Re: Espgaluda in Mame
Well from what I heard, for the most part using a PS2 emulator has more of an advantage over these kind of shmups. But configuring PCSX2 can be a chore. Least someone is trying to ease things out which is a good thing. I am quite interested to see how many more games that can't work in MAME will be able to work in this shmupmame.
Edit: However it would make alot more sense if someone just released a new version of the regular mame and just collaborated shmupmame with it. Feels kind of inconvenient to have more than one version of the same emulator...

Good thing you mentioned that and I'm not surprised. But ePSXe for regular Playstation roms plays plenty of games fairly well with very minimal/barely noticable lag.

Not totally true turning on vsync and so on in epsxe adds lag and none of the cave ports to the system were particularly good well not compared to arcade perfect mame anyway.JGcontraman wrote:Good thing you mentioned that and I'm not surprised. Idk, I don't have a huge problem with the PSX roms I have. Stupid question but is there like a listing of shooters that didn't work in regular mame for shmupmame? Perhaps its in the application itself but idk, just curious.

There are 0 shooters (or other games for that matter) which work in Shmupmame but don't work in a regular 0.140u3 MAME.JGcontraman wrote:Idk, I don't have a huge problem with the PSX roms I have. All Shmupmame does is add some hacks (which will never be included in main MAME) which reduce lag by breaking the video emulation in certain titles (removing the sprite buffers which are present on real hardware) It's not some kind of magic. I prefer proper emulation with lag myself.
MAME 0.140u3 even has improvements to Fire Barrel which allow it to run much better than Shmupmame.

Are the Toaplan fixes from back in August included now btw?IseeThings wrote:n Shmupmame but don't work in a regular 0.140u3 MAME.

Here are some builds of the new mame 140u3 with the nag screens removed and the hi score patch applied. I made these for myself and some friends so I might as well post them here for everyone. Im working with someone on another forum to get the cabmame diffs working on this release and will post them if it gets figured out.

Yep, they've been in since about August. One minor fix was made since then, but visually Batsugun should be perfect in current builds. All known oddities (such as the White background on the English ending) have been verified against the PCB and also occur there.emphatic wrote:Are the Toaplan fixes from back in August included now btw?IseeThings wrote:n Shmupmame but don't work in a regular 0.140u3 MAME.

The V25/V35 core added in 0.140u3 is also the next step towards giving it proper sound emulation (some core features still need adding but the framework in which to add them now exists)
Several other games will then have sound when they're decrypted (V-Five, Grind Stormer, Fix Eight, Dogyuun, Knuckle Bash) which should only be a matter of time.
The older games are a bit harder. For Vimana, Fire Shark, Ghox, Teki Paki + Japan PCB of Whoopee decapping will be needed because the entire sound CPU ROM is internal.
See http://decap.mameworld.info/
Decapping involves having the CPUs (and preferably some spares, it can go wrong) as well as money. For the SNES DSP chips he just did the price was $250 each. Depending on the chip the price will vary. Without decapping it simply isn't possible to emulate the sound CPUs on those games, because there is no code or music data dumped, only the samples. Some people have simulated the sound by hacking in OST music samples but that isn't going to give you an authentic experience.

Back to Espgaluda... Guys, I didn't recall the game being this easy. I reached stage 4 on my first run with a score of 10 million or so (awful I guess since the second extend is 14 million so that must mean you can get it by stage 2 or something?).
When I played this at a friend's house, on the PS2, I got my ass handed on stage 2 and let's not even talk about the score...
Anyway, what an awesome game. If anything, this is one of those that could use the high resolution graphics treatment and a re-release.
edit: and the music, while unfitting, is punchi punchi of the good kind.
edit2: SCOREBOARD WHERE? Can we submit?

I ran this on PCSX2 the other day for the first time in a year and I got to Stage 4. Your settings must be different from mine.Observer wrote:Back to Espgaluda... Yep this game is easy already 1cced it tonight , still a good game for the scorers . I do think it really does pale in comparison to ketsui and ddp black label though , Ketsui was the real prize here for me anyway .

Yeah this game is rather simple especially if you played Esp II BL.
Espgaluda III needs to happen.

Cool, now I can lose my credit EVERY SINGLE TIME at the last pattern of the last boss, but in MAME instead of on the PS2! I hate the world!

Hi there and thank you for that brilliant xmas present, I ll have a question to proper unpack it if you might ^^ :
I retrieved a build of the 140u2 version (UI64) but can't find the rom anywhere in it, was it in the diff file on mame official site (it's down at the moment I can't verify) ?
Thank you in advance and good game !
I just can't find the espgaluda_v100.u38 rom , where is it supposed to be (if this information can be told here of course) ?cstle wrote:Yes. Rename them, add in PGM BIOS (pgm_t01s.rom) and the program ROM from the 140u2 release (espgaluda_v100.u38), zip it up and you'll be good.
This is how your espgal.zip should look when you're done:

Google the name and you'll find it, it was in an 'update pack' for MAME .140 u2 some time ago.littlenemo wrote:Hi there and thank you for that brilliant xmas present, I ll have a question to proper unpack it if you might ^^ :

I'v been googling "espgaluda_v100.u38" for the 3 past hours without finding anything.... if it's inside a heavy package over multiple Go I won't able to retrieve it (my windows bootcamp partition is almost full on my mac..), any other way ?BPzeBanshee wrote:Google the name and you'll find it, it was in an 'update pack' for MAME .140 u2 some time ago.littlenemo wrote:Hi there and thank you for that brilliant xmas present, I ll have a question to proper unpack it if you might ^^ :

I got that but where in MAME 140u2, in wich file ? Is it inside a specifical build of it ? In a specifical package ? The MAMe official site has been down for hours I can't verify, I just don't know what exactly you are referring to ? Or maybe it's a link you can't give in here ?cstle wrote: It was in espgal.zip for MAME 140u2

It's not included with MAME 140u2, you gotta find it. We can't post direct links to it here because it's against the rules.littlenemo wrote:I got that but where in MAME 140u2, in wich file ? Just google 'MAME .140u2 Update ROMs' and you should find the file, or just type in the filename you're looking for.

I've seen the thread on arcadecontrols.com and the latest build seems to be working. I tweaked the default ini values otherwise mame force the screen in powersave on startup. The other problem is that the image is not centered.ratsflif wrote:Im working with someone on another forum to get the cabmame diffs working on this release and will post them if it gets figured out.
Re: Espgaluda in Mame
Great work. Will this only be of interest when using Soft15kHz or ArcadeVGA, or is this of interest when just running the games in 480p on a CRT unfiltered as well? I just want smooth, tear-free video in TATE.ratsflif wrote:Here are some builds of the new mame 140u3 with the nag screens removed and the hi score patch applied.
