✿Perfect Cherry Blossom✿

This is the newer high score thread for Perfect Cherry Blossom, taking over for Momijitsuki. Thank you for maintaining it :)

Rules:

✿ Only scores using default settings will be accepted. That means starting with the default number of lives, with Slow Mode off.
✿ Scores with a slowdown rate above 5% will not be accepted.
✿ Make sure you're playing the full version of the game (no demo scores will be accepted). Also, make sure it's patched it to version 1.00b.
✿ If you are posting a score that is higher than the top score on a table, you must provide a replay for proof of succession. You can upload replays at http://replays.gensokyo.org
✿ Screenshots aren't necessary at all, but they're fun to look at. Post them if you want.
✿ Please post your scores in the following format:

[Insert Difficulty Level Here]:
Nickname - Score - Stage (use a 'C' for a completed game) - Percentage of slowdown (%) - Character used (and type)

Now for the scores. It's limited to 15 entries per difficulty, so be sure to do your best to get on it if it's full!

touhoureplays.com appears to no longer exist, so you might want to remove it from the OP :G

I'll snipe this 3rd place spot I guess. Go beat me Aliquantic :>

Thanks, I've removed mentions to that website now, and haha, I'll do my best :) The comparison isn't really fair, of course, since ReimuB can score higher than ReimuA, but I can't 1cc Lunatic again so!

Does anyone have suggestions as to how to handle the replay files? I apparently cannot put URL tags in the tables themselves here, though it's done on Shrinemaiden, so I'm thinking I'll keep the top 3 scores and their replays, even if it's not ideal for the players who can't mae the cut-off. Let me know if you can see a better way of doing it, though, as the current list arrangement feels a bit disorganized.

Shrinemaiden puts the replays on the score lists because they don't use

Code: Select all

tags to format them. You could copy their format and just leave them in plaintext, I guess, although it would look a little less professional.

After watching the personal Sakuya-B run from two days ago, I finally realized you could go through the bullets during the bomb and benefit from the act of grazing even though it doesn't affect the graze count. Works with the other bombs, but you'll be hard-pressed to reach the bullets before they're wiped off. I always thought the other players were doing it because it 'looked cool' and there was nothing better to do, even though some of the bullets would be smeared off by the character's hitbox.

I didn't mean to end Chen's first spell so early. That looks sort of...bad. A pinpoint safespot for Ultimate Buddhist would have been neat, but I don't think it's there. What I didn't try was running over Ran's sprite before the spell started to see if she does have a hitbox, but I'm giving it the benefit of the doubt. And let's say it disappears during the spell, then you could use the border invincibility to get inside. Too far out for me.

From the no-miss no-bomb challenge on sm.org. Having never scored with Marisa-A before I didn't do any kind of border timing or grazing or anything, but I guess just shooting unfocused a lot and capturing every spell will get you an OK score. This is really beatable, so you should retake 2nd, moozooh :>

Not a "serious" serious run, and for some reason it matters to point it out (before they prosecute you for putting up a weak refresher of a score!). No blood, sweat, tears, whatever. 1.5B would be pretty.

Psyched about this one. About a week ago I hit 700 mil and set a goal of 1 billion for myself. I still feel like that might be a long way off, since I only missed something like four spellcards and cancelled maybe two borders, but I also had terrible border timing in a lot of areas that I usually don't.

If it wasn't for this scoreboard being limited to one Extra category I would have quit a long time ago. The desire to beat that Reimu-B score wouldn't let me be, but looking back on this I don't regret the practice to come from it. Now that this goal is out of the way I hope I won't hold back too much whenever next time comes. There's so much more to pursue in the boss battle.

Accidentally finished Chen's first spell a bit early (in a keeper run, again) so toss about a million there. The other stuff like proper grazing doesn't really stick out sorely; it'll come in time.

Took plenty of pictures while the project went on. A few missing, though.

Stage portion
Restart syndrome
Finished runs

The stuff ending to Shikigami "Chen" and "Kokkuri-san's Contract" were already partially failed runs (getting 638K and 641K after messing up the final parts of the stage). Chen was...me looking elsewhere. Would have rather died while grazing the side. The survival spell on the other hand, my mind stopped to ponder a positioning issue because I suddenly felt like I was crossing too many bullet streams over. And while my mind stopped to investigate the left side I stopped as well. Right in the path of the bullet stream.

