Sorry to go slightly off-topic but the problem with the lack of 4:3 mode is the same thing I experience with EspII. I'm now hoping that I'm missing an option in EspII! Anyone confirm that it has a 4:3 mode as playing it in 16:9 suuuuuuuuuuuuucks.

IIRC, I had to set my 360's resolution to 640x480 in order to enjoy full screen TATE

they have written Tuneki Ikeda instead of TSuneki Ikeda, was that also in the original PCB?
Have checked it, it's also Tuneki on the original one.

If you're playing on a 16:9 screen, you'll have no issues.

Thanks, that settles it.
Anyway, for those who are hoping for a patch... I don't know how often other companies release patches for XBLA games, but I remember Capcom moaning all the time about how difficult and expensive it was to release a patch for SSF2THDR, because of microsoft's rules for patches and stuff.

5pb could tell about it since their DOJ patch hasn't been released yet.

On my 4:3 monitor, I had set the resolution to 1920*1080 and used 3x zoom. I still have maybe 5-10% of the screen being covered by wallpaper, but I've found it playable so far...

I just had a funny thought...

Since this game released - all 12 or so hours, this thread has been pretty much all about 3:4 monitor issues.
Everyone and his dog wrote:...black bars... ...sucks... ...patch...
See? Even the dog's bitching.
It kinda reminds me of the ever-present region lock issue. Some the more elitist responses to that has been along the lines of "there's no problem - just buy a J360".

One could - if one had the newest tech in flamesuits - use the same argument here. Just buy a widescreen crt tv - there's no problem.

Anyway, it just made me smile - don't be offended

Because you don't have the room or money for a cab doesn't mean there isn't an issue.

I have a widescreen CRT, with the Xbox set to widescreen and there are borders top/bottom, as per DS2X.

Even in tate? Wow, something really weird is going on then... :?

Edit... Nevermind the above... I should read or sleep :|

That's REALLY weird... I'm one of the region lock whiners, so I don't know about Deathsmiles IIX

I had a laugh about the url for Daifukkatsu being http://www.cave.co.jp/gameonline/Xbox360/daifukkatu/ - without an s in daifukkatsu and EOJ let me know that it is common to leave out the s - for some reason I don't remember

This is what my monitor can display with full stretch + maxed out chassis remote controls without touching the controls on the chassis (I really don't want to):

I've added red borders to the (rather crappy) picture so you can see how much screen real estate is unused.

And a question to Elixir or whoever got this with Japanese Live! points: Does the Japanese XBLA display the original Logo on the title screen, or this new GUWANGE text? I tried playing my EU bought release using my Japanese account, but I don't get the original logo anyway.

Cave's been making 4:3 tate games for how long?

Don't the japanese players have tate setups at home?

Yep. Borders top/bottom in yoko, borders left/right in tate.

つ or ツ can be romanized either as tu or tsu. Neither is incorrect, though tsu is certainly more common.

I'd simply flip my widescreen monitor, but I'm just not sure it can take it.

I think it's hysterical the copy of Guwange I *didn't* pay for has better functionality in this regard. What a world.

Is it an HD CRT? If you're using SD and you set the system to widescreen, it doesn't change the display for the game.

Looks like in arranged mode: All the bullets that your shiki has touched turn to gold when an enemy is destroyed, regardless if the bullet is still being slowed down (it changes to a new color). So, you can collect a lot more coins.

Oddly enough, my US 360 is broke right now so I won't have to worry about the tate drama for a couple weeks or so. My JPN 360 is fine, but I'd rather save my JPN points for Japan-only stuff since those points are more expensive and harder for me to obtain.

So I guess I'll "wait and see" for now.

No, it's an SD CRT via RGB scart. Guwange and DSIIX are the only games in my 360 collection that have this problem.

just log in on your US profile on the JPN system and buy it, will work fine, games get tied to your account so to play it again on the US system you'd just re-download it while logged in with that profile.

How can they mess up something so simple on an 11-year-old game? Cripes.

Oh well. Are the arrange modes actually good? Guwange is already a pretty weird game....

The same way all those Digital Eclipse ports of native-tate arcade games on Live Arcade have absolutely no tate options at all. See the arcade Contra games, Time Pilot, etc.

Just to add to the moaning - the local Leaderboards only display the scores of the current gamertag that's signed-in. No gamertag is shown for each score, yet it is in the online Leaderboards. Sloppy. I'm not bothered about not being able to enter initials, but to not have the gamertag shown next to each local score is just fucking dumb.
