Anyone tried these? I've got a PS2 in a candy cabinet at the moment, and am getting sick and tired of opening it up to swap discs.
PS2 SATA HDD adapters
Re: PS2 SATA HDD adapters
I have a HDD in my PS2. It's very convenient and loading in ESPGALUDA is null (even though it still says "loading..."). You should Google for compatible hard drives before buying one of these though.

Re: PS2 SATA HDD adapters
has anyone ever found a way to make a PS2 turn on without pushing the button every time?
Re: PS2 SATA HDD adapters
I remember seeing one of those PS2 timer PCBs that came with a special relay attachment to press the button for you after power on.
Re: PS2 SATA HDD adapters
I've already got an original Sony IDE unit in my other PS2. Keen to try these SATA ones out though.
2TB drives sound tasty.

Re: PS2 SATA HDD adapters
Thanks for the heads up on this. I ordered one. I do have the original IDE one but those drives are getting old. I have SATA drives lying around that would be perfect for this.

Re: PS2 SATA HDD adapters
Grr my gaming budget for the month is blown (yes already) but this looks very cool, I wonder if the ethernet port is 10/100 this time too? That would be very convenient.

Re: PS2 SATA HDD adapters
I have a few of these on hand and have a few different experiences with them. I have been using them to replace drives in older Firewire 400/800 and usb2 cases for video editing and playback. For the most part they work and should work to the max of bus on the board. So if the speed of the SATA drive is 150mbs or 300 you will be limited to what the original PATA board is. Most PATA boards or hook ups were 33, 66, 100, or 133mbs. So you you will never be able to hit top speed from your SATA drives but you should be able to max out the board transfer rate up to 133mbs.
The second thing that may be a issue is power. Newer larger drives, 1tb and such may require more power that a old 20gb sony drive. Point in case i tried to add a 1tb sata drive to a 40gb firewire external drive. I got the drive to spin but it wouldn't spin up all the way for it to be read by the controller card. You could look to "Green" drives that require less power to run and spin to see if you could get past the power issue. Or buy a external power adapter like that comes with something like this. http://www.dealextreme.com/p/sata-ide-t ... pter-30843
3rd thing is some controller boards were made at a time that larger drives didn't exist. So some drives may be to large for a controller card to map or "see". These sata to pata cards may not allow you to by pass that.
4th thing i have dealt with is that the boards are bare boards and not covered and they do flex. So i put electrial tape on the back of my harddrives where the adapter plugs in or i put tape on the adapter so nothing shorts out if it flexes and touches the metal drive casing.
Hope that helps!
