You realise all your non-HD games will look like shit on HDTV right? At least on my Sharp Aquos 37" ps2 games look damn bad compared to my old CRT.

Not a very nice way to put it don't you think?Kaiser wrote:You realise all your non-HD games will look like shit on HDTV right? At least on my Sharp Aquos 37" ps2 games look damn bad compared to my old CRT.
Just because someone might hook up low res hardware to a high res display doesn't mean they're ignorant to the idea of a crt doing a better job. Plus, he has an Astro City right beside it.

Re: Awesome stuff you've just bought (+pics please)
I didn't mean to be rude to anyone. So sorry if I offended anyone. It's always best to have a CRT near you for pre-HD stuff ; )Kingbuzzo wrote:Not a very nice way to put it don't you think?Kaiser wrote:You realise all your non-HD games will look like shit on HDTV right? Oh uh, I should've mentioned.
It was a group order so the other 3 copies belong to other people. Still though.

I had to use a stock photo since my cam's batteries are dead....
Got a brand new in the box Sony PVM 20L5 20 inch monitor to replace my old PVM. This thing is a reference level CRT monitor. The reason I jumped on it is because it handles all these resolutions NATIVELY!!!
480/60l (NTSC) 16:9/4:3
575/50l (PAL) 16:9/4:3
480/60P 16:9/4:3
576/50P 16:9/4:3
1080/50I* 16:9
1035/60l 16:9
1080/60l 16:9
720/60P 16:9
I am super stoked about it... I had mentioned this acquirement in the hardware section but I'm so thrilled with it I had be a douche and mention here also. It accepts component, RGB and RGB with sync on green along with having A/V and S-video jacks on the back. Also has pass through jacks for all inputs.
I was amazed at how well Ketsui (along with other low res modes with cave 360 ports) looked on this thing with the 360 in 480i. Futari looks dead on with the scanline option in 480p... I compared the PCB and 360 version on the same monitor. The Hi res modes on the 360 ports look fantastic as well. I've been dreaming of a multisync monitor, but this thing is amazing. I LOVE it.
If you feed the monitor a colorbar image (a certified/accurate proper one) via component it has the ability to self calibrate the color/black levels to proper levels on it's own. I did this with the 360 as well. It also can have individual color adjustments stored for different sources.
I was amazed at how well it handles being tate/vert... no convergence, geometry or color distortion at all. Love it.... all for 150.00 US dollars new in the box, the owner even drove it to my front door.
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

Yeah... the more I read about it, it truly seems to be a holy grail of multi-sync monitors. Regardless... it suits my tate needs with flying colors.

Man, I had found a really sweet Sony studio monitor similar to that a couple mounths ago on the curb that had about every hook up in back that you could want. Got it home, cleaned it up, plugged it in, and well.. It made this horrible whine, the screen crackled, and the whole thing smelled of electric smoke. You would be surprised how quickly I backed away from it. Total bummer. Nice score, having something like that in my hands recently, that didn't work, makes me really jealous.

Awesome pickups man. I love the stuff you're finding. I wish I had a warehouse like you to store it all in. I have to pass on so many games over here due to no space or moving it down stairs. Is there a lot of old arcade stuff left in Europe? I was under the impression that there wasn't as much as in the US.
Re: Awesome stuff you've just bought (+pics please)
i would too have passed on many "big" things if i didnt convert a friend to this madness. (but in matter of hardware i'm nearly the end of wishlist... only seeking now some "EM, electromecanic" ones).
yep it seems thare there is less stuff in europe/ especially france in matter of dedicated cabs ! (more are "available" in UK, germany we see on Ebay) . it's uncommon here to find "easy" things as americans can have : centipede, ms pacman, galaga, ... . because of prices, there were so many "bootlegged cabs" here
.. even in matter of games.. (except neogeo) ... and the smarter : african & arabian countries picked a lot of "abandoned hardware from the dealers, when the "arcades" collapsed in 1996-1999...

My new propane burner showed up (ordered one of those damned expensive blickmann burners as my original burner couldn't get my wort up to boil fast enough (you need a helluva big burner to do 10 gallon batches folks)), and sat out on the porch drinking beer, assembling the fucker. I'll be brewing a new batch on new years eve, can't wait!
