Recommendations for xbox

Post by Elixir »

From the very first minute of it's release, I've hated the xbox. So what do you do when you hate something? You buy it, and exploit the hell out of it.

What games do you recommend for xbox? I've "bought" NFSU, Halo, Panza Orta, JSR: F, Black Stone, Dynasty Warriors 4, Fable, Project Zero, Toejam and Earl 3 and probably something else I'm forgetting - and if I'm forgetting, it must be pretty bad.

I haven't managed to play NFSU or Orta yet. But, as you can see, a large portion of the above games listed aren't good. I've seen Otagi(or something of the likes) at my local Video Ezy and I've been meaning to rent it, but after having the painful experience of Black Stone, the gauntlet-clone, and Fable, the overrated growth game, I'm a little hesitant when it comes to 3D RPGs/games.

Otogi is highly recommended. Graphically, it's one of the most beautiful games for the Box, and has great voice acting in both english and japanese. And you get to destroy a lot of crap up.

Morrowind is fantastic, but somehow I get the feeling you'd hate it. It definitely doesn't make anything easy for the player.

Play Orta. Not half the game Zwei was, but still a fantastic rail shooter.

Ninja Gaiden is damn good if you play it at the hardest difficulty possible.

Otogi's nifty.

Outrun 2 is great if you like that kind of thing.

Otogi's hardly an RPG. It does have some character development to it, but it's really pretty much a hack-and-slash, with no shortage of destructible objects. The two Otogi games are some of my favorites on the XBox.

Explain. I have both of these games and Zwei saw two playthroughs while Orta saw eight....I must be missing something.

Has the best port of 3rd strike to any console.

That single game could keep you busy for probably years.

the ps2 version has a problem with some move of Urien's I think...Dreamcast version has input lag on parries.

These won't be a problem if you're going for the owning-games-just-to-own-them thing. If you want to play it though, you should go with xbox or pcb

Project Racing Gotham is a fantastic racer, and you can see the building where I live in one of the Edinburgh tracks. There's a great free shooter in there also, called Geometry Wars.
Oddworld Strangers Wrath, is one of the finest games to be released in this generation of games as well. Definately up there with Beyond Good & Evil, Ico, God Of War, Resi 4, Disgaea etc. Stunning game.

The ps2 version is fine (other than the filters applied...). The Dreamcast is the culprit because it uses the CPS3 Version 2 which removed Uriens unblockables and then it has input lag.

Two games I'm looking at buying before I even get an Xbox:

Deathrow: http://www.gamerankings.com/htmlpages2/560434.asp
Oddworld - Stranger's Wrath: http://www.gamerankings.com/htmlpages2/915256.asp

Both come insanely highly recommended and aren't that expensive right now. Already have Orta and Spikeout, and both Otogi games are on my hitlist of stuff to pick up before I get an Xbox as well.

I felt that everything added to the game (switching forms, changing speeds) took away from it. It adds too much stuff to the mix.

I concur zwei is the better game obviously the presentation of the xbox game is superior but I prefer the art in zwei, final boss battle rocked love the guardian dragon music.

The dragons in orta are ugly, compared to the perfection of solo wing from the first 2 games and the final true form in saga.

Deathrow is really good. Essentially it's a futuristic sports game that has shades of NFL Blitz and TRON. Your objective in the game is to score goals by throwing a disc through a hoop. You get the usual motley crew of teammates(And teams for that matter..you'll play against Ninjas, Convicts, Police Officers, etc). This game is competent enough as a pure sports game but it becomes a real hoot when the combat comes into play. You can do all sorts of nasty things to your opponents like backbreaking, judo-tossing, kicks that send them flying across the arena. With enough damage you can cripple opposing players and put them out of the match.

The Career mode is also pretty neat as between matches you can get sponsored and use your prize winnings to upgrade your team.(Although there's some fun and pain thrown in there as your players can be busted for sleeping with the daughters of the sponsor..forcing you to pay a hefty settlement fee...along with other random occurences).

