This is a myth. There were some good discussions about this on BBC Radio 4 this year (don't know if the links will work worldwide): http://www.google.com/m/search?client=m ... 010+radio4
It's a myth that beer is diuretic, alcohol in general is a diuretic, or that hangovers are caused by dehydration? I couldn't find anything specifically on the BBC page. Googling around didn't find me anything other than the obvious except this report from whomever the fuck Dr. Blonz is. Interesting snipits.

As someone who had dehydrated on a fucking 5 hour flight after a 2-day drinking binge and was almost instantly healed once I got hooked up to a saline drip (2 more hours after landing) I get the bit about the salts. However, a similar effect (smaller scale) generally happens every time I drink water. Dehydration makes you feel like shit, and alcohol does cause that.
Stick to clear spirits with mixers free of sugar
I think this would be a disaster if you wanted to get laid somewhere out of a gay bar though.

In all seriousness, you don't need to have a medical degree to figure out how to curb a hangover. Downgrade to beer later in the night. Mixed drinks are far harder to guage, and are easy to "sneak up" on you. The fact that you can down one in seconds doesn't help.

Why is it when you're 15, drinking booze and getting wasted, you never got hangovers? Kids that age just don't get them, at least I didn't. I'd usually be cool the next day.
Wow.. just wow. Maybe the dumbest post on shmups ever. Worst hangover of my life was at age 14.
Really? I never got a hangover until I was 18, and a lot of my friends have similar recollections. We could function pretty well at school. And now I'm a teacher and see these fresh faced little trolls discuss their alcohol consumption the previous night while I struggle to keep my eyes open, I'm more inclined to agree than ever.

The item in question highlights that although alcohol has a mild diuretic effect it's countered by the sheer quantity of liquid you're consuming. And while an initial effect of drinking is increased urine production, after a while the body compensates for this: http://www.water.org.uk/home/water-for- ... ts/alcohol

I've heard the instant-cure saline drip one before and would love to try it sometime.

Not the case around here, though I can't speak for the rest of the world.

I shouldn't give anyone drinks recommendations considering the stupid combinations I end up with.

According to the guys over at T-Nation and prof. Roberta Anding (Page 11 of the "Nutrition Made Clear" guidebook), alcohol IS a diuretic.

http://www.t-nation.com/free_online_art ... _alcohol_1

"Dehydration is another issue for athletes who like to get hammered the night before a game. Here's what you need to know: The more concentrated the alcohol source, the greater its ability to dehydrate.

In one study, for example, drinks containing 4 percent alcohol or more increased urine output. (21) That includes just about anything stronger than light beer. Hard liquor has an especially potent diuretic effect. For example, an ounce of an 80-proof beverage (40 percent ethanol) contains 10 milliliters of ethanol and 15 milliliters of water. Yet study subjects ended up pissing out 100 milliliters, or four times as much as they poured in. (22)"

I don't drink, period. I drank rum once when I was in Primary School thinking it was Coca-Cola and spat it out on the first (and only) sip.
Saying this at 16 gets me weird looks from all the partywhores that make up most of the teenagers around, but I stick to my guns.
I dont party either, and since these two factors are mixed on top of every teenage drinker I know complain about nasty hangovers the next day reinforces my distaste for the stuff it looks like I'll be squeaky clean for many years to come.

Oh, I'm sure one of your homosexual quips gets that honour.

Although I've been surprised at how many people got ripping hangovers as kids, I know a lot of people who agree they used to bounce back fine after boozing as a young teenager.
So if it's a dumb post, it's the second dumbest in this thread after yours, asswipe. Image

Ha ha, yeah, shmups smileys are a bit limited tbh, probably the reason for all the misunderstood hostilities. I think a smiley update is in order around here.

It's pretty crazy. You really go from "just shoot me" to "wow, I only have a mild headache" once the liquids "set in". You realize this b/c you have to take a pee. I got a stomach virus once and had to do the same thing. Took 4 bags to hydrate me. Doctor said that was pretty bad.

I'm with ya. Finished off the other night w/ a few shots. Been drinking mainly High Ball lately. Suntory Whiskey & Club Soda. It's somewhat easy on the stomach.
Oh, I'm sure one of your homosexual quips gets that honour.
Then my work here is done.