Oh right, noncard after Charming Siege. Not happy with how I handled that. Or the noncard after.

Let's begin with Phantasm. Reached that "pretty number" but it didn't go so well. I didn't even want to play Phantasm at the time, but this Twitter post got me going. Died to dumb stuff, and once to BoLaD, and twice to Shikigami "Ran" (once for being too close/too late in moving away, the other was flat out bad). It's always dumb stuff, right? If you go into a trance. How could I lose seven Reimu-A runs to a simple laser spell by dying, timing it out, or destroying it too early. So back to this run, what I really hate is some stupid move I made during DBDB. I won't even watch it to confirm what happened, but I probably slipped between some bullets instead of moving out of the way earlier or later, something of the sort. And bad whatever everywhere, so you get to compare this to a run that flopped at Shikigami "Ran" with the "flat out bad" sort of death that could have pulled 1.53B. No use of the third bomb in the stage for that last border. That looks scary.

Timing. Two tiring things in Phantasm. First border and the border during Ran's second spell. First one is responsible for most of the restarts and the second...I'm not effective with it. And there's the matter of getting the second border up in the stage but it's not too bad now that I was getting used to it. The minor things...I'm sure HS参謀 doesn't waste his movements so there's the concern of when to move during the first border. It could be that I'm not looking hard enough because I haven't been searching at all, but I haven't identified any outstanding visual cues that tell you when a new wave of bullets is about to storm your position. I should have tried harder so there wouldn't be so much grief over it. Second one is knowing your space because I know I miss out on quite a bit of graze when I first activate the border and fail to stay close enough that first second. And the rest is a hassle as well. Anyway, done with that!

Extra/Reimu-B has the timing problem again during the first border. I really can't do it like he does in three taps before breaking the border so I take plenty extra and jump between 12K CherryMax below the publicly available record and this (actually, this run had a new record low of 14K below). Not much I want to do about the first instance of the border so I'll work on the break timing. This one took 70 attempts and about 90% ended within the first minute. One run reached Ran, and that was plenty. The stage run up to her was subpar and that stuck with me; whatever happened I knew I wouldn't be done, but I didn't expect it to pass the original goal of 1.33B. Milking Princess Tenko and Shikigami "Chen" was really messy so I need to review those. I've never committed to those spells before. And I don't know what the hell happened during Banquet; I don't want to watch and confirm that either.

As a part of the messed up performance I fumbled the spawning of the final border before Ran because I was still used to the area covered while tapping with Marisa-B. Not sure how large the difference was because I don't analyze things as much as I should. Once I can milk those extra cards I'd like to return to Marisa-A and try to beat the old record. What'll probably happen is I'll set out to do what I want to do and realize how in over my head I am when I'm still several million away from it. In the chance I'm freakishly lucky and pull ahead the real players will see the score as nothing more than a fly to swat down. I can always hope they'll find something new, or I might be the one to change something to make up for what I lack in technique. Innovation? Who am I kidding.

Some other bits...the first "deep" scoring run with Reimu-B took 66 attempts and also met Ran only once. A trashed Marisa-B run faced a Ran who hugged the bottom almost the entire time during the first spell. Like some freak of nature. That just doesn't happen. She now holds the highest spell bonus out of all the shot types. Finally, while engaging in a behavior Naut would describe as haunting the English replay archiver one-upping random submissions, I spent a little time working on Reimu-B scoring without bombs or border breaks. Some time ago I predicted 1.1B for a no-focus run so a run with extra precision should do better, right? First result was a modest 1.145B. Guesstimated 1.16B or something, and I idly wondered about the world class players who could probably pull 1.2B (but it would be close). Final product was 1.19B which means that benchmark will be accessible to plenty of players. Very lovely.

Oh and I need to study proximity and Ultimate Buddhist again. The focus mash with the border going is always wild, but that extra cherry pays off quite a bit. I would hope. Better yet, do it without straying too far away. Best of both worlds.

Also forgot to mention the apparent incidence of rank in relation to gains from bombing. Reimu-A in particular has a much easier time collecting cherry if she hasn't grazed anything (and what of power items?), and Reimu-B seems to show similar results when grazing with the border. But what's going on behind this?
I can always hope they'll find something new
Oh wait, HS already did and it was right under my nose.

