Retro Reality: Rare Laserdisc/VHS recordings on Youtube
Hello,
I've been making recordings of some rare old game related Japanese laserdiscs from my collection and posting them on youtube so more people can enjoy them.
So far I have these up:
Capcom Game Syndrome
Namco Gal's Island
Samurai Spirits Juuni Kenshi Retsuden
http://www.youtube.com/user/RetroRealityGaming
This forum seems like a place that would appreciate some of them, as a few are superplay related so I decided to make a post. If I'm violating rules etc my apologies.

I've watched many of these that you have up, good quality, plus it's nice to see the games in action even if I own a few of them. Shame I can't understand what the lady is talking about on the Namco games one. Definitely worth checking out to see what goodies are on these laser discs.

Re: Rare Japanese laserdisc recordings on youtube
Good stuffs man! Will give them a peek later. Are they lame, or awesome? Well, it probably doesn't matter, because they're arcade related.

Re: Rare Japanese laserdisc recordings on youtube
I've uploaded a new laserdisc rip: The King of Fighters '95
It's an "All About" type disc with the voice actors speaking lines in character, explaining the story, and some combos and instructional portions later in the video (in Japanese, of course)
http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p ... 5A3C4BE98B
Special thanks to Fudoh for helping me fix some of the bad deinterlacing issues during recording and processing.

A new laserdisc upload, and this time shmups related.
Super Darius perfection has already been uploaded to youtube by someone else, but the quality is really bad IMO. So I recorded a new copy from my personal laserdisc and deinterlaced/processed the video for a much better result.

This laserdisc contains perfect playthroughs of every zone, and all the endings for the PC Engine port of Darius.

Another SNK laserdisc upload, Garou Densetsu Special.

Yep, somebody brought in a full-sized upright Data East Laserdisc cab of Road Avenger to the 2008 California Extreme show. It was cool to see it up & running in all it's glory. First time that it had made a CAX show appearance.TrevHead (TVR) wrote:Wasnt Road Avenger a laserdisc game?
Road Avenger is known as Road Blaster in JPN & got a port for both the SS and PSX consoles as well (in addition to the aforementioned Pioneer LaserActive release).

Re: Rare Japanese Laserdisc/VHS recordings on youtube
The last laserdisc upload for a while, before I start on Air Raid, Demon Front, and the Capcom Friendly Club VHS tapes.
Game Live Video: Street Fighter 2: The World Warrior is a basic how to on how to beat the original arcade version of Street Fighter 2: The World Warrior with each character, against every other character. The techniques used could be described as fairly cheap, exploiting the CPU AI, jab into throws, etc. But it's still a fun watch.

The latest video is a recording from an old 1989 Turbografx 16 promotional tape, with game previews, system information, and some unintentionally funny moments from the goofy actors.

Re: Rare Japanese Laserdisc/VHS recordings on youtube
NEC sure knew how to make those promotional videos touting it's TG-16 console. NEC had many TG-16 demo kiosks installed in the USA including some prominent displays at the more expensive FAO Swartz toys stores like at the one in San Francisco back in 1989-1990.
When NEC teamed up with famed Japanese game publisher/developer Hudson Soft to form the newly joint-collaborative business venture, Turbo Technologies Incorporated (TTI) in mid-1992, they managed to get Turbo Duo demo kiosks setup at major retailers Stateside including Toys-R-Us. I recall trying out a Turbo Duo demo kiosk at my local Toys-R-Us store back in 1993.
Too bad that TTI didn't release more killer-app PC Engine gaming titles to sell in the USA. TTI & Working Designs were trying to work out a deal to bring out a bundled Arcade Card Duo upgrade + Arcade CD-Rom2 game set for Duo console owners back in late 1993 but it fizzled out. It was bad enough that TTI didn't even have plans to sell/distribute the new fangled 32-bit powered NEC manufactured PC-FX console for the upcoming 1994 season as they were losing $$$ left and right (due to the heavyweights of SOA & NOA with their heated gaming consoles war). It was the beginning of the end of the Turbo Duo for the 1994 season and into 1995. TTI had made an agreement with Southern California based mail-order business Turbo Zone Direct (TZD) to release their very last official U.S. Super CD-Rom2 gaming titles in 1994. There were some reports of a few U.S. based Toys-R-Us stores still selling the Turbo Duo at the original asking MSRP price of $299.99 USD in early 1995 (but nobody was buying them at that price).

Re: Rare Japanese Laserdisc/VHS recordings on youtube
Uploaded today is an old gem of a VHS tape from back in the early days of gaming mags, Game Player's Gametape Volume 1 Number 2.
These are old gameplay/strategy tapes released by Game Player's magazine back in the day showing strategies for old NES games, and some great vintage NES commercials for games and accessories. It's really a blast from the past, and brings back nostalgic feelings of gaming as a kid back then.
This particular tape contains Ninja Gaiden, Mega Man 2, Bad Dudes, Amagon, and Air Wolf.

There are so many early 90's catch phrases in there I think my head is about to explode. I actually worked in a video store that displayed this fucking thing all day. Re: Rare Japanese/US Laserdisc/VHS recordings on youtube
I believe there indeed was one. Currently, all the Laserdisc content I own has been ripped and uploaded already. If I can find it, I will certainly try to get that uploaded for everyone.
Because of the shipping limit situation in Japan I can't really get more than 1 laserdisc or VHS imported at a time which is kind of a pain, but I'm always on the lookout for people selling rare video game related VHS and Laserdisc domestically (US) or from Europe.
Additionally I've started offering a service where if someone owns a rare Laserdisc or VHS that I'd like to have on the site/channel but doesn't want to sell it, they can lend it to me and I'll rip it, do high quality deinterlacing and processing on it, and burn them a nice DVD copy free of charge, and send the DVD and their LD/VHS back. They would receive credit in the video posting for their generosity as well of course.

I know what you mean. I bought the Dirty Pair complete laserdisc box set off YAJ from shoppingmalljapan.com a few years ago, and it was too heavy for them to mail to me in the US. I had them mail it to my mom-in-law in Japan and I picked it up from her when we went to visit the family there.Arasoi wrote:Because of the shipping limit situation in Japan I can't really get more than 1 laserdisc or VHS imported at a time which is kind of a pain,

Lords of Thunder: Promo VHS
Well here is an odd one. A very short 8 minute promo video released for the US release of Lords of Thunder. The production quality on this VHS is quite cheap, and some of the random scenes are pretty strange to say the least.

Toys-R-Us sold those old NOS Game Player's Gametape Volumes for a mere $2 bucks a pop on clearance back in the mid-1990s. I passed on them since no one really was buying them as they were just languishing on the store shelving.Arasoi wrote:Uploaded today is an old gem of a VHS tape from back in the early days of gaming mags, Game Player's Gametape Volume 1 Number 2.
