Why is there no McRib in the States and the UK? You can get them at every McDonald's in Germany.

Also, best thing about McDonald's in Germany: They serve beer!

I avoid McD's alltogether to lower my salt intake because if I eat something REALLY saltly.... :P

I swell up really bad and then explode, costing me a credit each time... :x

Oh and heaven help me if there's a chinese reasutrant nearby, I can't resist!

Well, I had one of these for lunch today.

I was a bit surprised how good the service and cleanliness was - it's been literally years since I was in a McD's though I have driven through Burger King and Steak 'n' Shake many times. I would say this particular location (actually on the same road as me) is far beyond the Burger King I used to get stuff from (now closed down...hmm) and probably cleaner than even Steak 'n' Shake - brighter too. Brighter than Schlotzsky's, which is clean but the decor is starting to fade (I suppose that's appropriate since it seems to take its design cues from Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?).

The sandwich itself didn't make any impression on me. There was the reverse-pulled pork stuff, (I've been calling it "pushed pork"), the somewhat sweet sauce, and chopped onions with some barely noticeable pickles on top. I was thankful that there didn't seem to be any obvious inconsistencies in the pork meat - no chunks of gristle or other suspicious stuff, but in a way the too-pleasant smoothness could almost be a cause for suspicion by itself. The same goes for the artificial flavorings - they were a lot more subtle than I expected, especially compared to the knock-out beef smell on a Borker Keeng WOPR. It wasn't necessarily good or bad, it was just...vague. The fries were exceptionally salty though. I had a Doctor Pepper, just as displayed on the menu item, because I didn't feel like having the super generic Coke, Sprite, Diet Coke, or Caffeine Free Diet Coke (I overheard at least two other patrons express complete and utter fascination about the caffeine free diet, so hey we're moving up in the world I guess).

It was nice to have a change, and in truth it was tastier than I think the cold food waiting for me would've been. But it didn't really seem tasty. It was existent and I put it down.

I don't understand why they do regional items like this. Are there really that many New Englanders who pass over locally made lobster rolls in favor of McDonalds? I can't imagine it being a very profitable venture for them.
When a McD exec farts fifty local farmers fall over. I think it might be a bit like Wal*Mart's recent "grown locally" push - diversify the product line, let people know you're thinking of them so you don't become just a faceless corporation. The lobster rolls or whatever are also a way to compete with local stuff. It might not be profitable but they are probably hoping to capture more dollars by catering to local tastes. Even if they use imitation lobster (like...imitation crab, but does this even exist?) it is going to be more expensive than just doing the normal stuff, but it strikes me as being exactly the same in principle as the (much cheaper to make) cold gazpacho soup famed in some Latin American McDonalds franchises.

McRib has been, currently is and always will be a standard McD Burger here in Germany :) Lucky for us!
they replaced the barbecue sauce with mayo in the Japanese version? Blasphemy!
they once did a McSumo over here which basically was a McRib with Mayo instead of BBQ - now I understand where they got the idea, haha....

Beer in German McDonald's? But of course.

Next weekend I'm heading down to Cincinnati and on the way I want to finally grab a Grillburger at DQ. DQ's around here don't have them.

Had one today for the first time in ages.
The value meal is a pretty good deal...$3.99 gets you a McRib, fries and drink.

I must say, it was quite good. Better than I remembered.
Yeah its a pressed/formed pork patty, but it tastes pretty clean and there are no odd chunks or weird bits in it (that I could tell anyway).

A race to the bottom.

When I'm looking for cheap and quick eats, I usually grab a shawarma or a Portuguese bbq chicken sandwich. Independently owned, and fresh quality meat that you can see and inspect right in front of you. I guess McD's has run most of these places out of business beyond inner city markets, but it's still sad to see people spending roughly the same $5 on something that's just not even real food.

As a cook I've only worked for small business so I'm obviously not going to have anything nice to say about McD's

my fav local cheap eats

It's engineered to taste this way.

Engineered.

Nothing would convince me to eat american mass-produced pork.
The animal abuse, especially with chickens and pigs, is unbelievable.

We still have the McRib here in Germany. We also got a bratwurst-burger called the Nürnburger.

Earlier this week, at nZero's suggestion, I tried a McRib with bacon added.

I wasn't planning on having more (mainly because I can't resist the fries and I'm trying to cut down) but I might have to get it at least one more time this month...

I just had a McRib.

JESUS CHRIST, that was the worst sandwich I have ever eaten. That is all.
I expected something... well, with flavor. A bloody McDouble has some flavor. This was just bland "meat" drowned in bad barbecue sauce, and I am now extremely nauseous. Maybe it's just the hour [9:20pm], maybe the location [Lighthouse Point, FL], all I know is that it was bad, despite how lauded it is.

edit: whoops, apparently that side of US 1 is in Lighthouse Point, not Pompano Beach

How about starvation? Many Americans live in "food deserts" where all that is available is what's slepped in by tractor trailer.

But I agree, nothing is as abusive as being forced to eat some of the things fashioned out of chicken and pig bits :|

I also decided to try one for lunch today after reading this thread. WTF! I used to love them back in the 80s, and now it tastes like shit. I was also feeling nauseous for about 2 hours afterwards. Thanks shmups.com.

Hey, it's a $3 sandwich, so it fell in-line with my expectations. I honestly wouldn't bother with it if it weren't for the fact it will probably not be in stores beyond this month.

The last time I've been to McDonalds this frequently was when they had the Coke glass promo. It was real glass! But I had to stop after the second one because the food was making me sick...
