Nah, I definitely wouldn't call them cute-em-ups. Now, maybe in muchi if you flew a pig around, then maybe, yeah.

Another vote for the cute'mup. You're collecting little parachute piggies! And, the cut in screens like Twin Bee Yahoo! help with this aspect. Sure, it's allot of tanks and helicopters, but they're cute little tanks.

Yeah, I'd definitely call them cute-em-ups. Pink Sweets is completely classic cute-em-up style, imo.

Would anyone recommend I pick these up?

My favorite shmups so far are MushiFutari, Galuda 2, and DFK. I didn't enjoy deathsmiles as much (liked Progear more) and Ibara on PS2 was OK for me, but not amazing. Will these even remotely be up my alley?

I've never played either game in the comp so I can't *really* comment, but I'd say why not? My favorite is definitely Futari with Ketsui in second, but I'm pumped as hell for these, even more than I was for DFK. I've gotten everything for 360 so far except Deathsmiles IIX, and I love every single on of them, but it'll be really nice to have something different, imo. I've never given Yagawa a fair chance since I hate emulating games, but I thought his older stuff was pretty cool. Ibara I didn't care for, but that one seems spotty in a lot of people's opinions.

His style is very different from Cave, but I think Muchi Muchi Pork looks like an amazing marriage between Yagawa/Raizing style and traditional Cave style, while Pink Sweets seems to be like his more classic games. I'd reccammend booting up MAME and checking out Armed Police Batrider and Battle Garregga. Also check out Summer Carnival Recca for NES. I haven't actually played Recca, but it's held in very high regard. I've seen vids and it looks like a fantastic shooter, and I've heard Pink Sweets called somewhat of a throwback to Recca.

Other people may come in with more helpful information, but I say why not? You get two classic Cave games in one, and each have an arrange mode. Sounds like a pretty sweet deal to me.

Wait, so you encountered that block of text and felt obliged to reply even though you haven't got an informed opinion to offer? Very interesting.

Anyway mdsfx, the PS2 port of Ibara is poor ... have you played Battle Garegga? Anyway, here's some reviews:

Muchi muchi pork! - EOJ's review edited by icycalm
Muchi muchi pork! - EOJ's new review
Pink sweets - icycalm's review

It is actually not particularly interesting that somebody in the exact same position as himself would respond. One might call it a natural occurrence; I think there may even be an adage about it.

I find it of particular interest that on EOJ's site, only Futari and MMP were given 10s. Futari's probably my favorite game ever, so I'm quite excited.

So you've never played either game, you've no knowledge of either game's system, you know nothing of what playing either game for score or survival is like, and you've probably barely even watched a video on youtube to know anything of the stage design. But hey! Go right on ahead and shell out $80, eh?
My favorite is definitely Futari with Ketsui in second, but I'm pumped as hell for these, even more than I was for DFK. I've gotten everything for 360 so far except Deathsmiles IIX, and I love every single on of them, but it'll be really nice to have something different, imo. You don't say why you like Futari or Ketsui in the first place, and I doubt you play them for score with any seriousness, so whatever.
Why the hell would you hate emulating games that nobody makes money on anymore?
You have no idea what the games are like, yet you think they're cool, and don't even state why.
If you didn't care for Ibara, you either weren't playing right or weren't looking at the screen at the time (that's really the main reason I felt compelled to post ^,^). As a matter of fact, Ibara is one of the most highly regarded games around :/
His style is very different from Cave, but I think Muchi Muchi Pork looks like an amazing marriage between Yagawa/Raizing style and traditional Cave style, while Pink Sweets seems to be like his more classic games.
The fuck kind of style are you talking about, dudebro? Thematic? Graphic? Musical? Mechanical? What makes any of his games more classic than another? You say that you have no idea what any of his games are like, yet you say MMP is an amazing marriage of styles? What the fuck are you talking about? If you're going to spew nonsense, at least be specific, please.
I'd reccammend booting up MAME and checking out Armed Police Batrider and Battle Garregga. Also check out Summer Carnival Recca for NES. I like this paragraph, especially the "reccammend" pun. This is actually a pretty good paragraph. Keep up the good work! :)

What in the christ constitutes classic? Neither game has even been out for five years??? If other people are going to come in with better information, why did you feel the need to post?

But yeah, for reals, mdsfx, you should probably check this shit out.

The poor grammar in this sentence renders it meaningless. Consider rewriting it, but remove presumptions of the subject's position before doing so, otherwise you'll render it false as well. Anyway, I think m3tall1ca pretty much has you covered. I really chuckled at the "I hate emulating games" comment, by the way. Thanks.

Also, for lulz.
yet you burn him at the stake for it.
The accuracy of this comment could be debated, as I will get to in a second.
I'm fine with disagreeing with posts and all, but surely there is a better way to do it than to belittle him.
I didn't belittle him at all. I offered him ways to patch up his post and "enlarge" himself.
Possibly one of the most hateful posts I've seen on the shmups forum in quite some time. Terribly unnecessary.
No hate involved. Just blunt, friendly criticism. Note the friendly, jocular pronouns and smileys.

No, not being mean.

If his opinion shouldn't be held in the highest regard, he should make it worthy of being held in high regard. Thus my friendly suggestions.
No reason to belittle
What, should I have enlarged? You could even play with language and argue that I did! I enlarged the flaws.
and deconstruct his post...
Deconstruction is as great a hobby/tool as "creation", for many reasons.

