First let me say hello to all my fellow shmup fans. I've been a long time fan of shoot em ups and I'm glad I'm not alone when I wish there were more!
That being said I love to write stories, and one thing that shmups often miss out on are a good story that can engage the person playing. I don't just want to play a shmup cause I want to beat the boss, I want to have a reason why I want to beat the boss. I want to be flying and spinning through a level and be told the reason why I am here, and why I should be trying to reach the end and defeat the enemies before me.
So if anyone feels their shmup should convey a story that would enhance its overall quality, feel free to let me know.
Oh and before anyone asks, I cannot program my own game, nor can I design one. I simply wouldn't have enough time to do so on top of writing and real life work that I have.
Anyone need a writer for their Shmup?
Re: Anyone need a writer for their Shmup?
Make a story for the myrad different themes and levels in XOP and/or XOP Black. You can arrange the levels in any order (or exclude levels in the case of a story mode) as you want. Bonus points if the story makes sense across both games.

Good luck. :D
Edit: And no taking the easy way out and saying "You're inside a computer and blowing up VR viruses" >_>

I'm working on the storyline for XOP as I'm writing this. So far I think I've come up with a good story that surprisingly fits well to the "randomness" of the stages.

Any updates? I'd like to read what you've got so far :D

It's almost done, but I can e-mail you a copy of the story to see what you think. You were right, it was challenging to formulate a story from the seemingly random levels but I made it work!

Hey HydrogenHuman,
I'm in the super early Alpha phase of making a vertical COTTON game. You know the Japanese one with the medieval fantasy witch and the fairy named SILK. Well anyway, I kinda have a story for it, but I don't feel it's very solid. I'm looking for a more serious story as apposed to the normally comedic fare. You think you can help me out and make me one or maybe collaborate on one? Thanks
