Wizardry Twinpack (囚われし魂の迷宮＆囚われし亡霊の街) was released today, would be interesting to see the bluray version localized, even if it seems to be totally barebones and low-budget; the first "Renaissance" title's battle-presentation wasn't all too impressive, to be honest.
I'm sure they didn't change much in the "sequel" either.

The first Wizardry Renaissance title was Inochi no Kusabi on the DS. Mechanics-wise, the PS3 and DS games aren't much different (haven't played today's release though) although the DS games have much better stories and have a more gradual difficulty ramp.

A waste for me to have bought the PSN version and now the BD, but . I don't see SCEA even allowing this game through when it looks and sounds so primitive, and there were more deserving Wizardry games on the PS2 after Busin that never got localized. Not to mention there's not really much text anyway in the PS3 games.

I've seen the gameplay videos of these, and even though the battle system is low-budget retro, the graphics are well drawn and I would SO play the crap out of this.

I really do wish that this would see a budget release here. Every system needs variety, even if it isn't some super high selling mega-AAA title, it drags down a system when there isn't these alternate and low key games to add something different to a systems lineup.

Yeah, Wizardry Renaissance's artwork is its high point. The PS3 version has negligible music and the DS games repeat a lot. And the polygon visuals are pretty bland too. I do think any dungeon crawler fan would still enjoy them though.

I've bought the JP versions because after seeing that nobody was even interested in spending a low investment bringing over the PSN version, nobody brought over Elminage at the height of DS RPG love, and that even the good Atlus from yesteryear didn't find it financially sound to localize Busin 0, I had no hopes of traditional style dungeon crawlers making their way over to the US.

Don't forget 7th dragon never made it over here. The last few years it seems that there's been at least a dozen rpgs I wanted to play that just didn't make the cut for the US audience. I mean, they could remake mario a million times and the critics would eat it up, but every review of an rpg these days starts with an apology for the archaic gameplay. And then the irony that the enormously popular persona games are in their heart dungeon crawling, menu navigating rpgs. Basically I hate everyone. Thank you for reading this.

Finished the main game of Divinity 2: The Dragon Knight Saga and moved onto the expansion pack. It was OK but certainly nothing to recommend to anyone other than a confirmed CRPG fanatic in the vein of Gothic. Also encountered some pretty annoying glitches, one of which stopped me from handing in a quest that I spent about 5 hours on.

I will certainly replay it down the line as an archer/mage as I think I could probably alleviate some of the frustrations of the combat system by keeping some space between me and the cheap ass enemies.

Started Suikoden III again (having lost my save ~50 hours in first time around), this time as Chris, and I'm hooked on it. Unlocked the path of Thomas already, possibly my favourite one. The plot rocks as hard as I remembered (II got better English translation, but III still tells my favourite story among PS2 jRPGs).

Seriously, the warrior is crazy ineffective in Divinity II. Waiting for your HP to replenish and going down in like 3 magical attacks and not being able to avoid arrows makes for very poor battle mechanics. Still, I'll be getting the US remake of The Dragon Knight Saga because I like the game and want to see more from Larian.

I came in here to post that I finally bought a copy of Suikoden III. I've wanted to try a good game in the series, and heard this one wasn't too shabby. Quite looking forward to getting into it.

I'm glad to see that you enjoyed it so much. I know nothing about the series, other than that 2 is really costly. I hate losing my saves though, its like erasing all those hours.

Suikoden II is a very, VERY good jRPG. Crying shame Konami didn't release I&II compilation for the PSP outside of Japan (they didn't even deign to release III in PAL territories). I, II and III really should be played through in order, with saves from the one you finished present on a memory card when you start another one.
III rocks pretty hard, but after II the series never reached the level of production values from its PSX days.

I've only played a bit of 4, which I know, isn't one of the better ones. Regardless, I enjoyed. A local shop nearby has II for the regular going price, but it is oh-so-tempting to pick it up. Some bloke that I kinda know said "it's not that great" though. I trust hist opinion as much as I trust (insert bad person), however.

I actually don't quite understand the love for Suikoden II but it's a very fun, expansive game for sure. The first is faster and to-the-point in my view. The 2nd reduces the sometimes cumbersome mechanics and has a lot more substance, but some elements felt slow for me (don't get me started on III). I think Suikoden V is really well-delivered though; every fan of Suikoden I & II would do well to play it if he hasn't already.

Nah, it's just shorter. I, II and III are equally diluted in terms of running fool's errands, waiting for Godot and all this usual jRPG filler (still miles better than Persona 3 in this regard). Of course if you strip away sublime pixel art and music, you end up with something as uncompromising as III (I wouldn't recommend it to anybody who didn't play I&II). The first one is a pretty safe place to start. All pros and cons of the series are there; if you can't enjoy the former and put up with the latter, I doubt you're gonna like any of the sequels.

One of the bosses got me locked into an instant death routine where one hit of explosive arrows would take me down. Very very annoying, and this is in the DKS version! Rebalanced my arse.

Flames of Vengence is pretty good fun so far. I've mainly been exploring a large-ish town, something that was missing fromt he main game.

I'm replaying Vesperia at the moment with the missus and finding it a great experience. Really light hearted and genuinely funny in places with a well done battle system. I'm trying to track down some more of the titles that I missed the first time through as well as unlocking the bonus dungeon and completing the monster and item books. I'll probably miss a load of things but then I'll be able to do some interenet reasearch and do a hunt for the few remaining bits on another playthrough.

Save from 1 applies to 2, from 2 to 3 etc. You only need one save for each sequel.
Mostly cosmetical stuff (such as names of some countries depending on decisions you made in previous game), but there's one particulary cool quest in 2 (I'm not gonna spoil it by telling you about the details) you unlock thanks to the save from 1.
First and foremost, playing them in order makes them all the more epic and "hystorical" so to speak. I don't know other jRPG series with settings this consistent. Well, there's Ys if you count it as jRPG, but I don't play Ys games for the storytelling.

Ah, good to know. I don't want to spoil the series by starting half way in, so I'll tuck 3 away for a bit. I did something similar by getting Lunar 2 first, and playing it before the 1st. Now, I have the first, but have yet to play it. As for Suikoden, the price for the first game is just fine, but damn... 2nd game is just ridiculously priced.

Yeah, it is. I have the other Ys releases on PSP as well (Seven and Oath in Felghana), and I'm looking forward to I & II Chronicles this month

The demo for the two PS3 games are on the JPSN. I like the first one(Town) way more than the second(Dungeon), but both are fun.

I may buy the second, since the games have no chance of being localized.

Funny how that works, isn't it? A series born in the west resigned to the east.

I've been playing through Dragon Quest VIII for the first time, since I never played it when it came out. Really enjoying it so far. Also replaying the original two Golden Sun games on GBA for the millionth time. Those games never get old; god damn they're fantastic.

Has anyone played the new Golden Sun on DS?
