To get the good ending. You need to use the Drop Tear item on the evil opa opa before he explodes I believe. Actually when his shield is down I think. You should try that!

I managed to get it to loop by doing all the bosses on the dark side, though when I did the level 8 boss rush it made me fight the light side bosses (I wasn't complaining!). Maybe you have to no miss to do the dark side boss rush?

Stupidly I failed to use the Tear Drop on him even though I had it in my posession. Because I'd never used it before I had no idea of how it would deploy. The first time I used it I was in completely the wrong position and it missed, then I charged it up again and was about to use it when he exploded. :x

I did get a 'good' ending but it also said "the mystery has not been solved" so you must have to use the Drop Tear to see the true proper ending. Next time I won't make a mess of it....

I managed to use the Drop Tear this time and saw the true final ending. You also get a
large bonus which must be some sort of multiplier on your gold, so the aim of the game is to stay on the dark side for as long as possible and finish each loop with as much gold as you can.

At the end of the true ending sequence it suggests that a Fantasy Zone III could be made in the future, though I suppose that's unlikely now since Thunderforce VI wasn't a success.

Good to see that true ending worked out for you. I believe that Super Fantasy Zone for Genesis/Megadrive is the THIRD game in the main series. You should check it out and beat it.... however beware of stage 7 boss, that one is OH MY GOD RIDICOLOUS in difficulty.

Yeah that's a great game too , I opened a thread for it a few months back. For a sure fire way to beat the level 7 prawn boss, destroy all the 'generator' things throughout the level as you would normally and when you've destroyed the last one suicide off one of the remaining popcorn enemies. When you respawn you'll get a chance to use the shop before the boss turns up. Buy what speed up you want, quartet missiles and the lazer. With these you'll be able to kill him quickly before things start to get nasty. Just don't die though, as I'm sure you're aware he's very hard to beat with default speed and missiles.

Game's pretty hard, if you die and there isn't a shop nearby then you're in big trouble

I don't know how the end of game multiplier works in this game, it's definitely more than just x10 on your gold, that would've only got me about 600k. Maybe there's a multiplier on remaining lives too, since this game doesnn't loop

@ Ruldra: If you can remember, how much gold and lives did you finish the game with?

Good thing I took a screencap after beating the final boss. I had:

561900 points
$ 51250
0 lives

I have no idea how the endgame bonus works either. I don't remember what the game did to my money but it wasn't just added to the total score, I still had 500k points after my money was zeroed. Then the credits rolled, then all of a sudden I had a million at the start screen. Weird.

I haven't played this installment, but the end of loop bonus from the first game is (gold * 10) + (lives * 1,000,000).

In your case, Ruldra, 561,900 points + $51,250 * 10 = 1,074,400 points, the score you posted above. It's weird that the game doesn't display the proper final score until after the credits.

Thanks for the info. I knew about gold being multiplied by 10 but I didn't know that spare lives were worth a million each.

I couldn't remember but I must have finished the game with 3 spare lives :o

This game is too fun. Splurged on lives in 1-8, died to something silly in 2-2.

Bummer, right? This is such a brilliant package. I'll bust mine out soon and post my scores.

Yes and yes, FZ Complete Collection is a pretty hefty package. I even took the time to clear Galactic Protector :mrgreen:

This game is great, but for whatever reason I can't use the bomb on MAME. Means I can't get the best ending. ;_;

After playing the game for few days, I succeeded my one credit clear. Had trouble with the final boss but after watching YouTube vids, I realised how easy it was to beat. To the moderator in case you're able to update, here are my stats:

Could've pushed it further, but I foolishly tried to speedkill the 4-2 boss with a Smart Bomb. I basically just start flailing, once I price myself out of early game Fire Bombs.

I'll up the replay at some point, maybe.

The inp for my last run(using Shmupmame 4.2) desync'd on loop two, so I switched to MAME+ for this one, and... it desync'd within 20 seconds. I gotta start testing these things beforehand. :?

in the meantime, have this
