It's extremely punishing to know you've worked half the level to build up your hit counter only to lose it soon after.
Well, it’s all relative. Yes, you can drop your entire stage scoring potential in DFK but compared to other DDP games, and indeed many other Cave games, it’s really not that bad. DOJ has no relaxed period to raise your counter and it's harder to chain stage 1 in DOJ than it is the entire first loop of DFK: Tap here, hold the laser here, hit the bee there, collect this bee now, use the hidden stars, hyper there, don’t kill those yet, don't power up yet - It's ridiculous. Conversely chaining stage 1 in DFK consists of one tricky link from the last big tank into the popcorn enemies (which can be done in many ways) and the rest basically chains itself.

A full chain is supposed to be, and is, a commendable achievement. Cave has once again tried to cater to two sets of people and it seems like the build up being easy was their compromise.

In my defense, I was only griping about my incompetence in understanding the how/why/when of Hyper usage and the how/why/when of Normal vs. Boost in Power Style. They just don't click with me for whatever reason, but I am still trying! The chaining itself is easy enough to understand, lol.

Are you not playing online CaptainRansom? Your scores aren't showing on my friends leaderboards.

Nah, not online... which means I'm not getting any LB replays either. I'm relying on whatever sparse YouTube videos are out there, lol. I guess I should hook it up tonight and get some replays and whatever patches are out; thanks for reminding me! =D

Hallo,

this is my first post and I have directly a question:

I tried to enter the download-code for Ver. 1.51 under Guide Button--->Market Place--->Redeem Code.

It always says 'Invalid Code', although I checked it's the right code.

Do you guys know what could be wrong? Do I need a japanese account to enter it or must I enter it elsewhere?

Thank you!

Yes, you must enter the code while logged in on a Japanese account. You'll still be able to use it on any other account on the 360 you redeem it on once it's downloaded.

With the exception of the first boss, the game decides if you're going to see the hidden bosses as you enter the stage. So if you unlock the hidden bosses on stage 1 but then reveal and miss the first bee on stage 2: the stage 2 hidden boss will show and the stage 3 one won't.
Pretty sure this is not true.

You need to know where the bees are for Arrange A if you want to score.

I was quite happily plowing through this mode for a few days, having fun cancelling bullets with boost in hyper - my score was slightly increasing with each play though, getting further into the game... Then I decided to have a look at a replay.

The guy got five times my entire score before the stage 1 boss. I couldn't really understand how this was happening - but from studying the replay, certain things have to be learnt if you want to score well.

Collecting bees increases your hyper meter. An example on stage one - the hidden midboss. I was going into him with one hyper before - now I'm managing to get three hypers before he appears - entering hyper, this means that I'm hitting more bullets, so my multiplier is increasing faster. I'm not canceling bullets with boost at all. When I come out of hyper I stick to boost laser and grind the silos grabbing all the bees. By the stage one boss I'll have 4 hypers trailing behind (that I don't use - save 'em for the beginning of the next stage).

It took a few hours to figure this stuff out from studying one replay (maybe the guy is doing everything arse backwards... doubt it though) - but you'll need to collect those little bees. They also increase score by quite a bit, but I'm not sure how that all works yet.

... we need a strategy section...

That's true, but Arrange A does do it slightly different.

I can manage 5 hypers in that mode going to the first hidden boss, and I'll have both extends really shortly after that due to bees that are worth silly amounts of points by then. Grabbing bees in Arrange A is easy for one very simple reason: The game points out where they are (the little green circles). I dont need to remember where they are, which is good, cause I cant, I just need to react.

I'll keep working at it though.

As Arrange A goes though, yeah, it seems like you wanna have 5 Hypers most of the time before you activate; I'm not sure just what the formula is, but the hit count goes up way faster with 5 of them than with less. It also seems like using hypers on bosses whatsoever is usually a big waste, best to beat them without.

Its true btw. If you reveal a bee but dont pick it up, you will miss the next stage ura. I got 8/9 bees in the first stage but missed one after revealing. I just shrugged it off and went to the second stage ready to milk the ura... boom regular mid boss.

Go into Arrange A
Change to Boost
Collect a Hyper
Press Hyper + Change buttons at the exact same time

Can someone try this so I know I'm not the only one.

Hi guys, just wondering as i should be getting this in the mail real soon. Is the 1.51 DLC included in the actual box or is it just taped on the front?

Cheers

IIRC, the card was tucked inside the box together with the manual.

Just tried it twice in stage 1. Nothing happened other than being in normal mode and hypering. Any other conditions?

All copies containing a 1.51 code should be marked with a circular sticker on the cellophane wrap.

Plus all LE's should have it by default.

The card isn't so much a card as a slip of paper. And yes it's inside the game case.

It's some sort of glitch, whenever I press those two buttons together the game freezes and I'm forced to shut off my 360.

I strongly believe that this is not an isolated incident, as it's happened about 6 times now.

Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

It's still way more forgiving than Cave games of old....definitely it's predecessor.

X Converter 360 (PS2 Saturn pad or HRAP1), or a TE Round 2. Same thing happens on both. I'll try it on another 360 next.

I'd try it without that converter also and see what happens.

I just tried it on a completely different 360 and it did the same thing. Installed it, connected the TE, set up the button config and went into Arrange A. Switched to Boost, obtained the Hyper, held autofire and pressed change + hyper and it froze.

I wanted to get a video of it but it's too much hassle. Maybe I'm the first to discover this. I's doing it on two completely different consoles with two different controllers, both with different button layouts.

You also still seem to be the only one experiencing it. Maybe you have a bad disc? I tried last night and could not reproduce it.

I don't seem to be alone:

I've just had this happen to me on the stage 3 boss. Think I was trying to activate my hyper and switch to power to cancel a cluster coming my way. So that could very well be the reason, pressing them at the same time will have a chance at freezing the game in Arrange A.
And it doesn't need to be "during stage 4", I can replicate it as soon as I get a Hyper.

Famitsu says this sold 10970 copies first week.

Thought somebody had previously mentioned its failure to make Media Create's top 20 in this thread, but maybe I hallucinated that.

Just inputted the dlc code for 1.51 and dl'ed it, but it is not showing up in the mode selection screen, just the xbox360, a and b arrange. WTF have I done wrong? I hope I was signed into my Japanese account as opposed to the U.S. one, when I went to redeem my code...I'm confused...

EDIT: I am so fucking stupid... 1.51 is there...I must have been scrolling quickly and did not see it...I feel so dumb..

If it makes you feel any better, I don't think it showed up on mine the first time, either. I had to reboot my system for it to appear.