I did some PCB runs lately. And I'll do more, once this STGT-thingie ends.

I'll just quote most of the comments from my MotK entries so this'll be pretty boring read to those who have already read it over there.
Actually it's a pretty boring read to everyone.

Easy - SakuyaB
Seppo Hovi - 1,237,884,060 - C - 0.416% - Replay (No bombs)

I decided to go on with the run after a border break to Chen's final noncard. Stage 3 was okay, but I failed stage 4 really really hard. First of all I accidentally ended Prism first card prematurely, netting only a sum of 5m as a Spell Bonus, and losing awful amounts of graze. Also picked Merlin since I wanted to experiment a bit and it was... pretty horrible. I tried to do some grazing with her spell and ended up breaking a border. Jeez. Everything else was okay, didn't fail final card as I did on an earlier run today.
But the stage five was gruesomely horrible. I failed to get the border for the streaming after midboss Youmu (argh), broke one border somewhere around Youmu and also died once to the first card since I'm a fucking idiot and forgot where the bullets hitbox was. Fuck.
The stage six spam was rather lame with only 590k Cherrymax, but at least I got my border during it. Then I ended midboss Youmu's noncard way too early and had to readjust my borders a bit. Everything would've been okay but I broke a border to the first Yuyuko card, losing some cherry and a border bonus. Whatever, carried on and did everything as it should be done - apart from maybe ending Flowery Soul way too early, almost missing a border for Repository (I got it, thank goddess) and not gaining a second border during Yuyuko's penultimate card. Reflowering was okay, I'm starting to get used to doing the PoC thing on the lower difficulties.

It kind of feels stupid, that this run is only a 4M improvement to my old one. And yet so many things are different. Where should I start.

Okay, background. I've been wanting to beat Erppo's PCB score for a long while, and the recent stage 4 weekly got me really interested in ReimuA. Interested enough to start forming my own route.

