in this game? I've gotten to stage 3 in Arcade (only played Rising for 5 minutes) and that takes like 20-30 minutes.

Eight stages. A full run can easily take an hour, even more if you're playing carefully. TodayIsForgotten's speedrun is ~45 minutes.

No worries. Don't feel compelled because i offered. If you can find someone else who wants to play coop and or needs achievements, go to them first.
