Amplified N64 RGB cable
Well this is sort of belongs to here, but also belongs to trade zone to some extent. I have just modded my N64 for RGB, and it was a success to a certain extent. I could get the image right, but the lack of amplifier makes it too dark as expected. Does anyone knows where I can get an amplified RGB cable for it? The only one on ebay right now is demanding crazy money for it (49.90 euro + shipping). Building one myself isn't an option as it's beyond my noob soldering skill, nor can I find the components locally (I do live in jungle
). Thanks.

Re: Amplified N64 RGB cable
I've very recently done a mod similar to this myself. Which method did you use? As the image is dark I assume you didn't take the RGB directly from the video chip.
My advice to you is to do the mod by getting the video directly from the video chip and then installing 220ohm resistors on the RGB lines in your Nintendo 64 cable.
Using method one here: http://www.mmmonkey.co.uk/console/ninte ... 64_rgb.htm
Here my Nintendo 64 RGB mod using the above method on a 40" LCD:

That's direct RGB to my TV.
Of course, I've read different N64 have different values so it may not be correct for your one but it should be. I have an NTSC-J N64.

Re: Amplified N64 RGB cable
I used the same guide as yours, the second method, wiring from the bottom of the PCB instead of the chip itself.

Yeah, your image is dark because you used that method.
Re: Amplified N64 RGB cable
doesn't it also depend on your N64 model number?speedlolita wrote:Yeah, your image is dark because you used that method.

Re: Amplified N64 RGB cable
Yeah, but method 2 is darker anyway.

your model numbers might help, speedlolita wrote:Yeah, but method 2 is darker anyway.
a while back I took a note of favorable model numbers:
NS105519094
NS108103474
NS111120581
NS127959472
that use the NUS-CPU-03 chip
but here is a more complete list:

Re: Amplified N64 RGB cable
I recently got my 04 motherboard N64 modded by doing http://www.gamesx.com/rgbadd/rgbn64.htm
I used this cable: http://www.ebay.com/itm/US-seller-Super ... 1348293668
It's so dark. It's ridiculous. What are my options?

Re: Amplified N64 RGB cable
I just got around to RGB modding my N64 with a NJM amp. Even with the amp the picture was very dark but putting a 75ohm resistor in series with the C-Sync line for some reason solved the problem. The picture is still very slighty darker than S-Video, for example the whites are slightly dull but I am happy with it none the less.
If your's is an 04 motherboard then you will not have a buffered C-Sync but you could try putting a 75 ohm resistor in series on the composite video line or failing that you could try putting a 75 ohm resistor on the luma(Y) pin for sync instead.

Re: Amplified N64 RGB cable
Thanks. I'm currently looking into an amplified SCART cable because I payef somebody to do it and this just seems much simpler than shipping over my 64 AGAIN.