This run was first to achieve many things. Maybe it could have been the first to hit the 1.4b, had I not fucked up so majorly in the late game. For example, I broke my stage 1 normal cherrymax record, it's now 235k. My overtime record gain of cherry in stage 1 is on easy, which would be 36k. I also have some 40k gaining hard MarisaA runs, but those are not relevant, since they never make it to the end. The stage 1 grazing was pretty low, though. I should've been way past 600 when it ended. Oh well, not a big fuckup. I still don't handle the manly ways of supergrazing the two borders I gain within stage 1, but 15k of cherry from grazing does not sound too bad, at least not for me. I did try to look into some of Heartbeam's replays for tricks here, but I just can't follow it. He's too good with this game. Or I'm too bad. Most likely the latter.
Stage 2 went awesomely well, every border was right where I wanted them to be, and the RNG was smiling. Which meant something I've never hit during stage 2 normal before, that something being 300,480 Cherrymax during stage 2. I was really happy to see that happening. The grazing was a pit poor outside it and I still have no idea what the fuck are HS and Heartbeam doing during Chen's penultimate card.
The third stage and Alice are a thing, which I am really bad at. About 10 runs ended on stage 3 before this one. I should really improve my consistency here. Lately I've been implementing the grazing for Alice's first midboss appearance, for the first two waves I circle around her. Unless the RNG is shit I do not fail this, but as you can see I'm still a bit new to it - I don't gain the optimal graze here. Which is not the main failure in stage 3 I did. The main failure is dying to the wave of fairies before the second midboss Alice. I've died to a lot of stuff but it's first time for me to die here. Thankfully it's not that bad since I gain quite a bit of cherryitems right after it. And I do continue, mainly since I want to save the run to take a screen of the 300k cherrymax in stage 2. It really felt good, at least with this route. The rest of Alice goes quite well, while I falter a bit with the latter cards. Especially Alice's second card. I just can't get the grasp of the PoC trick here. Or maybe I'm too much of a coward to try. Whichever it is, I'm losing some precious points there.
Stage 4. PCB stage 4, which I used to fear when I still played for my first 1CC. And now I fear it when scoring. My route is pretty solid here, I know what to do perfectly well. I never die to RNG-releated stuff, I can avoid that by being clever enough. What gets me is some static failures. First thing was completely messing up the border for the final wave of fairies in the opener. I still got it for the wave, but I didn't really get any graze during it. Nevertheless I've had awesome first two stages so I have 400k Cherrymax to work on during stage 4. It could be easily pushed to 600k, maybe even beyond that if I started to break my route. I somehow fail either pre-Lily or post-Lily, or both, on every full run. Maybe I'm just too much of a shit for this, I don't know. This time the mistake was post-Lily, and what a mistake that was. I entered the post-Lily grazes with 471k Cherrymax. I could push that to 520k with perfect work, unless I'm calculating something wrong. This run, I leave the post-Lily portiong with the awesome amount of 484k Cherrymax. Which is like one border and grazing 30 bullets. Bad, bad, bad, bad, bad, bad, bad. The another bad thing is, that I just don't understand how to get all the fairies during the pre-Prismriver spam. I miss one almost every wave. Heartbeam gets them, HS gets them, and I have no idea how it works. And I'm a coward again, I don't dare to ask for help. Or maybe it's that I already got more than enough, and now I want to figure something by myself. But yeah, this thing is something I just.. don't understand. More hours needed.
Prismrivers. I'm pretty okay at those three, to be honest. I do pick "the wrong sister" since I am horribly inconsistent with everything else, especially when stressed by a real run. But I've formed a route for the sisters and actually improved the route lately. Which means some extra tricks, and cherrypoints. I also recently broke my record on the first card on normal gaining 10M from it. Of course on this run, I forgot to stop shooting and end it too early, netting only a bit over 5M from the bonus. I recently watched a stage practice run where the player does some sick shit during the Prism Concerto. I, sadly, do not understand how it works. And even if I did, the dodging would be too high level for me. Maybe some day, but certainly not today.
Stage 5. Usually I can handle Youmu quite well, but this time it was the bane of this run. A lot of major fuckups happened. First of all, I started the stage with a premature border. It would not be too bad, and it actually helps me as I don't have to break the second border of the stage (I wouldn't have had to break this one either, but of course I accidentally did by ramming into... something like an idiot). But, it means that I have to PoC the stage 5 early spam. Twice. And I'm quite bad at that, to be blunt. Somehow I pulled it off this time, and nothing bad happened, but everything could've ended there, that's how scary it was. And then Youmu, whom I usually handle without trouble. I start by dying to the midboss card, without even trying to supergraze it. Awesome. Next thing is I panic during the first card and BOMB. I should be doing NB-scoreruns, this is unacceptable. The run is wrecked now, but I want to finis for aforementioned reasons. I still can hit the 620k Cherrymax back during Youmu, everything is ok. Unless I ram into a bullet during the easiest card in the stage. Which of course happens. This also almost ruins my border timing for the stage 6 spam, but I still save the cherrycount by breaking a border during Youmu's final card. It's only a spell bonus I'm losing, not like that has happened with every boss Youmu's card but one during this run. Yeah I captured one card from stage 5. Superplay.
Stage 6 starts with way too low bpv, which I cannot do anything to before the spam portion ends. At least I gain the border for the spam, which I break in order to restore some decency. Or maybe I accidentally rammed into a bullet, my mind was really cloudy at that point. In any case, after the infernally shit stage 5, I am entering Yuyuko with 875M and a 640k Cherrymax. I've had a run which entered Yuyuko with 900M and 662k. That run died three times to Yuyuko's second card. But that run is gone, forget about that run. Everything else on Yuyuko goes quite good, aside from the fact that I don't supergraze anything before the third card since I have no idea how to, until I succesfully run into a knife during the third non. And theres a space enough to fill a fucking cow just left from me. I'm not this bad, it's the stress of a real run, that's what it is. I graze the third card with the pussymode since the manly style is too hard. 20M bonus, that's enough for me. Repository gains me 32M, which is a record on that card on normal. I skip one border during the final card due to tension, and my inconsistency, just plainly capturing it with fully focused shooting below the boss. Then Reflowering, I could've grazed a bit more. I SHOULD'VE grazed a bit more. Only worth of 900k. But no. No, of course not. Ending bonus is 204M, just a tiny bit more would have been needed to gain 1.4b. I could've grazemilked stage 6 midboss Youmu's non, for example. That would've done it.

