Your best gaming acheivements. Not restricted to shmups only

Post by burgerkingdiamond »

I'm a little bored so maybe this will keep me entertained for awhile. List your top gaming acheivements. Doesn't have to be shmup related. Don't be afraid to show off

I'll start...

Completed games:
Ghosts and Goblins - NES.................................Both Loops
This game is absolutely EVIL.

Contra - NES.................................................NO MISS
This game takes pretty much no effort for me to beat, but the no miss on the other hand is still tough. I did it
once years ago. I'm working on doing again and filming it.

Ninja Gaiden I,II,III - NES
III is the hardest then II, then I. I have a pretty good speed run in NG-1. It's about 21 min 42 sec. Theres like
a 12 min one on YouTube but the guy does some trick where you use the spin power up on all the bosses and
they die in a few seconds. I don't really like it because it completely removes boss battles from the game. Also
I would have to completely re-learn the game to use that technique.

Castlevania I,III - NES
Tough games. I don't bother with Simon's Quest (CV-II) since it's like a cryptic search-a-thon that I would never be able
to complete without a guide.

Gradius - NES...................................................1CC
nearly a no miss which is almost mandatory since if you lose your power ups you are of course screwed.

Final Fantasy - NES
This is isn't really a matter of skill, but of extreme patience. So much grinding and little to no story line to make it
interesting. I think I completed this out of my OCD tendencies more than anything else.

hmmmmm they're all NES games. I really need to 1CC Mushi Futari Original soon and diversify my bonds N***A

Mmmmh I can't think of anything that's remotely as hard as it was to 2-ALL DDP and score high, except reaching B skill rank in Starcraft (that was actually harder).

I did a lap of Ridge Racer Revolution PS1 in 59+ seconds a few times. It could only be done by never taking your thumb of the X button or hitting anything. I think I still have the saves.

Shmups: Beating Varth without using pods
Fighting games: Beating KoF 01's Igniz on the arcades using a single character (K'). Also beating SvC Chaos: SNK vs Capcom (the bosses are awfully hard and the requirements to reach the true ending are harsh)
Beat-em-ups: Finishing Golden Axe: The Revenge of Death Adder without dying and getting the No.1 in the Universe rank. I've only seen one other person (at MARP) achieving this.
RPGs: Beating Phantasy Star 1 without using any guides
Platformer: Reaching the second-to-last stage of Kid Chameleon. I still plan to beat this one.

I'm sure there are other achievements worth mentioning but I can't think of anything else right now.

Maybe I'll fire that up in MAMA today. I've only played the NES Rygar.

I don't really have any huge gaming-related accomplishments, but I did manage to somehow turn this particular pile of drivel into a canonical piece of in-game lore for Asheron's Call back in the days when I played that.

Neo Drift Out 1cc....one of the few games I am actually pretty good at. :x

Still need to get past the 7:10 mark though, but I haven't been playing it enough lately. Probably take me a month or so of hard play to get my skills back to what they were.

About the closest thing to an "accomplishment" under my belt is beating Omega Weapon in Final Fantasy VIII without using any invincibility items, but even that's not so much a "challenge" as a matter of planning for that battle WAY in advance.

Then there's my finishing the "puzzle boy" mini game in SMT: Nocturne without an FAQ or guide, but I regard that one highly mostly because the thing frustrated my feeble brain for so darn long. :P

Beating Nightmare difficulty and getting the destroyer diamond badge. Mortem
Beating Ultra-Violence difficulty using only shotguns. Mortem

I've been playing video games for most of my life, but I can't recall any significant accomplishments. I'm not very good at them. Maybe beating that Paper Mario 1000-year-door game in one day from start to finish (I didn't sleep so I wouldn't have to rent it again). Kind of dumb, since I can hardly remember anything about it.

Yeah, pretty much. To play like that you have to memorize almost all of the items/power ups in the game (which ones to get and which ones to avoid) and work out when to use the spin attack so you still can when you reach the boss. You have to memorize more stuff but it's definitely superior as far as getting through the level unscatched goes.

yes sir you are correct. If you were to compare speed runs without using this technique though I think mine would be competitive. I haven't done a no miss or anything yet, so there is some time to shave off. but not a whole lot.

there's actually a 21 minute Ghost's and Goblins speed run that is unbelievable. I seriously think it is the single most amazing video game accomplishment EVER EVER EVER. I mean this game is so god damned evil. Plus it's seriously random at times. I can't put into words what this speed run means.

Speed running Super Metroid in eactly 40 minutes (multiple segments)... after years of training. The actual 32-minute single segmented run by Satoru Suzuki has got to be one of the most amazing gaming videos I have ever watched. Seriously, it's completely unreal.

one time a friend of mine smashed his head into and broke a kitchen cabinet, also power stabbed a wall with an NES controller. It went through the drywall and left a perfect rectangular hole. hahaha
I also head butted a door off of the door jam one time. Idk, it must have been a shitty door in the first place though. I don't know karate or anything :-)

All of this retardedness was because of Beer, cheap whiskey and super competitive Nintendo Ice Hockey... Oh high school, those were the days. :)

Apart from beating Golden Axe and cheesing my way though double dragon in the arcades as a kid I cant really remember anything else ive done that isnt shmup related. As challenge gaming is still a relatively new to me and apart from a handfull of non shmup doujins / indies, everything else is fails or near wins like shinobi and megaman, I really do need to spend less time with my mainstream games and spend more time with the classics.

I haven't played any new mainstream games in a while. I really like Fallout 3, and wish I had time to play New Vegas though. What have you been playing? My PS3 is basically an ornament for my entertainment center at this point. And I don't see that changing anytime soon. I thought of selling it several times, but the hoarder inside of me won't let it go.
Have you played the either Mega Man 9 or 10? I haven't played 10, but 9 is pretty fuckin good. It's just like playing a NES game that came out back in the good old days. It's a good challenge too. Maybe I'm losing my determination but I let it get the best of me and I gave up on beating it. I made it all the way to Dr. Wily's castle and the last boss, but it kept kicking my ass. I'm getting pissed off right now just thinking about it. But those games that make you want to scream and break things are the most fun in the end when you finally make them your bitch. :)

hmmm. you're saying the opposite of what I said. When I said "it's an ornament for my entertainment center" I meant that's it's bascially like a paperweight. In other words it get's no use...

Good for you though. I wish I had a reason to want to play mine.

Whoops...bad mistake on my part, sorry. I must say, however, that most of my PS3 gaming is from downloadable games. There are many titles there worth buying, you should check them out. Megaman 9 is just one gem among many.

Anyway, this is stuff for another thead, so I'll shut up now.
