Maybe a sticky promoting the sources of info and the strategy section of the forum would be a good idea? Youtube has icarus and prometheus plays to .

Can someone who knows the stage 2 & 3 boss milking techniques check if you get as much score from it on Blue arrange? Looking at the leaderboards it seems to give much less. I like the mode a lot so if that's true I'll probably just play it instead of the arcade mode.

I'd like to see some videos of this Blue arrange to see if it actually redeems the game at all.

Nice. A forum on shmups where you can't ask a question on shmups.

Nice to know some peeps can be helpful rather than arseholes though.

The XBox 360 has the ability to set the resolution to wide or full screen. That's a job for the console. CAVE took this matter into their own hands and failed miserably. It's a broken port. Get with the program.

I'm saying must of us payed like $90 for Mushihime with DLC and shipping last November. So that's a huge investment and for people that got screwed by play-asia over the 1.01 code I can see why the frustration happened and huge forum topic over it. Paying $10 for a port of an 11 year game that I (and most people) would likely never play outside of this and getting mad about the lack of screen options seems an overreaction? Especially when this is the focus of the thread instead of the actual game.

Granted I haven't played it in the arcades or MAME so maybe I "just don't get it." But would be nice to discuss this games scoring techniques, art style, gameplay etc without every other thing being negative?

Granted I'm a bit of shmup importing/noob but I for one come here because the discussion is far more intelligent and mature about these games then it would be to talk about them of NEOGAF or gamefaqs?

Sorry if I come off like a a hole I'm not trying too.

I think you could just borrow someone else's gamertag to try the game out, right? I only have Guwange downloaded on mine so I wouldn't mind loan it for a day or two, if you can get a good video :)

Oh yeah, thanks for reminding me. I bought that and didn't get the 1.01 code. THANKS PLAY-ASIA!

I just have a regular camera (720p, but still, not a capture device). SFKhoa has a nice capture device. I'm not sure if he's going to buy it since I haven't talked to him about it, but if you want to loan it out to anyone to seriously get some good video, send him a PM.

I have a Hauppauge HD PVR and can capture the 115 million pt run I did last night (with Gensuke) at 720p.

If you wouldn't mind, whenever you have some time, that'd be great to see. Have you played both new versions? I'm not sure what they're called.

Do you know if SFKhoa would be as likely as you to break Blue mode, though? :P There's only a 16 million replay right now and after that it's 10-11 million on the leaderboards when Arcade has hit 32 million, so I'd be very interested seeing if Blue still suffers from heavy milking... and if you upload the replay online, anybody else can do the actual capture.

(Kiken's replay is from the other 360 Arrange mode, by the way, which is a dual stick mode that's a LOT easier to play with bullet cancelling all over the place)

Haha... I'm sure SFKhoa could do just as well. I have some time next Saturday to play (11/20), so if you wouldn't mind, we can do that. I just want to try it out for a couple hours to see if it's worth playing/buying or not. I'll try to create something sort of decent within that time.

Echoing this - getting the port to output 4:3 without letterboxing should be a trivial matter. Native 4:3 is really, really important for those who play using arcade cabinets and rotated CRTs, and has been a feature of nearly every vertical shooter port for decades. Nevermind, those with older CRTs that are NOT rotated are now forced to play the game in a postage stamp sized area because they can't turn the letterboxing off.

Someone screwed up. Pricing the game at $10 isn't some justification to half-ass it.

I understand your concern. Certainly its fine to let CAVE no your frustrations if you feel like emailing them. But is this really a big enough issue to not purchase the game for $10 and get some fun out it and encourage CAVE to pursue releasing their games via XBLA and/or retail disk?

To those who are saying it doesn't matter than there's no 4:3 mode: Try actually playing the game for longer than an hour, and come back crying when your eyes feel like shriveled up prunes from trying to focus on those blurry/squashed graphics. That's the real issue here IMO.

I don't see how anyone without a widescreen display can have any fun with this port as it is now.

To provide support for the assertion that I'm a dumbfuck, I can't seem to find the screen menu at all. Help would be appreciated.

You're absolutely right. This isn't just an issue for people who tate or do something fancy. Anyone playing on a 4:3 display is going the have a lot of wasted screen real estate. If they're also playing on a small display than that just makes things 10 times worse.
RNGmaster wrote:To provide support for the assertion that I'm a dumbfuck, I can't seem to find the screen menu at all. Help would be appreciated.
Menu > Help and Settings (I think that's what it's called?) > Settings something (Beneath controls) > Screen Settings > Press A to get the menu and not the stupid controller image.

Something like that.

Someone made this convenient video:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DV0zxEmj ... r_embedded

Was able to play today (since i had a midterm yesterday and the good ol' veterans day holiday today gives me some free time) and I'm enjoying it alot.
Arrange 360 is really easy, but its a nice change of pace from the unforgiving arcade mode. Pretty much destroy a large enemy or a few smaller ones in quick succession and cancel most bullets on the screen to coins. As long as your shiki is activated during the stage, all bullets are the slower moving pink ones. Boss battles as long as you have your shiki on the enemy, all bullets are slow. Blue arrange seems to me that it plays just like arcade version, just with SLIGHTLY more bullet canceling from killing an enemy and an overall smoother flow of game chaining.Achievements seem pretty easy, as i only have 2 hidden ones left.

I can see the screen issue being a problem for some people, however i've never really been picky about that cause i have a huge crappy CRT. Gonna bring the game to a friends later and see how 2 player co-op is.

Pretty much as simplified as it gets for finding the screen settings:

Help & Options > Settings > Screen Settings > Pick the mode you want to adjust the setting for > Extra Display > Game Window > More Settings

The reason lack of 4:3 support is such an issue is partly because we don't know if this is how Cave games will be ported in the future. Are we going to be playing DFK and the Pink Pork Pack in a tiny box..? Who knows - Cave are making weird decisions lately (slowdown removal from US Deathsmiles, no 4:3 in DS2... an adventure game...).

If you're not a fan of their arcade output why would you be buying their games - therefore, if you do buy their games, you want the arcade experience replicated as much as possible. Removing 4:3 support is so nuts it doesn't make any sense. It's probably more effort to remove it than include it.

Also, the size of the screen makes a difference when playing either for survival or score. If you happen to own a massive tv and it's not a problem - lucky you, it doesn't take away from the fact that it's dumb. There is a lot of love for Cave games, and seeing the company screwing up it's own ports is mildly irritating!

What I don't understand is that fact that everyone is expecting arcade perfect everything.
People who have never played the arcade game in itself, is not going to know the difference.

No, they're just going to wonder why the hell they have such a tiny-ass playing field on their SDTVs.

Seriously, this really isn't a "snobby" issue. It's a VERY, VERY basic feature that somehow got overlooked and really downs the quality of the game.