All the tension for nothing. The score is bad, the goal is bad. I should not care, not after seeing someone lose several 2b runs and talk about those. Reading several WR tier posts, WR tier fails. But of course I do care, this is my playing, best I can pull off. Special for me.

Geh. I have to keep heading for that 1.4b.

THREE MILLIONS ARGHHASJKDHAJFH. I haven't played extra ever since. Too scary, but I want that 1b on SakuyaA.

Died to Yukari's first card and failed the stage borders. Also broke a border to DBDB but that was obvious. Also my route sucks but everyone knows that.

-

I also have a lunatic score, but it was done during nighttime and I was drunk while I played it. Also it sucks so I'm not posting it. Yeah right, and my other scores don't suck. Keep dreaming.

Dreamy-eyed.

Been busy with STGT lately, so haven't put much thought into normal ReimuA, Once the thing ends I probably start working on it again. Unless I return to IN easy to hunt for a WR or something, but that feels unlikely.

In any case, this Galuda week at STGT was killing me in addition to catching a flu last Monday. I needed some less-pressuring stuff, and did a bit of PCB Phantasm.

It's been almost a year since I got beaten by T in it, so I guess it'd be cool to beat him on the anniversary of that day. It probably won't happen, though, since that would require me to learn a better route, which would take time.
I also spotted a new name in the uploader doing some PCB Extra NFNDNB runs. It kind of reminded me of Cactu back when he blogged about his extra NDNB runs at a Finnish board. It kind of made me want to play PCB Phantasm even more.

And it leads us here.

Phantasm - SakuyaB

The run. It's a not-so-serious thing, as probably shown from my overall attitude around the run. I won't be too strict about supergrazes or cherry values, or whatsoever, and I don't timeout noncards. (which I do with extra) I have been practicing some grazing for Ran's first card though, and I'm consistently ending it at 7m+. The max value is near to 8m, and it was not too tight either. Didn't feel too hard, but I don't do it entirely to the end due to consistency problems. I also don't graze midboss Ran's second non - I have completely no idea how to. Or actually I do have some idea about doing it, and I know the basic spot for doing it, but I certainly don't handle it up to the extent some of the more better people handle it to. Maybe when I start improving the route I reform the border spots so that they are 1st non and 2nd card. But that shall wait.
Up to Yukari stuff goes quite well according to my plans, besides the fact that I have a border ending a bit early, which takes some thousands from the cherrymax - I'd like to do the second stream of kedama's as well. In any case, 475k stage cherrymax is not a bad performance for me, - It definetly is not a good performance either, but I'm content with those numbers, at least for this run. The bomb is spemt at the spam.
Dreams and Reality, 6m to 8m for me. Which is a bad thing. I really should learn the supergrazing for it, given how profitable it is. It does not look that hard, but I just can't gather enough courage to try it... I definetly should look into learning it, though.
Everything is okay up to the fift non. I end Mesh of Light and Darkness a bit soon without grazing at all, but it still scares me quite a bit. The card is not that hard at all, but I still fail it sometimes. Stupid me, not knowing how to dodge bullets. I don't, really, know how to dodge sometimes. It has been worrying me lately. A good UFO run ended at Shou (again) since I was highly paniced and pressured about the fact that I was so close. Which lead me into completely forgetting how to dodge. Calmness would be really, really important to achieve during full runs, it would termendously increase my consistency.
Back to the run, I bomb the fifth non. This is not stage 5 and ReimuA, so a bomb does not completely kill my score. It still is stupid, I panic and have to bomb. Once again. And it's funny how I always nail this one without trouble on pacifist runs. Something silly about real runs, seriously.
Everything is fine again after it, even though I do the fifth and sixth cards really, really unoptimally, and skip one border again. Panic, fear, stupid stuff. And hey, border break at DBDB. Again. This card just somehow is hell for me. ALWAYS killing me, seriously. The less-played (only 180h) score.dat I currently am on - my better computer is being fixed - has only a 2/37 history. The more played at home has even more embarrassing one. I'm horrible with cards where I have to dodge bullets, especially during lategame.
Well, the summon card. I did a nofocus run of extra earlier, where everything started to fall apart as I Ran into Chen. I don't have much trouble surviving the Yukari's version, but I certainly don't understand the two-borders-magic HS-sanbo does here. Or I do understand it, it's about shooting Ran instead of Yukari. But I've had really hard time copying that. I pick the border for this card and lay off the border for early survival. I'll be missing one border - again - but it has been happening on this run quite a bit anyway.
Survival is just fine, my heart is racing a bit again and my hands are getting unsure, the panic is getting at me. I dodge bullets up to the final phase, where I dodge more bullets. Until..... I bomb at 00 - while completely safe. Why? I am afraid. - That's why. Completely losing it when I get too exited about stuff. I - really - need to work on this calmness thing.
After bombing the survival I'm okay again. BoLaD doesn't seem to let me safespot itself, so I run around with Yukari for a bit while damaging her, until I finally find a spot where I am safe. I'm playing SakuyaB, so some fire misdirection makes it not necessary to dodge the final phase. This is what my playing should be like - calm and systematic, finding a way around the hard stuff where I have to dodge bullets.
DBF's itself. I never was good at supergrazing it, so the bonus is only 10M. I was thinking of safespotting the fourth wave, but was not unsure if I got the spot right so I just went downscreen and dodged. Cost me some hundreds of thousands, I think.
Ending bonus is 452M. I am content, happy and done. This run was a welcome experience. It's not good or anything, but it's a good start for me, at least. Far from pretty numbers, but it still feels good to break 1.1b in the stage for the first time. I'll be returning to this, Necrofantasia is an awesome song, I like PCB scoring and I like Yukari's boss battle. We'll see if I reach T's target with those conditions one day. Hopefully, I will.

