Famitsu article: http://www.famitsu.com/news/201011/22036004.html

Rough translation of what it says:

1980's-like fantasy science-like shooting

A.D., year 21XX: A sudden disaster on the face of the moon dubbed "purple encroachment" happened. Alongside this, a huge crowd of UFOs came flying towards the earth. To confront the mysterious UFO fleet, the player (fighter (you)) takes up the challenge.

Stages include 26 areas, and in addition to an "original mode" and "advance mode" where powering up is possible, a "time attack" mode will be available.

Use the shot and shield properly!

The player uses two kinds of shots and shields that can be arbitrarily to advance in the stages.

There are two kinds of shots: A shot attacked in the straight line, and a wide shot to which the bullets widely extend.

If it hits the enemy's main body in conjunction with the shield gauge, large damage can be given, and the shield will be able to reflect the enemy bullets, lasers, etc.

Thanks Elixir. The game is looking rather good and the gameplay mechanics sound interesting. It remains to be seen how will result the mix of shields and shot.

Reupped screenshots of Area 1, 2 and 3 along with thumbnails to the OP. Also, added the whole andriasang article to the OP.

This is just one of 26 "areas" that await. The stages will transition seamlessly between one-another.
Thats a lot of stages, I wonder what the total game length is going to be. Maybe it'll be like Varth.

Probably it'll be more like Judgement Silversword, like everything else looks to be so far. JSS has 30 Areas but some of them are very short.

There is a small update on the website now, but with big news.

M-KAI is in charge of stage design and is the main programmer.

That's awesome. It did look a lot like Judgement Silversword. I'm glad he gets to bring his creation to a major console.

Best news so far. The price makes a lot more sense now. Hopefully they'll be remakes and not just direct ports.

I never got a chance to see what JSS was all about, and had no plans to buy a Wonderswan (or whatever the heck it was originally on) to find out, but this would indeed make for a good solution...I'll hafta keep an eye on this one.

Some shops are also putting OST in the bundle.

And that's one rather retro cover art if it's real one...

Nice. You could have linked a source though.

I don't believe that's the final box art. None of the green part has any reason to be there, nor the CERO label to the right, or the preorder text.

Haven't we been through this argument before?

I have to agree. This looks like a every quickly thrown together placeholder, not anything final.

Starting to look forward to this now that we know about the OST and Judgement Silversword.

I only heard this news today. I'm very pleased to hear it for the same reason as BulletMagnet; I never got round to picking up a WonderSwan. Eschatos is way high up my 'most wanted' list of modern games now.

Thanks for the continued effort with this thread Elixir - you're doing us a typically great service.

I havn't heard of Cardinal Sins, but yeah it's a mystery to me how they plan to present JSS. It's a low resolution handheld game, in 2d, wheres Eschatos itself is 3d: maybe they've whipped up a 3d remix or something.

Ah, now that's much sexier. Something i'd be happy to have on myself.

Now i hope this is the end of shmup releases for a while. Between DFK BL and MMP/PS in Feb, Otomedius and Eschatos in March and Bullet soul in April, I'm going broke.

Preorder's up on ncsx.com right now

http://www.shopncsx.com/eschatos.aspx

Says first printing's got a CD specifically, but no mention of anything region free (has the region lockout disclaimer...)

The second trailer's looking pretty great. The different difficulties look good and having Judgement Silversword on a proper system is a dream come true. And I was right earlier, the Mirror Shield bossfight in Eschatos is very similar its original JSS counterpart.

And in the video's description it reads "This game is released only in Japan, but it will be worldwide-region disc." So I guess region free = confirmed?

Raidenous. Looks good. Is the shield thing as simple as it looks or is there some trick to it?
IGMO - Poorly emulated, never beaten.