Oh and the game supports Custom Soundtrack.

I'll throw in Riddick, Beyond Good & Evil, Oddworld Stranger's Wrath, Dead or Alive Xtreme Volleyball(lolz), Spiderman 2, and Gunvalkyrie(Very steep learning curve but it's good).

You can also get Jet Set Radio Future and Sega GT 2002 doublepack for mere pennies at most places. JSRF is still imo one of the best Xbox games around.

Gunvalkyrie, Jet Set Radio Future, Panzer Dragoon Orta, Outrun 2, Street Fighter Anniversary, Fight Night Round 2, Star Wars Battlefront, Burnout 3, Otogi (both), Capcom Vs. Snk 2 EO, Megaman Anniversary, Phantom Dust, Guilty Gear XX: Reload, Puyo Pop Fever..to name a few.

Also check out Metal Slug 3. Slowdown was removed for this port and there is xbox live scoreboard support.

I probable play this the most out of all my xbox games.

I am highly considering Alien Hominid, but I don't know if it's worth getting it for xbox when it's out on PS2.

In most cases, the Xbox version of a game is the best.

With that said, they'll probably be indistinguishable, so just choose based on your favorite controller. Personally I prefer the Xbox for 2D games since the dpad doesn't kill my thumb.

Well, I did rent Alien Hominid. I can't play it because my lazer's decided to fail at life(GOOD JOB, MICROSOFT) but when I get it back off of my guy I'll definitely downl.. er.. give it a go.

I also rented Burnout 3. Crashing into stuff is essential with me, in and out of real life.

Just go with the Metal Slug games instead - Alien Hominid looks good on paper (and even on screen to watch), but you just can't see anything, and frequently get killed by superfast hard to see bullets. In the UK the big games chain does a 10 day refund for any reason policy - I took that refund.

Don't worry, these games aren't actually costing me anything. I have my ways. I'm more focused on trying to find myself a relatively decent xbox game. You know, one that isn't just a quick fix.

Fable was reasonable. Sudeki was boring. Orta was alright. Conker is so adultified it isn't funny. I can't seem to find anything decent that's been recently released.

If things don't pan out, my importer still has Shikigami no Shiro II + cat figurine for $71 USD. And katamari. And I'm looking foward to Makai Kingdom. There's always GTA: SA, but the last GTA game I involved myself in(vice city) was one that consumed my life. 100 hidden packages later, my life is still missing.

Sounds like you've been *THOMPSON DRIVE'D*

Alien Hominid is a big ol' disappointment. The levels are way too long and they feed you extra lives like candy because the deaths come so damn cheap. Graphically awesome, but man...it's no Metal Slug or Contra, that's for sure. Even at $20 I'd have a hard time recommending it right now :(

No actually, my xbox is a 1.6 and it's using the latest samsung drive. Which I thought was the best, until my "guy" told me that the older samsung drives are way much better.

Sounds like you just got a dud.

Anyway, both KotOR and Morrowind are fantastic if you're into American style RPGs. Certainly better than Fable and (gag) Sudeki. The system also has the best versions of Silent Hill 2 and 4, for whatever that's worth to you.

If you play enough you'll get to play as the Solo Wing from the Saturn games, as well as the Panzer Wing from Saga. This is in addition to the other dragons available in Orta's 'Box Game'

Also, the Solo wing is the final form in Saga...you just need to find it.

But yeah, Zwei is better. . .but only by a margin of 0.2 points IMO.

Mine is a 1.3 and it has the older Samsung drive which is the ultimate drive for the xbox. Mine even plays dvd+R dual layer discs, and cd-r discs which, from what I have heard, most xbox drives have a hard time doing. After finding this out, I hit ebay and bought two new spares of the drive, in case this one ever dies out.

I forgot to add Crimson Skies and DOA Ultimate to the list of games.