-

Sometimes after runs I think what would it be like had I started scoring in 2009 or 2008. I think It'd be nice, having someone to compete against - and lose against -, someone to cease the feel of emptiness with the scoreboards. Maybe then I would not feel so lonely, bad, or late. Maybe I wouldn't need to visit the uploader daily, just looking for someone of my level who would care.

Oh well, that's a dream, and I have to work with the reality. Nothing too harsh, but dreams are nice at times.

-

Haha two scores in the same post it is starting again.

Decided to relook PCB Extra today, given how I had played Phantasm yesterday. SakuyaA still felt too scary (I'm haunted by that 997M), so I picked my new favourite shot, ReimuA. I've really liked playing her over normal, and Extra's not too bad on her either. - You just must remember a couple of places where shooting stuff down at instant is a bad idea.

I had a run that ended at 997M - again - today, but I felt like I could do better (that run timed out Ultimate Buddhist). Which meant that I wouldn't quit at 997, so I carried onwards. And onwards I got.

Extra - ReimuA
Seppo Hovi - 1,048,614,230 - C - 0.290% - Replay

Uhuh. This run was a bit more serious than the Phantasm one, but I still did not do any of the harder stuff, like timing out noncards or such. Or not restarting over a minor thing like missing a fairy, mistiming a border or mistiming attacks.
I handle the start of the stage pretty well, without much trouble. This obviously has to do with the fact that I am using a survival route for the starting portion. I've tried the bomb-timings a bit, but I still can't figure them out for the life of me. Memorizing according to the stage theme would be one thing, but it does not seem to work. Maybe my button-pressing is a bit too late/early, who knows.
Midboss Chen has not been giving me much trouble lately, since I'm pretty consistent with what I do with her. What I do is some minor grazing - unoptimal - on the first non and a tiny bit of grazing in the cards. Very unoptimal, but works for me. What happens during this run is that I mistime the first non, but it's not that much of an issue, so I carry on.
Up to Ran everything goes about as planned, I bomb the stage spam since my timing is too poor for the border on it. That's one thing that needs work. Entering the boss with 498k cherrymax. I've had better runs, but I've also had worse runs. I am okay with this. I also gain a border for Ran's first non, which boosts the cherrymax a bit. It also helps me to time the border correctly for the first spell, which unsurprisingly works rather well. I get to prolong the start of the card border a bit, and gain some extra graze with it. The spell bonus is a bit under 6m, since I don't know how the grazing in this works. Something to do with Ran's placements on the screen, I assume.
Everything goes rather well up to Charming Shit, the only card I actually milk is the third one, which nets me quite a nice spell bonus. No borders are missed, too, which is a good thing. I wouldn't want to miss one this early into the boss. During Charming Shit, however, I decide to be an idiot and run into a bubble while I'm completely on the clear. The card was giving me a good RNG, too. What a stupid way to fail.
One border is missed on the way to the sixth card, and I kind of mistime stuff during the sixth card, ending me up with only 27k Cherry. It means that another border is skipped, which is rather sad. Carrying on, however, the run has been quite good this far. Skipping yet another border at survival, but that's not too much anymore, only one batch of items remaining anyway. A few millions are lost, but I get to play safe.
Ending bonus is 439k. I'm happy.

