Siliconera seems to agree with that date.
I like how they didn't give a source. Oh well.

It looks OK, 800 points sounds about right, I'll probably buy it.

I'll buy this...or I would; if I had broadband currantly;0( No matter...lots to collect;0)

As for Borderdown, how many people have really played this? I reckon it's a great idea throwing that in a disk with Under Defeat, for $60/$70...looks great, reviews seem to back that up. Funni thing is...I REALLY didn't like Metal Black, it's the only shmup on the Taito 2 X360 pack, I didn't digg. However, I could see it had some great ideas, which I'm quite excited to see attempted again-your weapon level dependant on energy, for example. Give me seperate buttons for different attacks a.k.a; TF/RS...and I'm even happier. Reminds me of an awesome game from 1979 called; Star Raiders', in the way everything-engines, shields, weapons depletes energy. Of course, that game had damage, too...and wasn't really a shmup [but still a shooter-a kind of early superstarshipsim/shooter]. A TF style, too...I really miss TFlV on my MD. I always regret selling it;0(
If people don't like the aesthetics...reckon that's probably due to some of the drawings/design; but I really digg the 'Captain Scarlett' kind of Mysteron...ish look of your ship, crossed with 'Thunderbirds'.
For me...I'm most looking forward to BD, then UD [for it's solid, back-down-to-earth approach]...for most who've played those....I'm guessing they're most looking forward to SK.....which looks very super and interesting, too.

 Don't want to sound a like a smartass but those prices are paid by collectors who want a physical copy. Everyone else just downloads and burns it to a disc...still a market there?
bcass wrote:Graphically, it looks amateur, which is surprising given that it comes from the company who brought us Border Down.
Seems to be a matter of taste. I'm a sucker for all kinds of mecha anime and think Strania looks very good so far.

Cave doesn't seem to share your pessimism since they already announced an original non-shmup title and a port of dangun.

To answer your question [not exactly sugar-coated with charm, and yes, I read your reply in the 'introduce yourself] bit]; people were talking about BD/UD before on this thread...they're both by the same company even, I understand. Not much of a tangent...and what's wrong with tangents anyway? Some of us, dare I say some of the more creative ones...think in tangents. It's a part of being intellectually flexible. You go off on a tangent...you come back on topic; with new ideas. The connections, I would have thought; were obvious...

Nothing really wrong with tangents. I am one of those people too who think a lot in tangents, but I have found out throughout my life that it can confuse the shit out of people who don't. And I found it to be polite to try and stay focused on what the discussion is about instead of going off on tangents whenever I feel like it. Sometimes I still do of course.

But you can not everyone to read every thread they are posting in fully.

That and Radiant Silvergun. If it can capture the quality of either of those games, this should be good.

In which case you could ask why Treasure are releasing Radiant Silvergun on XBLA. I think most people can clearly see that the style of Border Down has a much wider/more mass-market accessible appeal than Strania.

I like those things too, but can clearly see that it's still a bit ugly.

Like I said - the service is full of companies who gave up after one or two releases. Let's see if they keep releasing stuff on there a year from now.

Except that Radiant Silvergun is the first in a "trilogy" which includes Ikaruga, the most critically celebrated scrolling shooter of all time.

Also Radiant Silvergun is one of those "fabled" games that everyone gamer's heard about, while Border Down is... Border Down. Not sure that anybody outside of diehard shooter fans has ever heard of it.

This trailer is actually pretty slick, the music is kind of blowing me away. I'll gladly spend 800 points for a full game of yack music :p

Edit: Nevermind! Just found out it isn't yack at all, had me fooled :P Doesn't change my opinion on the music, being mistaken for yack is a compliment if I ever heard one.

So critically acclaimed that Treasure haven't released an XBLA game in almost three years!

...and yet they're back with 2 titles for this year
This is exactly what I meant...many people skipped Ikaruga xbla because they already had their share on the DC or the Gamecube. With RS it's different, not only is it seen by many as the holy grail of shmups but it's also one of those games people talk about without ever having played it since the system it was published on was never very popular in western territories.

Well, I've lost track of what we're even arguing about now. All I know is that this new game looks ugly and will probably flop, and that Border Down would have been a safer bet in terms of mass-market appeal and sales.

I like it and I think it's great to see a game in English again from the creators of G.Darius. This might force me to finally get an X-Bawks.

Hmm not too impressed by the overall look of the game. Nothing really catches me, not even artistically. But if this game can at least remind me of Zone of the Enders 2 in gameplay, I'll buy it.

I was watching the trailer and it seemed like the ship could rotate its firing direction independent of the direction that it's moving. Does this mean it has been designed to be played with two sticks? (e.g. 360 pad rather than arcade stick)

No, it isn't. Why don't you just check out the english description of the controls on the official site?

The XBLA marketplace listing for Strania went up today. The second preview video (now in English) is available for download.

Surely that should be 'stellar'? Perhaps they're trying to appeal to the UK's "lad" demographic.

Stella is Latin for 'star'.
