...in shmups. B'd'ump'tsh

For me it's happening with DDP. For a while I was getting better ever so slowly, but for the past month or so I've been either in the same position or getting worse with level 3 and I can't shake it. I'm not even playing as often as I used to so it doesn't seem like its me thinking about it too much or trying to much or anything. I've gotta take a break before I go mad =/

I hate this feeling...haven't been playing shmups that long but it's that same feeling you get in other games too

Let me guess, your losing your enthusiasim for the genre?

That happened to me I quickly bought all the top tier saturn shmups and had the DC collection completed, I'm not a big cave fan myself, ended up not playing properly lost the collector feeling and urge to play.

Its funny the more games 'I play the less I want to play them after a few thousand games either on roms or collections theres nothing new anymore.

Silvergun got me back into shmups though! just as i was quitting gaming it dragged me back, I think you need to find yourself a ''silvergun'' equivalent that redefines the moment.

I'm currently slumped in game tengoku, just not enjoying it.

I'd say just switch out for a different game for a while. Not sure what you have in your collection and I'm not sure what systems you have, but I'd suggest a different company of shooters for a bit... maybe some nice Strikers 1945 (recommended on the Saturn) or II (recommended on the PSX). Or maybe some nice Genesis shooters - Fire Shark is a good one to gain some easy ground and confidence on which might rejuvinate you a bit.

Not sure what system you're playing it on, but maybe just switch to a different DDP. The Saturn rev is a bit easier than the PSX rev. If you are playing on MAME with 3000 games to choose from but no real soul, that's probably half the cause of your lethargic state ;)

CMoon and I should invite you up next time we get together for some scrolling shooter action and see if we can't find you a few other good fits for your collection so you can cycle between them and help fend off shmup-slumps.

It happens - too much of one type of game and you'll get tired of them. I play a big mix of stuff - sometimes I won't touch my shooters for weeks, sometimes I play them for hours. If you're not having fun anymore then there's no point playing, switch to something entirely different and enjoy yourself elsewhere. When you feel like nailing the DDP L3 boss, he will still be there waiting.

I'm in a big slump right now, but it's because of work. I work play-testing games and I've been playing the same hockey game now for two months. I hate that game, but I spend seven hours a day playing the crap out of it. Sometimes, when I get home, my hands and eyes are simply too tired of gaming to allow me any shmup time. I have to rest for a long while and I usually end up staying up too late just so I can salvage some "real" gaming before another day of hockey.

I haven't really played much in the way of shmups lately. Played a little Batsugun last week, played Gekirindan in MAME yesterday, but aside from that I haven't touched a shmup in about a month.

I'm currently in fighting game mode. I just got Street Fighter Collection and Asuka 120% Limited for the Saturn, have been having a lot of fun practicing with Ken in SFZ2' and Kiyoko in Asuka. Also, just played through Dynamite Deka, which I just reaquired after foolishly selling it last year.

I just posted a whole lot of words about Cho Ren Sha in the Gamesplayer Mentality thread, which probably belong here more than there. Haven't been able to do decent at it in forever, after deciding that my previous run to 2-6 was no good because of some slowdown. Eventually realized that a bad keyboard was part of the problem. New keyboard made it better, but I still can't spin consistently enough, which takes a lot of the fun out of the game for me. I see it as more my problem than the game's problem; it's a solid, well-made game, I just can't stand it and I can't do well at it. I'll probably try it again in a few months and hate it just like now.