I'm pretty happy about this one, glad to have done it. Now I can rest from touhou for the weekend and play that darn STGT game.

A few thoughts on the Normal run, among other things.

I guess I lied in another place when I said this Extra run was the first one to employ milking for Princess Tenko and Shikigami "Chen" and make it to the end; I already talked about doing that in the post with the 1.34B run. It still stands that I haven't done a stellar job on it.

What's been going on...late January this year I told myself I'd quit and only play casually, but it's not like I haven't been doing that for ages. So it's really like, "Well I'm going to make it official and move my playing from 'really infrequent' to 'even more infrequent than that.'" It should be around 40 hours now so far this year which looks...higher than I would have thought.

This past month I played a few stage practice runs (mainly stage four) in PCB Normal, trying some previously ignored techniques because it turns out grazing the laser spawn point of Merlin's third noncard without the max power cancel or bombs is really fun (power cancel is still very satisfying). As is grazing from the top down during Prism Concerto (second trio spell) when the bullets are redirected. It looked hot when I saw HS参謀 pull it off (but I can't verify he was the first to do it); I should have tried it a long time ago.

Interest in refreshing scores for the shot types with lower potential has increased, but not enough to know when I'll decide to dedicate time. I'd like over 1.8B with Sakuya-A, Reimu-A, and Marisa-B, and if I hold on to the conservative route I've been running with Marisa-A then those targets should be broken by a huge margin, and then it's a question of how satisfied I am with the performance and not the score. Then what's the point of not taking risks to reach a low target by current standards when I already know I want it to be larger than that? Must be the instant gratification.

Don't know how much I'll care about Sakuya-B. I'd have to try a little harder than the Marisa-A run for 2B. And Reimu-B...don't know either. As always I'd want the favorite shot type to be the cream of the crop, but I'm not sure if I want to go even further with it and practice more. I haven't watched the 2.151B run from HS参謀 since the day it showed up, but I remember it being on the road for 2.2B. Couple this with the opinion that Easy, Hard, and Lunatic routes pull off a lot more retarded stuff than Normal and you're looking at an opportunity to fight for something with a low(er) level of execution. Probably won't be a 2.2B score, but if there's that much room or more (if I remember correctly) then I could at least edge out the current score. And I don't think it was at a time when he started going crazy with Prism Concerto grazing.

If I take that path a few things need to be ironed out:
  • Midboss Alice border. Tried a little with Sakuya-A yesterday, and I think I could get used to it in a reasonable timeframe. Might also be time to cut the laziness and get Hourglass to work for savestates.
  • Alice final noncard border activation timing. Practice that stupid thing. Think up a timing or practice more with counting the sound of the waves being fired.
  • Extended note grazing during the first trio spell in stage four. If I do it right now I use focus too much.
There's also Yuyuko's first spell safespot. I'm actually pretty confident with this thanks to some early practice late last year when participating in a little stage six practice tournament (that run in the blog) with motivation from T and dot_asp. If I had to do it with Reimu in a full run I'd feel a lot less nervous than doing it with Marisa and Sakuya because of the speed (and hitbox I guess), even though the incident rate thus far is pretty much negligible when not experimenting. I still want to be extra sure so I don't botch it in a full run and get a cold chill down my spine. Doing it in a full run to get over nerves would help.

And then there's grazing the final spell starting from the top, even though there's a more crazy method involving border invulnerability to graze the red waves. I may resort to the old method because it's as late as you can get in a run and I'll feel frail like a twig, but why wouldn't I be pulling out all the stops? Who the hell tries to get a record without fighting for it?