I was typing up a response, but fuck it. I'm not gonna clutter up this topic by deconstructing posts.

Just to be snarky though: Megadeth > Metallica. Let's not even talk about the thrash greatness that is Sadus - Illusions.

Let's put this behind and get back on topic!

Even though it's now region-free, I've finally got a J360; and yeah, while great news, I can't help but feel disappointed by that  . I'm pumped for this, though, in reality. Probably more pumped than I have for a game in some time. Gonna hafta "break the bank" on this one and do the pre-order, even though that's a good deal a money to me...Shall be worth it, though!

Not to be mean (though I am going to be mean this time), but something tells me you couldn't deconstruct lincoln logs.
Just to be snarky though: Megadeth > Metallica.
ohhh, snarrrkyyyy. While it's almost true, it's not. I've seen Megadeth live, and while it was actually the best live show I've yet seen (and Megadeth is definitely one of my favorite thrash bands!), I still think Metallica put out better material.

Also note that I made this nick over five years ago (?), when I was but a wee lad, ignorant to the intruhwubz, and I only registered with it here so that one guy would recognize me. I've never asked for it to be changed because it is iconic and hip. *touches ass* SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
Let's not even talk about the thrash greatness that is Sadus - Illusions.
Never heard. Probably will though, now that you mention.

IN OTHER NEWS, to be on topic, I think I'm actually going to get MMP/PS. I skipped DFK1.5, but plan on getting DFKBL package ver. The only thing I'm worried about is that they may not include B-auto in Pink Sweets. I don't have any autofire on any of my controllers :<

I bought my J360 a week before the Deathsmiles localization was announced -_- Apparently the US version of DS is weaker though, so that's fine.

I'm definitely breaking open my piggy bank to pre-order this; I haven't been this excited for a Cave game since Futari. I raise my expectations impossibly high, though... let's hope it comes close.

Jesus fucking Christ why does everyone shit their fucking pants about Futari? The game is not that goddamn good. It's good, but it has to be my least favorite CAVE game on 360 so far, or at least tied with DSIIX.

And I'll definitely be preordering this once more info about the LE comes out since the shmup LEs of the last year or so have been extremely lame and not worth the extra money, but I have a feeling they'll do something nice for such a release. We'll see.

Boobies, of course! :P

Actually, in my imaginary blacklist of shmups to avoid playing at all costs, "Mushi-something-something Atari" is at the top. I don't particularly like Cave's newer games anyway because of the loli orientation among other things, but I wouldnt force that view on anyone else. Might just be me being scared off by "THE HARDEST VIDEO GAME BOSS EVER" video after all.

1. Great music
2. Varied scoring systems across modes that appeal to both item collecting fans and chain-game fans
3. Great visuals. Loli doesn't really play into it like it does with DS
4. A bit of a second half to the 3rd stage. One of the most enjoyable moments in the game
5. Interesting bosses and bullet patterns
6. Character variety. learning to play Alternate Reco just turns everything on it's head.

The long and short is that Mushi Futari offers a lot of game and it hits on what a many players are looking for. But as with anything else it's entirely subjective to what you personally find entertaining so if it's not your cup of tea, that's cool.

Now as for why the home port is awesome, that's a little less subjective. Quite frankly it's just packed with every feature you could want. Nice UI, 4 extra views, lag control for LCDs, total control of the image, etc. Which of course are all things that will either not be present or not work nearly as well in MMP/PS. Cave really could learn a lot from M2.

Honestly, no, you probably won't dig these quite as much. MMP will do more for you, but the scoring toughens the game considerably.
You have good taste in shmups though.

Because it wuz the first to be region freeeeeeee, which means all the folk who arrived at this forum like videogame refugees found that it was the first Cave game of the modern generation that could be readily embraced.
But yes, I don't get all the pant shitting either. Even though I think it's a great game, the original Mushi and anything from the PGM period has far more in the way of muscle.

With all due respect to both you and EOJ, those scores should not be taken as gospel. EOJ is very well versed with Cave games and entitled to score them at whatever he likes, but that doesn't necessarily mean that those two games are the ones most worthy of embracing. In fact, there's a good chance after all this hype, that many people will hate MMP (especially if you liked Futari - it's a very different game indeed.)

MMP is a Yagawa game in a Cave disguise, is the best way to put it. If you don't play it for score, you can do well in terms of pure progress and play it similarly to a Cave shmup (although the feel is still different.)
But when playing for score it's pure Yagawa with a merciless rank. In fact, the rank is so harsh playing for score was a turn off for me initially.
Playing for score means maxing out your piggy gold to top values in the first two minutes of the game, unfortunately this also skyrockets the rank so by the time you get to the first boss you need to be on your toes or milking/suiciding on him is tough (yes, the first boss is tough in this respect.)

The main difficulty is when rank increases the screen is awash with stuff - not just bullets but clouds of gold and parachuting pigs and it's oh so easy to get yo' ass maimed without seeing what hit you because you're still looking at one layer of action: absorbing piggy gold.

If you play for survival, you still won't like it as much as Futari - it's less clean cut. If you play for score you definitely won't like it as much as Futari, it'll punish the hell out of you.
