MMMMnnn looks very tasty, still the word euro shmup does fill me with dread that the designers wont fuck it up in some way after i was hyped up for razor 2 that it turned out to be a large turd.

I woundnt say euro shooters are bad per say (and that would be doing a great disservice to western devs like RHE who make good shmups) but I just never know how theyre gonna turn out untill release day comes.

Anyway it seems that Germany is becoming a little hotbed for DC shmups

Man, when will Euroshmuppers ever start experimenting with other aesthetics than cheesy generic 80's sci-fi?

I've got nothing against eighties sci-fi, but most of its application by European shmup developers has been of the most unimaginative, derivative variety.

i.e. giant octopi in space, like the picture at the top of this thread.

The footage looks very interesting, just too bad it's going to be for Dreamcast.

I think its safe to say that most people here own a DC. Whether it's hooked up or not might be another story.

Agreed and as far as consoles go it's one of the most affordable available really. Well worth the investment for any shmups fan. As to the game, from the short clips it looks fantastic. As Kollision mentioned side scrolling action reminds me of Axelay and the graphics look superb and smooth. Definitely keeping an eye on this one. :P

I agree with the most of you. That little gameplay footage shown looks promising, however I don't understand why they have choosen the DC to develop it since IMO XBLA or PSN would be the place to put their game.

Glorious gift baskets from redspotgames.

I believe he might mentions reasons why in the interview, anyone able to translate? One reason might be that its one of the few ways to see a physical release of your product. That is if you're not down with dlc.

Is this the same Duranik that worked on the never released Native for the Atari Jaguar? If yes has it something to do with Native? Because the graphics design and gameplay look quite similar.

It's the same developer:

wow, I was really bummed when Native was canceled. Great to see that Duranik are finally having their talents go towards a proper release. I looks like they've been making an unprecedented good use of KallisiOS in making this title.

It's better than the loli-infested crap Cave releases on a daily basis. Gradius is gone in meanwhile so it doesn't help either. Or generally, sci-fi shooters in JAPAN ARE GONE. And everything in there is about lolis now. Screw that, i'm sticking to sci-fi oldies and euroshmups.

PS. I'm talking about the "mainstream" shmup market.

Well said.
Nothing against lolis, but variety is always welcome.

You got a point mister. Variety is always welcome but when there's no variety, it is a serious problem in many ways. It would be the same IF we kept getting military fpses and no arcade/sci-fi FPSes. Same thing.

+100

BTW are those screens from the DC game or the stillborn Jag version?

Just because lolis dominate the current Japan shmup market it doesnt mean everything else is gone. See Raiden 4, Ai Katana etc. Basicly there is variation you just can't expect every shmup to have its complete own style. I however agree that in terms of variation shmups got quite stale lately. Graphics are the least thing to worry about anyway.

Love the detail in the giant robo-arms. Looks smooth from what I could see in the vid. Optimistic it plays well; will be watching how it turns out.
(Though I'm one of those who have the DC, but not hooked up currently...)
Made a giant arcade-adventure: Pig Eat Ball. Also made shmup with multi-ships: Shoot 1UP DX, Gunstacking game: Serious Sam Double D XXL, and more shooters.

Axelay: The Revenge? No, this really does look awesome, though. I love fighting sea creatures in planes more than anything.

Judging by some of the responses, I'm not sure if we're talking about the same video. Except for the shiny graphics, I don't see anything that let me go "wow". The ship's shot especially looks meager and even the very small popcorn enemies needed a few shots to go kaput in one of the footages. I'm waiting for more, clearer footage.