I expect to chicken out. Already saying it; it's ingrained.

What will probably happen if I attempt this is I'll watch the current record and/or play and soon realize that glaring mistakes don't matter when you play like an absolute beast. Not merely pulling off tricks but utilizing them to their fullest. What's that they say about not throwing losing runs? I could learn to get behind that mindset rather than, "No, I gotta pull off these things I have mapped out and it's a reset unless it's a moderate mistake late in the run." I don't think I'll learn this time. Just patch the mistakes in the current run and hope my overall execution doesn't fall too far behind. And if I'm not there yet maybe I can keep trying hard and be happy with 2.1B or something.

Seppo Hovi wrote: All the tension for nothing. The score is bad, the goal is bad. I should not care, not after seeing someone lose several 2b runs and talk about those.
Oh, I'm going to risk sounding like an extremely rude person (I guess that's the ugly truth anyway) and blog about this too because your post is here and this part sounds over-sentimental. I wanted to say sappy. Said it anyway.

So shortly into the Normal/Marisa-A attempts I look at my score before the final spell in the game and make a gross miscalculation, thinking I'm in the ballpark for 2B. I play through the spell, nervous and with a gradually racing heart. I'm feeling elated when I finish without screwing up, and went as far as closing my eyes to wait for the bonus to tally before looking at the score. And I get completely blindsided by a grand total of 1.956B. It was ludicrous; I could only see it as funny to be denied and that far off the mark.

I go ahead and share this little mishap with a channel, linking the image and expressing my train of thought in a way as to portray it as non-serious. It was apparently a poor choice of words because when you start talking about it you truly sounded sad and felt sorry for me. And then I see you talk about wanting to do that I-don't-know-what-you-call-it action where you do something in text form. It went like /me pats <insert name> on the head, and that tipped me over. Probably that bad because I already bullied you over feeling confounded by your scoring questions and practices. I wanted to shout, "Get your hands off me! I don't want your damn sympathy."

And that's that story. I bet I don't like reading those posts because I used to and still do engage in acts of self-deprecation.

And I guess I also left the channel (for a number of reasons) that day or later and haven't returned yet, and the timing of that might have sent some mean signals.

Yes, I felt sorry for you, but it is not like I was in tears or anything. It's me caring for stupid stuff like always.
And then I see you talk about wanting to do that I-don't-know-what-you-call-it action where you do something in text form. It went like /me pats <insert name> on the head, and that tipped me over.
I call it comforting people. Or cheering them up, you seemed sad. Not overly sad, but a bit disappointed in yourself.
Probably that bad because I already bullied you over feeling confounded by your scoring questions and practices. I wanted to shout, "Get your hands off me! I don't want your damn sympathy."
So you feel bad for a person who you dislike giving you sympathy? The right thing to do would have been /kickban SeppoHovi Getoutfag. It would have left less people worked up. Including you and me.
And that's that story. I bet I don't like reading those posts because I used to and still do engage in acts of self-deprecation.
My posts are mainly for myself, eases it up to write it down and analyze the runs a bit. Might also help me learn stuff. And I am not really waiting for people to read them, they must be really boring for anyone else. And the main thing I feel sad or stupid about is posting sihtty scores and feeling special about them. But they are my scores, so I care.

40 hours? I would probably have felt less sorry for you had I known the time you played. I would have said something like "you will get it soon" or "play more and you will have a ton of WR's."

That 40h makes me feel angry and jealous. I am a slow learner and you have played before, so this is stupid, but I can't stop the thoughts.
Most of my IN easy stuff was done this year, against you. I did hundreds of runs, you did one or two. You won. Who cares about it anyway, it is fucking IN easy. Who the fuck would do hundreds of runs on Magic Team to try surprising some people he likes? Who would think they get beaten by a guy who did one run at it or so.

I feel like I fucking suck so fucking much at touhou right now. I always knew I was bad, but this made me understand it.

While writing this I felt like I should not post it. It could end up insulting someone I like. But for once I decided to not care. Being a faggot in a completely different way. Going to regret it, who gives a fuck. I will suck, you will hate me. I might get kicked from the channel for faggotry. I will play hundreds of hours, you will do one run. You will win, I will feel like a shit. Nothing changes, never does.
