3 lives, Normal difficulty. Extends at 70K and then every 200K for Tiger, 50K and then every 150K for Cobra. There are other differences, so the two versions are being split.

Post scores in this format:

Code: Select all

VERSION
NAME - SCORE - AREA/STAGE - AUTOFIRE (- PLAYER SIDE) - DETAILS
DETAILS is for what model of console and release of cart/disc, or what emulator and version. Who knows what regional differences might be buried in the boards known as "Twin Cobra", or within the FC and MD conversions?

PLAYER SIDE is for Twin Cobra specifically. The Japanese version and the various ports do not allow you to start the game on the 2P side.

Just a note from lgb's current signature:
lgb wrote:Regarding score threads: For the time being, I'm not going to be online much; I would suggest that you simply do as you normally do, because I will come back and I will want those threads when I do.
If you do want to update these from now, you may find lgb wants them back. If he's not found time for a very long time to update any of his threads, I can shoot him a PM (perhaps you did that anyway before taking this on?).

I notice lgb has now changed his signature, and there's a lot of his boards on hold. I've PM'd him - I'm on it!

Recovering is pretty fun, gets more intense in loop. I would like to increase this sometime... all I need to do is familiarize with the bosses a little more.

Just played this a bit on my PC-Engine:
AVE - 2,649,650 - Stage 2-5 - Yes

Image

I hoped to crush Plasmablood's score but it didn't really work out with the many recovers in the third loop. Probably died around 20 times in this run, incredible how many extra lives there are.

I'm thinking about hunting down the Arcade-Version on that PSX compilation. What's harder, Twin Cobra or Kyuukyoku Tiger (maybe a stupid question, but well)? And how "hard" is the PC-Engine version compared to the arcade original? I consider the first loop on the PC-Engine quite easy, the 2nd is rather challenging though.

Twin Cobra the arcade game is an easier version of Kyukyoku Tiger the arcade game; checkpoints were removed and the default extend settings are lower. Twin Hawk and Daisenpu are like this.

Such a great experience after reading blackoak's interview translations...I can feel the spirit of Toaplan. Glad I can appreciate these older STGs.

drboom - 1,601,430 - area 211 - autofire on - PCB

Was only gonna update with a 1-loop clear score, but this took me the better part of 20 credits to achieve and it seems like each credit is seeing me get farther, but the later stages are taking some time to get use to. Still one of my favorite Toaplan titles.

Aaaaaaand the loop clear I was working for yesterday came with my first credit today! Didn't expect that, especially as I died on this run during the first boss and had some bad deaths from laziness in the first three stages. Pulled it together and cleared it with only one death on the final stage boss.

I don't like this as much. Removing checkpoints kinda ruins part of the game for me.
